Indians in india vs. indians abroad

Apr 20, 2017 4:40 PM

So people are racist everywhere, this is quite the development

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I've been to India. It beats the USA in the 50s. So. Fucking. Racist.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 5

As a 2nd generation immigrant I can attest to this.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indian guy at work used to throw down with the rednecks w/ pure verbal roastings that left only scorched earth behind (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I used to think he was an anomaly until I saw "40 Year Old Virgin" and thought, "Shit...maybe MOST of them are like that." (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'm in the Midwest, if we're racist we're going to be racist, doesn't matter how light/dark. It's weird to me India cares what shade you are

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For all the shit America gets for racism, we're actually better than most.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

not to say we don't have our issues but overall we're on the right path.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, they were all racist comments... Did anyone think racism didn't exist in India?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

As an Indian, very few non-Indians know the true extent of the bigotry that exists in India

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

People lump Indians together as a group of generic brown people. Don't realize how many ways Indians have to discriminate against each other

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Is there anything more Racist that generalising 1.5 Billion people down to a single character.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

What if I tell you I'm indian and it's true?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Sometimes I forget that America isn't the only place with racism... anybody out of the country want me to send them a Pepsi?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My Indian friend says she makes sure to speak English in India so that she's treated a LOT better than locals.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Hell yeah. This works, can verify. Got offered jobs over other job seekers. People seem to yield more in conversations.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'll have to find it, but there was a map based on a poll along the lines of "would you be ok with neighbors of a different race" India 1/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

by far to most resistant to neighbors of a different ethnicity

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They came second after Jordan. I posted a link to the map in this thread.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

White people are actually the least racist as well as the least sexist. By FAR.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a VERY white girl, I've been stared at hard in India, but I've only encountered curiosity. Had a kid ask why Americans are red. :)

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Red?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We explained that most of us are usually kind of pink, but when we visit them (mid-90s, no AC) we're really hot so we turn red.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Lol imagine that, European settlers N America called the natives "Indians" and "Red", but actual Indians see us white folks as red. XD

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You must have been to the good parts lol, just make sure not to go down South if you ever go back

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We were in Andhra Pradesh, and everyone we met was lovely. I'd love to see the North sometime as well.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While in grad school we would teach the Nepal students how to speak with a southern drawl. It was hilarious.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Jeesus, this is so true.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I spent 6 years traveling and can say India is right up there when it comes to racism, same as Korea

9 years ago | Likes 252 Dislikes 4

As a white woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, I've been fetishized by Indian men & saw racism first-hand working at a Korean company.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget about those goddamned Dutch! *shakes fist*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife is Korean. I can totally agree.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I think China is worse, but I don't think it is racism. The rural people are so great, but it feels like the people in Urban area just /1

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Japan is pretty racist also. I learned my lesson when heading out of Tokyo.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Forget racism, urban Chinese discriminate against rural Chinese, and not just the mild stereotyping US East Coasters do of Midwesterners.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But chinese might hire you just because you're white. You don't even have to do anything, you just need to show up. (dunno if true)

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

It's true, I taught English in China in 2008, most white guys there were literally there to be the "face" at social events.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

From my understanding it was to show them being an international company "Very big, very legit, We are the best"

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yup, pretty much. I'm Asian-American, but my all-out White coworkers were always front and center at press releases, etc.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

hate foreigners. Or at least love fucking with them. Making jokes, mocking and overcharging. /2

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

it depends on the city. where I live foreigners are treated like benevolent aliens - we aren't really human, but we have powers beyond 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

their understanding and they tend to think we are here to use those powers for good (as long as it's their good). 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So, what do they say about white people, then?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They will call you English and blabber about how you fucked our country and squeezed all riches out of it for 200 years.

As an Indian in America, holy shit I've been saying this for years and nobody believed me. Imo, Indians are the most racist people Ive seen

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 3

Maybe the ones from your state. All Indians are not the same.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

I live in NJ, which is home to like half the Indian population in the US. That+time I've spent in India makes me think it's true for most

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

How many of the 1.3billion people do you know ? How many states have you visited and how many languages do you speak ?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Visited 11 states, lived in 4, can speak 3 languages (Kannada, Hindi, Gujarati) and can understand Bangla. I know what I'm talking about

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

What's the most racist incident that you have seen in real life ? What did the Indians in question do ?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

You say Indians are the most racist .. I think you have no clue about the history of race in America. Read some history.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

My grandma makes these comments here in the US too. She once told me with such confidence that "black women have psychological problems" pt1

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

"Because of how taut their hair is pulled" she said this on the train with a black woman in front of us. Indians are super racist.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

"psychological issues"... "because of how their hair is pulled"... I am fascinated by the severe ignorance of how neurology works at 1/

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

display. Like I'm not even mad, holy shit. I need to understand what the fuck she was thinking about because it sure as hell isn't 2/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

consistent with any scientific model at all. Like I'm not even mad this is just baffling. 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's more is She's a mathematician and a physicist. Moral of the story: You can be incredibly intelligent AND incredibly ignorant.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, it's the sort of a folk-tale intuitive explanation of things that the uneducated rely on to explain what they don't understand

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You should hear the shit they say about each other

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well india is a diverse country. Of course there is big cultural divide, however divide is not the problem, refusal to cooperate is.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Isn't a divide literally just a refusal to cooperate?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Divide just means they dont want to mix their cultures and traditions, which is natural and good. Like prussians and bavarians.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That isn't natural or good. We can all work together, and by driving a hard line between things, it creates racism.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think preservation of thousand year old culture is a little more important than a few racial slurs my communist friend

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, does this mean America is less racist than my professors have told me?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

Tbh, americans are some of the nicest people I know

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, it means Indua is more racist an your professors have told you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

India, too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Being less racist is still fucking racist and it should be stamped out. We shouldn't get cookies for not being as bad as the others.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Most Americans are not racist at all in my experience, and really depends on the state/area. Compared to India and Korea, sainthood.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

As an American, yes. Yes they are.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I kind of had that feeling, just wish my teachers would stop telling me that America is racist, not even as an opinion, but as a fact.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I think the US is one of the few places that owns up to it. Not like we're gonna fix it but... ya know...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The fact that racism exists isn't exactly an "opinion". The US isn't as racist as other problem countries, sure, but there are still issues.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So fucking true. Upvoting for awareness.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Since Indians are not a single entity, I'm guessing Indians abroad are less clingy to bad customs/running away from them. Jmo

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As an Indian, can verify this is accurate.

9 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 3

Parth Vader? Can guess.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. Whenever I visit India with my gringo husband he gets all the attention and gets served first in restaurants while I get ignored :/

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Lol. Still that's not so bad, imagine him getting insulted in your old hometown.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ouch. Yeah that probably happens too by my gossiping aunties.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In one of my English class we read a short story by an Indian writer, and I pointed out the racism in the story. I know the two major 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Languages spoken in the Indian sub continent. The Indians in the class said it's not racism, its just their culture is different. Smh. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just out of curiosity, which story?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This was long time ago. Let me try to find the name of the story. It was an Indian American author.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please let me know if you do find it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 major languages? I think you're missing 9

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Speaking of Hindi and Punjabi. Yes there are other languages, but Hindi is the biggest. Punjabi is also a major language.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hindi, sure, but I wouldn't say Punjabi is THE second major language in India. Probably like Bengali or Marathi.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just to share information, Punjabi is not even a top 10 language in India :) 1/2

As an American IT worker, it's almost impossible not to develop a prejudice against them. When you see your friends get replaced by them...

9 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 22

this is the most pathetic fucking attitude. just because people from elsewhere can do your job doesn't give you a free pass to be racist.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

It just makes you dislike them irrationally.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 8

That's more about the company you work for. I have many Indian friends and work in IT. Says a lot about diversity of experiences.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

So blame your Bosses! Abusing the visa system and everything...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That can't be, the man I spoke to may have SOUNDED like Apu from the Simpsons, but he said his name was Bob, and was from Texas.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

The prejudice being that they're better at their job than your friends?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 24

...you know god damn well why jobs are being shipped in India. Don't play dumb.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

I don't think you guys know what the word prejudice means.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Now imagine how europe feels about immigration

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 25

except they're not deporting white people

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

^ That. Living in a place with high immigration easily teaches you that only big business profit from it, the immigrants rarely if ever 1/

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

get to a decent living condition because they're willing to work for literal cents and the natives get replaced by them because they're 2/

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

not willing to take so little for the job that you'd need 4 jobs to get to the minimum wage, the cops rarely if ever do anything 3/

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

about it even tho the law says they should, and in the end only the employer gets anything out of this shit. I'm not 100% against 4/

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

The caste system is kinda fucked up.

9 years ago | Likes 1775 Dislikes 16

What is the point of this post? Indians are racist and shouldn't complain when they are victims of racial vitriol? This is idiotic.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

It's more about hippocracy. How can you look down on someone so easily and then get upset when others look down on you the same way?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Life is kinda fucked up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you can thank the brits for that though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Maybe a bit more than just "kinda fucked up".

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kinda? That's like saying the Nazis were really terrible, considering.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Indian racists say since Modi (a "backward caste") became PM, casteism over. Like how American racists say since Obama was Pres, racism over

Even reading about itas a kid I thought it was BS, even more learning THEY STILL USED IT.

I like how you leave it to our imaginations what those slave children had been doing for you.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Slave children at your disposal ? Did i read that right ? Or did you have a Sean Spicer moment ?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

these kids were born into a slave caste, both their parents died when they were very young. owner of a farm permitted them to have --->

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

a basically shack on his land so they wouldn't be out on the street. and they identified as slaves, it was a tradition/pride thing for --->

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

them, but the farm owner and everyone who worked there would give them little jobs/errands to do, but would tip them out waaaay above ---->

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And what caste exactly ? I was born in India. If I knew of a slavery situation I would have called the cops. The cops free many people -->

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Though what you described doesn't sound like slavery if that's how it happened. More like a village raising a child.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In that situation. Despite the belief that they are all corrupt. You should have called the cops.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also why I'm not of a fan of some ideas of "karma". Means if you're born poor/disabled you deserved it coz you were bad in a previous life.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

That's not actually how karma works. Not entirely. It doesnt judge good or bad. It's not a reward system.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It'd the excuse used behind the caste system in India.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's how I roughly understand it. The caste system is a result of and sustained by the belief in karma and reincarnation.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would you mind explaining if you have the time? You do good, you'll get good done to you in the general idea as I've understood it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's actually not that at all. Like I said, it's not a reward system. The end goal is salvation, which is believed to be able to be achieved

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

By having no karma. There's negative, neutral, and positive karma. Most Hinduism (it is a varied religion) follows the idea that duty and

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I simplified coz of character limit. I also wrote SOME ideas of karma. Would it be better had I written "did bad in a previous life"?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

1) Not really. I explained a little more to the other guy. Karma isn't based in moral righteousness. That's an ideal of western religions

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2) It can affect caste, but your new life is completely new and you're an entirely new person. The cosmos doesnt cripple you or hurt your

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

kinda effed up is if you can get your animals killed if it touches someone of a higher caste land and there is nothing you can do

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I believed that only applies with dhalit

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

gotta look into that, had a coworker train people in India years ago, if I ever get into that position since I'm a darkie don't want crap

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from the trainees or Hr will be culturally sensitive and not send me lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hear they make lower castes pig farmers and if their pigs go off of their land a higher caste person can kill it just because

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

they lost food and money and no renumeration by the authorities

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I used to work with a dude who wouldn't talk to a girl because she was the wrong caste. I never saw her, but I'm told she was smoking hot,

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well that goes without saying.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol. It's worse for "high caste". It is much more difficult to get into good colleges or jobs if you are not in a reserved quota.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 32

Yes, have heard about quotas to trying and make it fair for all. Much like America's Affimative Action.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I am not sure about the affirm action but the quota system sucks. I think there should be no reservations for anyone but that's just me!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

It was supposed to end by 1972 according to the original plan, if I am not mistaken, but yes, it really needs to go!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I get that reservation hurts, but you cant equate that to how dalit's have been historically treated

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Going to reach through the current system. Reservations are no longer an effective strategy to address the issue. 5/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I personally know people from lower castes who lead the same lifestyle I do, have had the same opportunities that I do, who avail of this3/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There were just 6 seats. Out of these, 4 were reserved. Just 2 were open category. 7/7

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Meanwhile, people from a weaker background but those who don't fall under these specific categories have never had opportunities. 2/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If we want to level the playing field, it no longer makes sense to do so through reservations. Those we haven't reached yet, we aren't 4/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the reservations have gotten out of hand. To give you some perspective, I was applying for a masters course last year. 6/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No one is trying to equate the two but the ones who are currently benefiting from reservations have been availing of them for generations1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easy fix. Limit reservation to 1 or 2 generations per family. That way worse off dalits get their turn instead of the rich ones hogging it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely not! It was bad!! I agree.. but that entire generation is dead now and the next one benefited from the system. I am not saying1/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

now but some day that things needs to be removed. It sucks that dalit were treated badly but this generation didn't do that. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Wait, what? Are Singaporeans not all kind of Chinese or do you mean they only rent to Singaporeans and not people from China?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Singapore had a lot of Chinese and Malaysian and Indians. From what I read, it seems they think certain folks are messier.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Singaporeans consider themselves literally just that, no connection to the old country. The newly immigrated senior han Chinese are disliked
