Some of us have a wound or have suffered damage which is clear for everyone to see.

And some of us wear or wounds and suffering on the inside.

Seeing people overcome their challenges have reminded me during difficult times that I can also do this, and put a lot of things into perspective.

Helping me find motivation, inspiration and creativity

And also be reminded to help other people who might be struggling. Whatever their struggle might be.

This is Winnie Harlow.

She is a Fashion Model.

She was born with the skin condition vitiligo, changing the pigment in her skin from brown to white.

This is Shaquem Griffin

He is a professional football player with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.

As you can see, he has 1 hand, and he is still one hell of a football player.

This is Lizzie Velasquez

She is a motivational speaker and author.

She was born with the extremely rare condition called Marfanoid–progeroid–lipodystrophy syndrome. This disease prevents her from accumulating body fat and gaining weight. She is only 29.

Here is one of her amazing speeches - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c62Aqdlzvqk

This is Ally Bruener.

She is a stand-up comedian.

She has Muscular Dystrophy and is fully wheelchair-bound, but that doesn't stop her in the least.

One her comedy routines - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FKWfru29d8

This is Daryl Mitchell

He is an actor, most notably remembered in one of Imgurs favorite films, Galaxy Quest.

He was paralyzed from the waist down after a motorcycle accident in 2001. He didn't miss a beat and has had constant acting work ever since, including shows NCIS: New Orleans, Fear the Walking Dead, and Ed.

Athlete with cerebral palsy deadlifts 200 pounds! He weighs only 99 pounds himself.

One armed 225lb lift

Michael Cleveland, the Blind & (not quite) Deaf fiddler jamming as a child with fellow blind musician, Doc Watson.

I hope you are doing well out there and that you may also overcome any challenges you are experiencing in life. I hope this little post can act as inspiration to you as it has done to me.

Please do share things that have inspired you throughout your life.

Edit: First time front page, hope some of you were inspired! Share more inspirational stuff with each other and less sad things :)

Humans are meant to connect, doesn't matter if we are damaged.

Social model of disability accepts the person and the barriers are society's. There's a whole movement @disability equality 2/

Live the sentiment but be mindful of disability language. Eg Wheelchair bound is so much more negative than wheelchair user. 1/

All inspiring. Terry Fox was something special to millions of Canadians

I look at these folks and think "wow that would suck" but they seem exceptionally optimistic and have the "fuckin watch this" attitude. +1

Totally the attitude needed to get by.

Disability Pride matters! Normalize this involvement! At least 1 in 5 of us have a disability and we belong everywhere! Thank you @OP

#13 I was introduced to Lizzie because some folks posted "Kill it with fire" on her vids, and she responded with such grace and class.

As a child I didn't want to see disabled athletes because it didn't reflect what I wanted to do. Now Ive become what I needed. 1/2

I work in a factory, I also work on railroad equipment. Showing all who see that my wheelchair may limit me but it doesn't define me.

My Wife is in a chair for the most part, though she can do some things. She uses TikTok as a platform to bring awareness to disabilities.

.. I know I shouldn't feel this, but when I see people hurdling challenges life has thrown at them, and I cannot seem to struggle to climb

over the smallest things, I feel so... horrible. Like I have so much less excuse to even exist compared to these souls.

Look at how much support they get from others. Great attitudes don't come magically out of the air.

Google Lizzie Velasquez if you wanna see how truly awful humans can be.

#24 - Fun fact, those blade style prosthetic legs are in some ways better than our natural legs. They store energy more efficiently...

...with each step, allowing running with up to 17% less effort and because they are lighter, up to 21% faster stride.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better in only 1 way, energy conservation and return. The blades are specifically designed for running in a straight line, and actually...
