I wanted a hammock stand that I could pack into check-in luggage for air travel. I started with this stand.

The segments were cut down to no more then 27 inches, to fit this suitcase. Then we used coupling joints to make it so they can be reattached together. The total weight of this suitcase was 41.4 pounds, under the 50 lb airline limit.

It was thoroughly tested at home to try and avoid failures on the trip. The stand is much more wobbly than it was before the cuts. But, once I am in it and sleeping, it doesn't move around at all unless I shift.

Hotel room success! The only problem was the suitcase. It was THRASHED! The poles moving around inside the case tore up all the lining and the force from airline handling of the bag broke open one of the hinges. The hammock worked fantastically, but I barely got it back home in that suitcase.

After much measuring and researching, I chose this Plano rifle case.

It works perfectly!

Less weight, and more protected. It's a winner!

That's very cool. Nice

Can you not sleep on a bed? - genuine question, not sass.

I had mild back-aches in a bed. Switched to a hammock 5 years ago, and the aches are gone. But now, when I sleep in a bed, i get BAD aches.

I'm in the same boat. I switched to a hammock about 2 years ago for much the same reason, with the exact same results.
