4 days sober

Aug 15, 2017 4:00 PM

I have been drunk everyday for the past couple years. I have a husband and daughter who love me very much. I decided four days ago to quit drinking cold turkey and it is a LOT harder than I thought. I need all the encouragement I can get right now as I woke up this morning wanting to drink.

You might feel like it's unbearable at times.Counting days, hours or even minutes is completely acceptable. B stubborn. This shall pass too.

I mean, have you tried warm turkey? Little tomato and mustard doesn't hurt either.

See a doctor, go to treatment. Post acute withdrawal syndrome is no joke.

It's said in other places, but if you're that habitual a drinker, you absolutely need medical help or it can be fatal. Strong work though!

I just quit smoking 20 days ago cold turkey, I've been smoking for 23 years. You can do this!!

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

That's awesome!

What I CAN give you is an upvote.

Take it one day at a time. You just have to make it through today. Just one day. You can be weak tomorrow, but today you will be strong.

Think of it as letting something go, rather than giving something up, like a weight being lifted. I thought I'd never be able to stop but

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did 6 years ago and it's like being set free. I don't even miss it. So anything is possible.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 years sober here. It gets better. Waking up w/o a hangover is the best part. Get numbers from anyone who supports you, to call l/text! +1

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Your worth it baby your worth it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Keep it up. Don't hesitate to get professional help. You got this!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

DON'T QUIT ALCOHOL COLD TURKEY. I cannot stress this enough. Get help. I've seen detoxing alcoholics. Medically, it's dangerous

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Very much depends on the person. I've had some who reach a max of 7 on their CIWAS and others who I'm chucking valium into like it's candy.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But it can be very dangerous and even deadly in some people who are prone to withdrawal seizures. Please stay safe OP and into treatment.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. My mom is a recovering alcoholic for years now, but went into violent seizures from withdrawals when first quitting

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Take it one hour at a time, seek your higher power, find a meeting. Cheesy advice bc it works.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Also; congrats, you're doing it!!! It takes so much strength but you have got it! It won't be easy but you are strong <3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck I joined the fight 2 days ago.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

That's great! You can do it! Keep your eye on the prize. It's amazing how much better your life will be!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck to you!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Keep going, it's worth it, and you save money.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is tough but you can do it, it will take a while for the routine of drinking alcohol to get out of your system, make life your addiction

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Admitting and having the strength to talk about it is a real good thing, the best of British to ya.

Don't go cold turkey, alcohol withdrawal is the one most likely to kill you. See a doctor or a treatment centre, you are really at risk!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Do it for them and yourself. good luck <3

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Itll be the one of the best decision u ever make

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's tough I'm back at day 5 AGAIN. Don't stop trying, and remember that you're surrounded by people who love and support you. Talk to them.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good luck and thank you for the support!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It sucks b/c I live alone. I can get bored and lonely. This time of night is when I start in my cups. It's even worse with the full moon.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But I'm 5 days sober and feeling healthier already. Morning anxiety is going away; the key is to stay busy. Peace to you, tinalouwho

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 days sober is better than zero. I'm sure we will all fall off the wagon all you can do is dust yourself off and get back on. Good luck

Binge watching shitty tv shows or something. (You can work on healthier habits once you kick the loopy juice). Good luck, stay strong!

You got this

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it sounds silly sometimes but go to a meeting if your feeling powerless. you will be amazed how much just being there can help

8 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 4

Can confirm. Very rarely leave a meeting feeling worse.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah the hardest thing for me about it is feeling like I have nothing else to do. Having friends from a meeting helps that.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I was going nuts last night with boredom. I need to find something to do to keep my mind off drinking.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you like jigsaw puzzles or crafts like crochet/knitting? For my anxiety, I switch between focus-based tasks and mindless tasks. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I also started making jewelry as a focus-creative task. Ukulele is an easy and super fun instrument to learn, if you wanna go that route 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

find a sauna. go for 3-4 days in a row for 10min sessions and get a good sweat going. you'll feel better in a few days. drink lots of water

8 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 15

Also give lots of blowjobs it helps with the oral fixation

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

This is not safe. It might work for smoking, but alcohol withdrawal can lead to death

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Uhhh yeah this is better advice for casual drinkers...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I need to repeat this: LOTS of water.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Put some cucumber and lemon/lime in your water. It helps with the detox.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

Is that a thing? Sweating helping with detoxing from alcohol? Is that just like an old wives tale or ?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

old wives tale

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It is not good for alcohol. But is the best way to quit smoking

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yes, helps with detoxing from lots of things. but for me i just walk outside for 10 minutes cause i live in Texas. it's a free sauna lol

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Your username says it all xD

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Alcohol dependence is a physical addiction, I would contact a physician to make sure doing what you're doing is safe.

8 years ago | Likes 437 Dislikes 8

Nurse. Agreed.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 1

All the best. You got this.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

OP answers and thanks one person and suddenly everyone says what to do. She is literally seeing a doctor tomorrow, chill.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

And i did the exact same thing as you are doing now, it can work. Good luck and remember that what you are doing is the right thing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FIGHTING!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck. I'm on day 50 something with no nicotine. Shit is still rough, but it gets easier.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good luck! All my wishes to you from across the internet. You can do this!!! :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Talk to a therapist or counselor too. I did once/week for a while And will once/month forever. Quitting is easy, learning how to live (1)

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Life without booze is the hard part, and that's next to impossible to figure out without help. Message me if you want to talk 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Forgot to say...it takes roughly 90 days for your emotions to balance out after quitting, so you can't trust yourself right now 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Not to mention your stomach. The constipation will wreck ya...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would recommend reading Steve-O book, you follow him through his addiction and recovery, might help you :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And good luck!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ask your doc about Lithium. It works wonders for alcohol withdrawals.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal in some cases, be careful. Although if you're already at day 4, you should be in the clear.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why is it fatal? What happens?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen electrolyte derangement, arrhythmias, hallucinations, seizures, you name it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't get sober alone. I'm also glad you've got an MD appt, alcohol cold turkey is SERIOUSLY risky. Best of luck. Sober is doable!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to hear! I wish you luck with your future ????????

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good to hear. Alcohol withdrawal is one of the only ones that can kill you. Be safe, and good luck. Good for you!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

How does it kill yah?

Gabapentin is cheap (if you don't have insurance, get a coupon for free from goodrx.com) and it cuts alcohol cravings like nobodys biz

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still take it with a mood stabilizer because of how good it is at anti anxiety as well as keeping cravings down

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

is tis prescription or over the counter?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

RX, but it isn't a narcotic, so it's easy to get from your general practitioner.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gabapentin, or neurontin, is prescription. Talk to you doc about it. -psych nurse.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
