It's mostly cosmetic. Dobermans and Boxers get their ears and tails cropped. There are medical benefits too, but that's usually not the case

One of my boys looks just like that. Ears mutilated by previous owners. He gets ear infections all the time..

It's not exactly nonsense. Flappy ears are more prone to trapping moisture which causes infections. I don't think cropping is the 1/2

Answer though. You can easily just wipe out the moisture to prevent the infection after they've been in water.

My pit has floppy ears and she gets infections frequently if we don't wipe out her ears every few days. :(

Also depends on breed. Cockers are predisposed to eat infections. Had one require ear stints to improve drainage. He eventually went deaf
