Samurai Champloo (2004)

Two samurai, and a girl team up to find the samurai that smells of sunflowers. Yep, the plot is pretty straight forward, but what makes the show great, is its character interactions, beautifully animated fight scenes, and its humor and hiphop/beatbox soundtrack.

FLCL (2000)

Or Fooly Cooly as some like to call it. This is your show if you're into ridiculous bullshit. I'm telling you, its awesome. And one of my absolute favourites. It's a story about growing up, with some over the top fight scenes, Alien chicks, robots and kickass soundtrack from the pillows. Oh, and did i mention its only 6 episodes long? So go watch it!

Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)

I've seen many list's that recommend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood over the original, usually because of its superior animation quality, but i'm gonna recommend you watch the original first and THEN see brotherhood. Why? Because the 2003 version has an original(and quite good) ending, and after that, you can see how the manga did it, with brotherhood. Also my favourite series of all time, so please give it a try if you havent.

Steins;Gate (2011)

Tutturuu! Probably the best time travel anime that exists at the moment. Even though the plot may seem like the pretty basic "oops fucked with time, now i gotta fix things" scenario, the way its executed and the character interactions make the show, so naturally you should watch it.

Berserk (1997)

Story about Guts and his time fighting alongside the band of the hawk.
One of the manliest and goriest anime you will find, with great story and action. And if you've seen it id recommend reading the manga. It's great.

Bakuman. (2010)

Story about friends, making manga, deadlines, editors, and romance. Got your interest yet? This is a pretty heartfelt story about chasing your dreams, and its 3 seasons long (around 75 episodes) so if you're looking for a quality show with bit of an longer runtime, this is the show for you.

Welcome To The N.H.K. (2006)

Feeling insecure and awkward around people? Then im guessing this show is kinda like made for us imgurians, am i right?! So yeah 24 episodes of dealing with social anxiety, get ready for some hilarity!
Also, this show leaves you with that special feeling of being dead inside. So it must be great.

Cowboy Bebop (1998)

Descriped with one word, Cowboy Bebop is cool. It's also one of those anime that is kind of a notch in your belt if you've seen it, if at all you're into anime. An epic space adventure with some awesome directing, from Watanabe, the guy who also did Samurai Champloo.

Great Teacher Onizuka (1999)

My comedic relief on this list, and i consider GTO to be one of the best comedies that anime has to offer. The show follows Onizuka, a former biker gang leader becoming a teacher, and his class of mischievous students. The art may seem bit outdated at times but don't let it discourage you from givin it a go.

Kids On The Slope (2012)

Story about friendship, jazz, love, and growing up in the 1960's.
Kids On The Slope is one of the shows that got me teared up at the end. Excellent animation and soundtrack. So watch it. if you're into that sorta thang.

Barakamon (2014)

Young calligrapher gets exiled to an island after loosing his cool, when a veteran labels his work as unoriginal. At the island as he's doing some self reflecting, the protagonist befriends some of the local kids, and learns some important life lessons. A heartwarming pace changer, in case you're in a need of one.

Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion (2006)

Story about an exiled prince lelouch trying to climb back to the top. It's has psychological warfare(quite literally), super powers, mechs and oh did i mention, a school setting? what else do you need?

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995)

You should watch this, just so you can say you've watched it. It's an classic and a pretty stellar mech anime, but the reason i left Neon Genesis for latter on the list because of it's controversial ending, that might be better enjoyed drunk.

Yu Yu Hakusho (1992)

If you enjoy Hunter x Hunter, you'll enjoy this. Togashi's first anime adaptation of his shounen manga, is one of the more longer ones on this list, and if you're new to anime, i wouldn't necessarily recommend this one for you. But if you're a bit more versed, it's a classic, and a must watch.

The Bio Booster Armor Tax

So if you're in to 80's anime, i would highly recommend The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor from 1989. It's pretty ridiculous, but oh so good.

+1 just for flcl alone. Never see it on any list, and my personal favorite

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So many good ones here I'm very surprised to not see Trigun!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Trigun is good, it is a very fun series. Lighthearted at first, then more feels down the line.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A great primer series is Macross (aka Robotech).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FLCL getting 2 more seasons

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, been excited since it was announced : )

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That cowboys bebop .gif is from the movie not the series itself.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cowboy Bebop stuck to me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

YYH is pure gold.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

GTO gets so little recognition on these lists. I loved it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Speaking of classic why does no one talk up baki. I dont think ive seen him on a list

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

rewatching season 2 as I comment. Amazingly brutal. I love that show.

9 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Can't say it enough, if you're a hikikomori or general shut in, don't watch Welcome to the NHK. It is too depressing.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

GTO is so good

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

GTO! fuck yes! goddamn german suplex and shit.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually one of these that the whole list isn't just generic Shonen? Oh my. Upvotes for you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a reason why imgur is the place to share these lists? I like anime and these lists, but I feel there should be other sites for this

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I mean, there's almost certainly a subreddit for this

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Barakamon is my favorite anime/manga of all time. Such a great story.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Respect for anyone with steins;gate in their top 10. Superb list OP.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

i tried to watch it but found it dull and quit a few episodes in. what was i missing?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch it, i stopped watching it once, then came back because i was bored and saw everything, it is one of my favourite anime so far.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

it starts pretty slow. at first it's just daily shenanigans but then it turns into a scifi thriller/drama.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing. The plot doesn't kick in until episode 12. After that it gets really good.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it definetly deserves its place among the best

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It definetely does. While I love many anime, conpared to Steins:Gate they all feel like childsplay, nothing reaches the depth of Steins:Gate

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I cried. A lot.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok i want to know what some people call FLCL if the dont say Fooly Cooly. They even say that in the show so what else could it be called?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Literally F L C L - Eff, ell, see, ell

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fooly Cooly sounds better in my opinion.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Brotherhood is the original story. The first adaptation was an offshoot, which frankly made little sense, and pales in comparison to the manga

Also in Brotherhood the plot is resolved and makes sense

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The first fma is just badly written. Brotherhood is beyond being a typical shounen. It's exemplary

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes i am compleatly aware, but i've seen both of these anime when they were airing, and i find the original ending very compelling too

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It wasn't the animation that made me like brotherhood instead i just found the original to be slow and at some times aimless so i got bored.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The ending of the first anime felt very rushed and didn't resolve anything

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To me the ending to the original series felt like they realized that they only had two episodes to go and had to wrap shit up quickly.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Being hyper critical of FMA 2003 has become so trendy since Brotherhood came about. Personally, FMA 2003 is my favourite series ever too! :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

@ShonaSaurus yeah agreed, i think its a bit unfair to to compare the two

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

its not trendy, its just objective. fma2003 is only good because its based of the mythos of the true story.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Monster.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Protip: read the manga, don't watch the anime. The anime is 100% accurate to the manga, but it's much slower paced as a result of the medium

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thoroughly enjoyed the anime.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same, but the manga is 1000% better.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then perhaps "don't watch the anime" is not the appropriate comment.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Upvote for Cowboy Bebop, G.T.O., and FLCL...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They are making a new season of FLCL

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know...I am somewhat excited, yet a bit cautious.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is supposed to have a new cast, so I am in the same boat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they do not at least get Kari Wahlgren back to voice Haruko, I will be very disappointed...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Code GayAss.... It nevers get old, xD

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 13

I'm pretty sure that gif isn't from the anime

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah I don't recognize those mechs and they didn't use CG that heavily. It might be from Akito though.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

WHAT DO YOU MRAN YOURE AT. SOUP?!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I MEAN IM AT SOUP!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

WHAT STORE ARE YOU IN!?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'M IN THE SOUP STORE!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WHY ARE YOU BUYING CLOTHES AT THE SOUP STORE?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a dated anime. I watched it for the first time recently and thought it was meh. Probably was awesome for it's time

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

The ending is what ties it together.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It was fun watching it while it aired because you got to talk about the train wreck happening on screen with others.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't think you know what "dated" means. Someone should really tell you

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Obviously not yourself then?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

.... I'm sorry did you try to on purpose for that to make no sense or are you just that bad at this?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

lol yup I'm bad at communicating with retards over the internet. By dated, I mean Geass does not compare to current day anime and feels old.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ever noticed how similar the plot is to Death Note if you ignore the vastly different style and setting?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're not a smart man are you?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Idunno, disgruntled teenage boy with a brilliant strategic mind is handed mind-control powers by a mysterious magical character, and
