Flying through NV when these guys show up.

Jun 26, 2015 12:58 AM

These guys just showed up.

Flying through NV and these guys showed up off our wing. Oh shit, shti, stih.

Um...

I think we took a wrong turn at Albuquerque.

Oh shit

Two more showed up.

Some more.

Oh..

...yeah. We're supposed to be here. ;)

F-16 comming in.

HOLY COW

That's a big bird! Took forever!

B-52

We still use these antiques. There's not too many left in the world. Check out the "bone-yard" on Google. We leave them out there so the Russians (and the rest of the world) can see that they're dismantled. (they guillotine their wings off and chunk up the fuselages and leave them there to rot/rust as proof.)

We were... communicating.

Couldn't help myself with the reference. (Fuck off - I know it was an F-14 with a A-4E/F (or"Mig-28") in the movie)

This is the F-15. My 2nd favorite AC in the world. Soon to be replaced by the F-35.

Dropping F-BOMBS....

I couldn't honestly tell you if it was this pilot or the next one up, but we hit some pretty hard turbulence and the boom missed his windscreen by about 30ft (9 meters). Just imagine the speed we're traveling, and the altitude, and the skill it takes to line up *two* aircraft within 50-100 feet of each other and hold that distance and speed for about 5-10 minutes. My hat's off to you, MSgt Boom Operator for keeping your shit straight (and in your pants!)

An F-22

And this little "humming bird" came to the feeder as well.

Solid as rock

Watching the difference between the two (the F-15 and the F-22) was night and day. This AC stayed right in tune during the whole refueling. Every bump and rock and roll we hit, that thing stayed *RIGHT THERE!* On point. Advances in computers fly by wire have come so far!

F-22 just off the wing.

This is in the top 10 of my favorite pictures that I've personally taken.

Whatcha lookin at?

Oh... Not me. Still. Cool picture.

My head

Probably the only pic you bastards will ever see of me. It's cramped down in the pit. I'm to the left of the operator, he's the guy with balls of titanium offloading thousands of gallons (or liters. At this point, there's no real reason to be specific) of fuel to 1q4Z!fuckX millions of dollar$ (or ₤'s, again, at this point, no reasonable difference...) worth of AC.

Inside.

THIS IS SPARTA! Well, it's actually better than the usual spartan conditions because they knew they had passengers, so they put the seats out and MX didn't shit in the doorway...

All the Glory!

Glory shot!

Not all pictures where from my camera. I was not in the AC that refueled the B-52 or F-16s . I *cough* chose the plane that had the F-22s and F-15s (for... reasons. :) ...) These are from about two years ago - but: 1. I deleted my FB account almost two years ago (only two pics made it up) and 2, I was still up in the air about security risks/classifications/etc. I was given the greenlight and found a new medium to post on. Enjoy!

Ok I hate these too, but FP Edit:
They were F-5's, not A-4's in Top Gun
No, I'm *not* a boom operator, but I've logged over 10,000 hours flying my desk with zero mishaps.
I'm still not entirely convinced that they're not trying to do away with the F-15s, based on what I've seen and heard, but I can't say much more on that subject.
Lastly, A-10 is my favorite AC.
(and "No," to the one person who asked, I will not show you my other 9 favorite pics, they're for me... for reasons... when I deploy...)

Cat Tax!

My 12 y/o, Chevy and my wife's 13 y/o, Diva. A rare moment of "truce" was called when the food was refilled...

As someone who's currently waiting to get into the Canadian Air Force: I'm all boners right now. And a little jealous of all yer shiny ACs.

MX will shit wherever they want !

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The boneyard actually preserves the planes so that they don't rust due to no humidity and high heat. Source its hot here.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I worked on the B-52s for 3 years...they are most certainly being flown... and that is not the purpose of the boneyard...wtf?!?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The BUFF certainly isnt an antiques, and those booms come closer than the 30ft you were so worried about all the time, chill out.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Won't the F-35 replace the F-16 and F-18? The F-22 is more like F-15 replacement material in my eyes. Just asking.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

F-35 is meant to replace the 16 and 18, yes. It'll take quite a while though, so you can expect to see all of them for a while. Nothing

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DANGER ZONE INTENSIFIES.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cool picks, but the F-15 is being replaced by the 22 not the 35. 35 is replacing the 16 10's (maybe), the old 18's, and the harrier.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A Chairforce vet? 10000 desk hours without a fuckup? Bullshit. Signed, Navy Corpsman.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure the MiG-28s in Top Gun were F-5s, not A-4s...still, you have an awesome job and I am so jelly.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Love seeing the Aggressor squadrons and their commie-style paint jobs. Red Flag?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Definitely at the Nevada training range; not necessarily a Red Flag. They fly all the time. Sauce: live in Vegas, work at Nellis.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit shti stih

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

read NV and thought new vegas. i've been playing too much fallout

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those camo patterns, are those Aggressor squadrons?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(Given that you're in NV it makes sense I'm guessing)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct, the USAF Aggressors are all painted with FSU patterns. Flanker blue, lizard, desert, arctic, etc

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an F-16 Maintainer, and prior F-15 Maintainer, the F-15 is supposed to be replaced by the F-22, and the F-16 by the F-35.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The F-15 is not being replaced by the F-35A. The F-16 is.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure at least some of that is supposed to be classified. It's not cool of you to give our nations secrets away like that. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Nope

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The fact that the air force has flying stealth cats is NOT supposed to be public knowledge and yet you post it to imgur. NOT COOL. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Derp. Just got up, did not link "cats" with the feline animal. That was a fun one, upvote away!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Man I was so mad when I read your first comment almost missed the second. Good one!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I thought this was gonna be one of those Area 51 stories.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

My first thought, too

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Security Guards DO NOT LIKE HIM !!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or should I say, Camo dudes?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eww, put a NSFW tag when showing 2 planes having sex.

10 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 3

It would instantly be deleted if it was what I imagined it looked like.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They joined the mile high plug.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's not what the bone yard is for...

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

As a Tucson resident, cool to see others that know about our little gem.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, but the DMAFB boneyard and the reclamation center are right next to each other

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So the bone yard is not a gay club then?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately no...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the "cock-pit"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for facts. It's for long-term storage. The dry desert air prevents corrosion. They can and do reactivate planes from the boneyard.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Have been to the bone yard in March (did the tour organized by the Pima Air & Space Museum).

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its also where the 365 chopped up B-52Gs are, pursuant to the START treaty

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Those aren't there anymore. They were sold for scrap after Soviet satellite verification. The B-52s there now are for storage.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice to see my KC135's getting some love!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also, the max extension on the boom of a KC135 is ~30ft, imagine having a C5 (biggest airplane in the US fleet) that far from you in the air

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Boo. No A-10.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They were too busy delivering freedom. A-10s also dont need to refuel often as they use fuel efficient turbofans, just like airliners do.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Someone should do the Jurassic World pose with some F22 Raptors

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Lmao! Yes! Thank you !!!!!!!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lol, no problem

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sense front page with this image lol

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was genuinely surprised to see it hadn't been done.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find it amazing America still keeps B-52's in the air. Equally amazing are the Tu-95's the Russians use. Both are antique roadshows.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Those Tu-95s are so loud they can be detected by listening stations in the ocean. The US didn't realize what they were hearing at first.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The USAF just recalled a B-52 from the boneyard back into active service & plan to keep using the B-52 for another 50 years. Amazing planes.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I prefer the Tu-95, (contra-rotating-props FTW), but nothing shouts FREEDOM like a B-52 flying overhead.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've never been close to one, but I hear the Tu-95 is incredibly loud. :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You must be something special, for maintenance to not shit in your door. We don't do that for everyone

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

They must have just pissed in the door and said it was lube when asked about it.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

We tend to not give shit to people that actually do things. Services, finance, basically any personnel troops we shit on. Comm too sometimes

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Piss off the people that pay you, feed you, and keep you connected. You must be new in the military.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From avionics to comm...I'm slightly ashamed lol But they took our jets! And er jerbs!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cops made the cut, we have yall fooled! Lol.

As a SSgt in tactical comm, heading out on a KC-135 here shortly: a big F-you to you, pal.

Go ahead and forget about us in comm. But don't complain when we don't jump up to fix what you need fixed right then, bro.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Can't remeber anytime you did. Combat comm was pretty cool though

Combat comm is what I do.

10 years ago | Likes 1570 Dislikes 2

Same here, was thinking an ACA unit showed up to kick ass!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When i was 12 we flew down to Disney land and I could see f-14's out the window. I thought it was sweet.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Once I saw that it wasn't a commercial flight I went from "Oooh interesting!" to "Meh." pretty quick. This is just routine.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My first reaction was, "WHAT DID YOU DO?"

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I actually wouldn't have been that surprised. Nevada is basically all air force training ground.

10 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

The aircraft that are painted in the cool color schemes are aggressors, or "enemy" aircraft to fight against

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea, between Fallon's airbase and Travis by Vegas.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

We think alike.

Great minds usually do...or so the saying goes

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but there was no A-10.. :(

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do they even have in-flight refuelling capability?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, they don't. (Can't figure out how to edit on mobile)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

it is literally a flying gun with wings, not easy to do much with that

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes they do. There are countless youtube videos that demonstrate this.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So sexy we needed to invent a special type of sunglasses to handle looking at them

10 years ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 0

I wish I can wear sunglasses... But they hide the only good thing about my face (my eyes), and focus the worst thing (my big ass nose. xP)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actors love aircrafts.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My favorite aircraft was retired. It makes me very sad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Blackbird?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's an impressive once, but no. It was the F-14 Tomcat.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talked to some Air Force technicians at the airshow near my town, they said the Tomcat was retired because it was too high maintenance. Sad.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's exactly what I heard. I guess it was due to the swing wings. More moving parts means more to break and more to maintain.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

impressive even today, imo, and especially for when it was made

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are a couple of them sitting in a small park not too far from where I live. Still impressive to look at.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

F-15s and F-22s look pretty neat but nothing can beat a Sukhoi Su-27 in a beauty contest.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Su-47 is my favorite, love the forward swept wings

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SR-71 for me. I know it's not a comparable aircraft, but what a beaut

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure who down-voted you, that plane's badass

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I prefer the workers look of the MiG-21. I actually can't think of any bad looking military aircraft.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I actually agree, with one exception. Never really liked the hot-dogs-with-wings look of the F-8...lol

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well we almost got this http://imgur.com/2jAMfeu instead of the F-35.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hah, I work at a Naval Air Station; I see them all day, every day. Including those X-47b's and F-35's.
