i wasnt a true alcoholic, but when i would drink, at least 2 days a week, i would drink like bukowski, and set my life on fire and destroy all relationships i had, been stone sober for almost a month now, and i want to punch a brick wall with my fists

It may have just gotten worse. I went from every other weekend to every weekend to every night until I passed out. Sober 7 years now. GFY.

Been sober for the same time now. Don't want to punch a wall, didn't destroy relationships when drunk. Get help!

Guys he knows he was an alcoholic. Stop tearing him down. @OP good job man! Keep at it, consider joining a local group. We all got your back

Well first step to solving a problem is identifying it, that's done. Good luck and courage for next step.

Binge-drinking is very much a form of 'true alcoholism'. It's something we need more awareness of, as it can be extremely destructive.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the 'white knuckled' phase. It will pass. One day at a time, man!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sound like a "Jekyll and Hyde" drunk. There's terms for different personalities. Good for you, stay strong. But I'm not a quitter!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

go punch a brick wall with your fists then. better than drinking.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Not if you drink in moderation

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Good for you. Keep it up. Get a punching bag or go to a gym to redirect strong emotions.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Better yet, go to an AA meeting.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for you, I did this this summer. It definitely helps

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From experience, find yourself a group. I decided against AA but I still went to a few meetings. Don't do it alone, you need a support

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

system. Friends, family, random strangers who bring you donuts, all are good.

Alcoholism: addiction to alcoholic liquor or the mental illness and compulsive behavior resulting from alcohol dependency.

I've quit drinking to get in shape too and "my friends" would really try to push the drinks. It was like a game to them.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Uggghhh. Been sober 3 years and my friends boyfriend kept trying to hand me drinks at a wedding like it was funny. Little shit.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The punching feeling goes away, I was in a very similar situation, and after getting black out drunk and ruining the best friendship 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've ever had, I haven't touched alcohol. The first few months where the hardest, and I doubt I'll ever be able to repair anything of 2/3?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The friendship I had, I'm doing the best to become the person I was, the person he thought I was before all of that. You can do it too 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im not ready to get sober yet, but I'm getting close

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I drink way more than that, but recently quit for a month. It was almost effortless and I had to remember to start drinking again.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Almost a year for me. Started as eh I should probably cut down. As time passed I realized I was on a pretty bad path.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ever heard of a dry drunk?Try AA-only requirement to go to a meeting is a desire to quit drinking. You don't have to say you're alcoholic.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used to drink every night and then I got with my gf and it went down to couple nights a week. It's better but I'm still drinking at 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

least 6-8 beers though when I do. My gf would like to see me completely stop but it's hard for me to imagine my life without beer. 2/3

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Guess I should get my shit together too and join you in this endeavor. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Its possible :) but you gotta quit for you, your the only one youll always have yknow

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did it once before for a few months and felt great...then I got depressed again and it all went out the window.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I drink maybe once a month, maybe less. But when I do, It's to get druuuuuuunk

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe if we treated alcoholism as a disease and not a criminal label people suffering from it would be more inclined to call themselves that

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what's good about 12 Step. No judgement, because everyone there is there for the same reasons.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Drank every day for the last 15 years. 97 days without a drink now. Never thought I'd say it, but AA actually works. Give it go

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

If anything else, you meet people and realize you're not alone. Lots of people have been through the same shit.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Through the strength and fellowship of the program I'm sober now. If I'm still sober on Nov. 1 it'll be 30 yrs. & I think I'm gonna make it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really one of the most amazing organizations of all time. Think of the difference that one man made.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Two men, bruh...

Instructions unclear, now having sex with op's mom while punching drunk brick wall.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

Man, last time I heard a mom joke I fell off my dinosaur

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Instructions unclear, balls deep in you whilst punching op's drunk mom

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You leave op's mom alone, his mother-wife is of the table.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm currently struggling with the same. I only drank once this weekend! I knew it was a problem when the weekend hit and it was a strong 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Urge to drink. Like, I was stressed that I knew I couldn't. I caved and got an 8 pack, but I isolated myself so I wouldn't have the 2/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good luck. I'm hoping to have a dry weekend this coming weekend.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Opportunity to ruin anything. I've already done a lot of damage. Maybe an alcoholic, but not DSM 5 level. Just binge and abuse.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was only a one or two night a week drinker. I fucked my entire life up by 23. Been sober over 3 years now. It can be boring, but it's (1)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Better than destroying relationships, your dignity and waking up in jail a few times having no idea how you got there. For some reason (2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Once you get in trouble it just keeps happening. Fight the good fight, hit a meeting and it'll hit you just how similar your stories are. ??

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TIL the average person can deduce from minimal to no data whether a random stranger on the internet is an alcoholic.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I disagree. Only the alcoholic knows if (s)he is an alcoholic. It's nobody else's business!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alcohol most certainly isn't for everyone. Everyone has those friends that turn into fucking disasters when drunk. I don't get it, I just

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It can bring out a lot of anger and self destructive tendencies in many. And dependency is brutal, physically and mentally.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

become way more social and outgoing, never violent or mean.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Same

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pros/Cons. The fact I can compose myself regardless of amount or frequency lead to drinking WAY too much WAY too often personally.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You have issues, man. If not drinking makes you want to punch a brick wall you probably were an alcoholic.

8 years ago | Likes 455 Dislikes 48

What OP meant by "true" (I think), is that he's not been in weeks-long binges. But that's not "true", it's "about to die" alcoholism.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Every alcoholism is "true", binge drinking or not.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Alcoholic here. You are an alcoholic. Simple equation; alcohol = makes you do bad/stupid shit = alcoholism. Great job on sobriety!!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

I mean, you're just an absolute fucking waffle so what do you know?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm kidding, but I love the name xD

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No worries. I get that a lot. Both your comments.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No shit Doctor Phil. Don't make it an issue if some people still know how to fucking enjoy their life. Not enjoying it makes you punch things

That's called a joke mate, but just like good food, a nice house or international travelling. Not everybody is lucky to get it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Most people are too busy spreading their ignorance all over the internet, just like me, I guess. "If you can't have fun w/o drinking let me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Oh and I forgot to mention a proper education xD

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Tell you real quick how much of a problem you have and how much better than you I am." xD really just teasing I don't give a shit about any

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

My god dude. Five replies to me. Pls stop.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Of this. Just wanted to see the world burn real quick. Or hear someone repeat a lame joke about autism. Soo creative :*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Drinking twice a week? And this is the top comment?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 15

Your reading comprehension is not the best if that's all you got out of it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

You're not an alcoholic drinking twice a week no matter how much you drink in those two days. Alcoholics have a physical dependency.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Do I need to throw a fucking dictionary at you?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fuck are you talking about. You said he was probably an alcoholic. He said he only used to drink twice a week.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I think I understand. You're trying to say because it effects his life at all that makes him an alcoholic. Well you're an idiot. Go /1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

read what alcoholism is because you clearly don't know. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholism /2
