Just before starting college I decided after I graduate I would go to Las Vegas to celebrate 4 years of hard work. Unfortunately, i got a job 3 wks out of school and never pursued my Vegas dreams until a friend recently proposed a spontaneous 60 hour Vegas trip with round trip tickets from Chicago for $92. Decided to yes man the proposal and go Despite trying to save money. Banana for scale.

I forgot about my vegas fund that college me started. This garage sale piggy bank sat in my parents' closet for the last three years after college.

Finally cashed out with $400 in coins, coupled with $350 cash from some random odd jobs and deposits into the crayon with a whopping $750. Vegas here i come.

Sad to see it So empty...

I'll probably be broke 2 hours after landing.

edit: Seems like everyone is very concerned about the 8.9% banking fee. To clarify, I bank with TCF, but the coin machine at the branch I went to was not connected to the bank accounts in any way. You first deposit all your coins and it prints out a receipt that provides you the sum for a customer and the sum for a non customer. You then take this receipt to your bank teller (I barely know her) and show them you are a customer to receive full amount in cash or as deposit to your account. I was going to go to Chase, but if you want them to take your coins you have to roll them yourselves. Considering I spent 20 minutes just pouring the change into the machine, I'm glad I didn't roll and count myself.

You doing that charter flight out of Rockford?

Stratosphere has a careless table. Found out last trip. Bet the board and double down your winning first couple hits and you'll make bank.

A bank will take your coins and count them for free (generally)

They charged you $35 to count $400 in coins? What the fuck...

For non customers, he's a customer so it was free. The bank i work at charges 5%.

8.9% fee is a bit steep. But have fun, I stayed at the New York New York couple yrs back - had an absolute blast and can't wait to go again.

The bank i work at charges 5%. Most coins stars charge 12%

It's cheeky though wouldn't you agree? Charging to put your money actually 'in' the bank..

I guess but since he was a customer it was free, same with my bank. They most likely charge non customers for repair cost if it breaks

Very possibly. Thanks anyways. Have a good day/evening wherever you may be.

Wow...for $35, I would have just counted it all myself and taken it to the bank.

Banks have coin machines and if it's your bank they don't charge a fee

He got charged a fee though. That's why I made the comment.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ik I'm saying you don't have to count it because banks have machines to cont it for you

He didn't get a fee. He banks with tcf so its free. Its just telling you what it would cost if he didn't bank with them.

Well...that's confusing. Why bother saying it if they are a customer?
