For those that don't know Amontillado is a particular type of Sherry, which itself is an aromatized and fortified Spanish wine.

I always upvote Cask of Amontillado memes.

The thousand of injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.

In middle achool our class was separated into groups and given short stories to write on. Some were visibly upset by how much I enjoyed this

I love the Ray Bradbury short where they destroy all fiction, so a guy builds a house of horrors to off the architect's of the destruction
By being killed off by the fictional characters they destroyed. Guess how he offs the last one? Oh yeah!

Do you happen to have its name?
Usher II. Martian chronicles.
sheblindedmewithscience
The one in "The Martian Chronicles?" Or was is published separately too?
Separately. Maybe illustrated man? Or one for the road?
I lied. It is usher II and it is the Martian chronicles. Sorry.
Haha. I just read it recently! I love Illustrated Man too. He's such a creative writer.
My personal favorite. Even above asimov and Tolkien. And yes I know that is a sin. I bring shame on my house.
No harm in having a favorite! Sometimes a favorite doesn't always have to do with being considered "the best" by critics, but more about 1/

Edgar Allen Poe's short story. Dude gets another dude he doesn't like to come over and lures him downstairs with the promise of a cask 1/
/2 of Amontillado (a wine? I think) and instead seals the wall behind him to die a horrible death
Deonan
Thank you!

In Fallout 4, a skeleton hidden behind a wall in an underground tunnel holds an Amontillado bottle. The label reads MONTRESSOR - P. Edgar
Their devs have a sense of humor lol

I posted a screenshot of that the day i found it, nobody got the reference. I was sad.
Dragonfury is correct: A Cask of Amontillado. It's one of the few Edgar Allen Poe short stories that doesn't invoke the supernatural.
Thanks. One could argue that the supernatural isn't truly invoked in almost all, but instead manifests as such through the lens of madness
The read-between-the-lines, non-supernatural explanation of the Fall of the House of Usher is what makes it true horror.
Dammit now I'm gonna have to reread that again, I'm blanking on the story. Haven't read poe since I was like...15 maybe?
At first glance, it's a fairly generic haunted house story. The true evil, realized by the narrator at the end, is never explicitly stated.
