Last few panels unclear. She kidnapped a former first lady?

Oh it's already the time of the year when we start reposting all the "rejected princesses" serie?

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

It, ah...it did. I may be crying a little now, at the end of it. That's a hell of a story.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

She got a song named after her

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh cool Woody Guthrie wrote a song about her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEmOalZOyjU

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like Sniper Wolf. Only you know, real.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Hate to be the bearer, but every soviet sniper account is wildly embellished by their press. Same as Zaitsev. For propaganda purposes.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 6

Funny thing about the Germans. They were fanatics about keeping records, even the work and deathcamp records that would serve as 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

evidence in later warcrime trials. Granted Russian wartime propaganda inflates; however, the Germans recorded her feats as well. 2/2

The world will always love you for all time to come,. For three hundred Nazis fell by your gun. ????

That was so incredibly told. Thank you

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Simo Hayha's still cooler.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All you ppl asking for a Netflix documentary... They did her story on drunk history, pretty accurate

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

LOVE Drunk History, and for some reason Derek Waters is my fetish.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love drunk history, such a great show. I showed it to my dad (he use to read me history books when I was a kid) he really enjoyed it too.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

To clarify the books he read were books his great uncle wrote and were obscure stories of people in history. Kind of like drunk history.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of these wartime hero's, snipers and airplane/tank aces are propaganda inflations. The # of kills is always incredibly dubious.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

Battle for Sevastopol, starring Yulia Peresild, is a fantastic movie about her. I highly recommend it.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

I wonder, was she the inspiration behind Ana in Overwatch?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

*clicks fingers* connections

I had the same thought.

Why was the man so pissed in the end, was she force to stay there ?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Its the soviet union m8; they're a bit controlling when it comes to state stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What I was thinking, more of we will keep you protected, if want it or not, plus a Assassin killing her would hurt moral

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

why the hell did I get a -1 for a question haha

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know, those last few panels are unclear.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

After the war someone should have introduced her to the White Death just to see what they thought of each other.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

While she was good, the White Death was amazing. I wonder if there are any similar comics or documentaries about him.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I suppose with his heroics, injury and recovery they could make a real 'Darkest Hour' Oscar bait film about him

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actual simulation (based on T-9 predictive scenario extrapolation) of what would happen if they had met: v

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Shit! I'd see this in theaters! What an amazing woman! And yet, I'd not heard her name...thanks @OP :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well she was on an episode of drunk history, that's kinda like a documentary

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Drunk History.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think what is essentially unsourced Soviet propaganda should be looked at in context.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 8

And what context should that be?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

3) lives, territory and equipment on a mind boggling scale - means that tales of her exploits are likely highly embellished.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The Soviet Union DID do that, but we know about the fakes. People who had their feats exaggerated, or even just made up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, not to suggest that an agenda is being pushed here, but she is drawn as a remarkably plump woman for a sniper on the front lines.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is something a Nazi would say

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2) she became a poster child for Soviet resistance - at a time when the war was not going terribly well for the Soviets who had already lost

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1) While it is reasonable to believe that Lyudmila Pavlichenko did indeed serve as a successful sniper on the Eastern front, the fact that

Always upvote strong women

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 17

I'm sure you mean "strong people", since gender shouldn't color your support of something.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's better than the female role models around now. There are few of the same quality as the women mentioned above.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 11

I actually agree. Miley Cyrus and Amber Rose should never be considered role-models for anything and yet they are anyways.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well who else is there? The strongest role models for women are mostly spoiled rich people.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Weird form of world view. Strange.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

To you perhaps, I respect those who fight for their nations and for those who seek to help others. The common role model now is often a ->

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

vain celebrity.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

What do you mean "had enough"? What'd she do?

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Yeah it reads like the author kind of gave up a few panels before the end.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

These last frames sounded a bit like american propaganda to me. "Oh yeah and don't forget Russia's bad!!"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

Not saying Russia's great or that people had a lot of freedom at the time (and now) but still...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It looked like they had some official dude there to transcribe the meeting and they ditched him so they could talk freely!

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yeah I don't understand the last couple frames at all...

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

well, she was with Eleanor Roosevelt

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Just because I'm not keen on the artstyle here's Pavlichenko un-tumblrized: https://imgur.c">/9y7nhNh">https://imgur.com/9y7nhNh /JGD4cMk

8 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 8

The comic makes her look positively fat compared to the photographs. Even in photos of her more recently she is not as chubby as the drawing

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

This is from Rejected Princesses. They do everything in a Disney Style.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

But Didney is filled with skinny bitches

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Just to point it out more, for the sake of pointing it out. The soviet union, the country this woman fought for. Was just as bad if notworse

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 8

The idiot has spoken

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

I didn't say anything tho

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Than Nazi Germany.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

The USSR was full of corrupt war criminals, but nowhere near on the level of institutional racism and genocide as Nazi Germany.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well yes Germany wanted to kill off all of eastern Europe and had large plans for europe. USSR was still genocidal and raceist towards jews.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Poles. Ukraininas. Pretty much everyone in eastern europe was in a lesser class than the avrage Russian worker. Not that they were well off.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Racist yes, conducted the industrial mass murder of them no.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No they conducted mass genocide for fun on their spare time. Read into the Ukrainian man made famine.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's still not putting 12 million people in camps, conducting cruel human experiments on them, and gassing them en masse.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aren't they making a Hollywood movie about her?

8 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 7

Already did. But it's make role casted. Movie is "Enemy at the gates"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 23

You can just say movie

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 24

Why did this get downvoted?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Because people don’t understand that it’s an Archer reference

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Not if he's referring to the Hollywood studio system, rather than foreign, indie, or both.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It’s an Archer reference!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 Do one on on "The white Death" Simo Häyhä next.

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 6

White Death wasn't a lady, so it's not "empowering" and doesn't get those "empowerment" upvotes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These are girls only, rejected princesses is what it's called

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

https://youtu.be/s43yLMgXXOU To listen to while you read the Badass of the Week article.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here you go, similar approach. http://www.badassoftheweek.com/hayha.html

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not a lady, they only do ladies

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

hm, kinda sexist.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 40

It's called "Rejected Princesses." Disney isn't going to add Lady Death to their roster any time soon.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Not like they add real actual people ever really.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Pocahontas was real. Hua Mulan may or may not have been.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sexism would be denying male accomplishments, not choosing to make your comic about women. Different pieces of media have different goals.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 10

Hey cheers I'll drink to that.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

This is a much nicer reply (and accurate) than the one that sprang to my mind. Which was simply: moron

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Borderlands 2 immortalized her as the best sniper rifle in the game.

8 years ago | Likes 2103 Dislikes 16

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally just had this sniper drop for me today! It's awesome and helped me get past the Bunker quest easily

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And she did all that without a single drop of rum. Also little formal combat sniper training, aside from "on the job".

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Upvote the sauce.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

God, that fuckin sniper

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The female sniper in "Enemy at the Gates" is named after her.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pimpernel intensifies

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Borderlands are superb games. So enjoyable.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

There was a damn good rifle named after her in Destiny, as well.

8 years ago | Likes 514 Dislikes 5

YOOOO THAT’S WHERE IT’S FROM

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Lyudmila-D. Not my favorite gun, but it hit like a train and kicked like a mule.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Really? There are so many things going on in BL2 I didn't notice

8 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 1

Often, the games, movies and tales we find most ridiculous are the ones with the most meaning behind them.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Roland's name was a hint to his eventual fate. Warren Zevon song

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

It used to be called the white death in some versions of the game and it can be obtained by farming Gettle in The Dust

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The white death is Simo Häya, a finnish soldier of the Winter War

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Depends on region, its either White Death (Simo Hayha), Lyuda Mankiller (Lyudmilla) or Maxim (Maxim Bryskin & Maxim Passar)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Which was originally called 'White Death' after Simo Häyhä.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

No, there are two sniper rifles, they appear on different consoles from the same enemy.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Sane weapon though. If had a differ name on the PS3 version for some reason.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bad, I was wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are the same rifle just different names depending on console or what patch.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It was called White Death on all platforms. Then a patch changed it to Lyuda on PC and PS3.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which one?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Lyudmila This one. Was apparently "white death" originally, who happens to be another famous sniper.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well now I've gotta spend 4 hours farming this

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Good luck, just don't be on 360 or you won't find it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got the white death on 360 way back when

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"best" not really but yes, great tribute. after all it has one of the highest rates of fire.

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 4

So to clarify, you're saying it isn't the best sniper in the world, it's just a tribute?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

The Lyudmila is one of the best sniper rifles in BL2, probly top 3 at *worst* and is fairly easy to use and acquire. Fair tribute, IMO.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bee + that bird flying pattern thing smg is op

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sandhawk, yeah, it's OP.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Combine it with the Bee shield, and when all three shots landed it could eviscerate bosses in seconds. Still preferred skullmasher at >

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Medium ranges. If aimed correctly, though, it can mow down hoards of enemies, like in the bandit camp in the dam.
