Trailer weight distribution

And imagine this scenario without a giant arm to save you <:o

I did this experiment in real life similar results plus life flashing before eyes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically don't have OPs mom on the back of your trailer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So paint the front of the trailer red, right?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they have one of these showing the benefit of fifth wheel vs trailer for pickups?!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Either that person’s hand is HUGE, or that is a model car. Either way this is fascinating.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Weight distribution is important. I have seen a couple people learn this the hard way.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Both entertaining and informative, I like it!

8 years ago | Likes 199 Dislikes 1

who fucken tows with a mustang

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I pretend im the latter when i pee

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now that I’ve seen the trailer, I can’t wait to watch the movie!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey I currently work for uhaul

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too bad nobody renting a U-Haul gives a shit.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finally something to show my friends who won't believe me and complain I'm being bossy for wanting to load the trailer certain way.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That explains why you see towed boats getting out of control so often.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ok. I’ll move forward then

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No demonstration over the axles?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't tow with a Mustang.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 8

Especially at a Cars and Coffee event... EerrrrBOOM

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

that too!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also in my experience if you ever have a trailer start swaying bad. Accel fast and it will straighten out. Slowing down makes it worse.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yeah, speed up some with a quick acceleration, then start a gradual, controlled deceleration, pull over, fix your load.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is the toy car attached to something to keep it steering properly? Or is it steering itself like a badass?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It looks like a piece of string is attached to that hole at the front.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Here I was being like "no let it crash, I wanna see"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, that speed wobble would probably build into flipping it over in spite of the string.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trailer wheel alignment is just as important !!! Twist the wheels a few deg to the outside and check again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So boats should go in tail first is what I am gathering from this?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you look at a boat trailer, the axle is nearly at the tail already, because that motor is a significant portion of the weight. The 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

rest of the boat is fiberglass and aluminum, it hardly weighs anything comparatively, and so can rest more easily on the tongue. It's 2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

really the camper trailers that tend to have these sort of weight imbalance issues. Or cargo trailers. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Something suspicious about the way she grabs that that rod

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was throughly interesting to watch

8 years ago | Likes 703 Dislikes 2

It's all about leverage

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Upvoted for promoting traffic AND load distributionsafety

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, un-intuitively, you start fishtailing like that, you SPEED UP until it stabilizes, then reduce speed slowly.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want to know what happens if the weight is on both side, and another with the weight in the middle

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Throughly? Thoroughly? Truly?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

thororoughourly thougough

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And educational!

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Now I want to have sex in a car doing 100mph, fishtailing out of control! Now I want to have sex at all. Now I'm sad.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But I t’s more exciting with most of the trailer’s weight rear of the axle though!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trailer weight needs to be biased ahead of the trailer axle. Typically 10-20% or more of the trailer capacity: always.

8 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 2

How to load your trailer, by Snape.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In this case the axle of the semi is way forward and there’s just the one, is this accurate or does it affect the outcome?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Information unclear: put 120% of trailer capacity in front of axle and 100% behind. Got dick stuck in light socket.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Perhaps using a fork isn’t for you. Get this orc a spoon.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spoon stuck in gas tank, dick still in light socket, and trailer still broken.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So now imagine how much we were shitting ourselves when we re did the deck and the boards were so long that no matter what they overhung by

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 ft. I checked and there was 12 lbs of tongue weight

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Learned this in drivers ed... an endagered course nowdays

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

The worst accident I've ever seen involved a trailer on a windy day... In fact most accidents I've passed there was a trailer :(

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As someone who frequently tours the US in a van/trailer...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I give wide berth to them on the interstate... Weight distribution, improper hitching, insufficient tires for high speeds, poor inflation...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I drive in Phoenix and the only trailers I'm NOT worried about are the ones on trucks driven by immigrant workers. They go full out to 1/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

do it the right way, everything licensed and working because (in all honesty) most of them aren't working legally here. It's the soccer 2/

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its a ford mustang. That's why

8 years ago | Likes 210 Dislikes 29

Also the trailer is like hilariously overproportioned...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Compared to what, a tractor?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's to exaggerate the point and illustrate the importance of load balance very quickly.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ford. At least they circled the problem.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

Last American car company *shrugs* they at least did something right.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

First car company, ever

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You misunderstood; last company now to be solely American owned. But yes, first car company to mass produce.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ackshually Mustangs finally stopped using solid rear axles. Way back in... 2015 :P (Which is the 6th gen pictured here)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Which is akin to saying we stopped burning woman at the stake for being a suspected witch by 2015. IE 2010 and still using solid?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Well I don't think it's quite like burning women at the stake, but yes they used them way longer than they should have.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It will utterly shock you to hear that a lot of mustang fans were really upset at that change too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If your using a mustang to tow, you deserve the accident.

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 16

Track stuff

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Towing Power: 4 tons; Towing Weight Capacity: 38lbs

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My brother had a Dodge Charger with a hitch. Can't tell you how many times I hit my shin on it because who puts a hitch on a Charger?!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When I moved to Australia I found that most cars, even small cars have tow hitches. It's weird and hilarious

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're*

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Feel better?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

If you use a mustang you, are an accident.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 8

If you, use a comma you are, an accident.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

If you have load distributing hitch setup and electric trailering brakes it doesn’t matter if you use a Miata.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Although it helps on hills to have rear wheel drive

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*4 wheel drive

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A Mata is rear wheel drive.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know, however lots of people tow with fwd like minivans

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So we want it heavier in the front right? At least that’s what I gather..

8 years ago | Likes 564 Dislikes 3

Same with backpacks. The heavy stuff close to your spine and/or low down.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Just as important is proper wheel alignment. Most people don't care or even know that the trailer's wheels need to have the correct alignme.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Balanced really, think of the weight shift when accelerating and decelerating. The height of the center of gravity is also important.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DON'T FORGET: Ball weight, The maximum weight you can have resting on the tow ball. We measure it here as 10% Max towing capacity.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

heavier between car and axis, not behind axis

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ideally balanced on the vehicle and load on the trailer wheels, not the hitch. Has to do with hitch weight capacity and handling

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes please. Less motion in the front so less fish tailing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, the red things go in front.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Nonono. We want it lighter at the back, clearly.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, not really. Best case scenario is not to be hit by a giant hand.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not if you want an interesting trip.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're tired of life, yes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lets Go Buffalo

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but at higher weights there can too much forward if you're not careful, always more than 60% forward, though.

8 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 1

Center of gravoty people. Center of gravity.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From a technical point of view, tow vehicle has a trailer weight limit and a range of acceptable coupling weights. Respect them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a rule of thumb for an average car, you want the trailer to be nose-heavy to the extent that you can just pick it up with one hand.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not exactly, you want the weight between the trailer tire and the hitch, this is a bad example cus not many trailers have tires that far fwd

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never ever ever use a single axel trailer is what u should learn from this

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So OP's mom in the front

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

don’t max out the trailer though

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gotta pay attention to tongue weight too, most hitches have a specific tongue weight limit. This should be proportional to trailer's GVW.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Tongue weight, within reason for the to vehicle, is good

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Aim for balanced. Weight distribution hitches help too. Proper ride height and setup are crucial. Plus probably don’t tow with a mustang

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Mustangs are made for towing? Crap...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget front left, but yeah. Weight in the front.

8 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 3

If its 2+ axles you want it either centered over the axles or slightly forward of the front axle.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dead center front

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Why do they put the shelf in the front of a uhaul? Is that filled with weights so the front is heavier?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see what you did there

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I don't know if very many people are getting the subtly of this coment.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 488 Dislikes 1

haha.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I don’t think I’d be falling asleep in that teachers class....

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I take photos of kids who fall asleep and text them to their moms, then give them a chair with no desk for the next two classes ????

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You cruel bugger, I like you!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only thing ya doing is to teach kids to sleep without the use of a desk.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am able to sleep without the use of a desk.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish my teacher was that passive. I wasn't even sleeping, just had my head lowered, and my teach picked up my desk and shook it with 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

me still sitting in it. I looked him dead in the eye and told him to put me down. He did and didn't do it again. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And then the whole classroom clapped.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

His wang hanging out, then when I told my father he beat me with jumper cables 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

I can never not upvote this meme.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

/u/rogersimon10, is that you?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

v

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The bulk of the weight needs to be over the axles ...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

That's the way I've always done it. Maybe these people just pull a light load tho, too many people breaking their truck over like a bitch

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I guess that’s why 18 wheeler trailers have their wheels in the middle, right? So the weight is over the wheels?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Again tons vs grams

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Tons vs grams... Speed, weight, steering, and stopping distance

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

See my post above.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe your just inexperienced

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You always want the weight biased ahead of the trailer axles. Source: I tow 10k+lb trailers regularly and have rebuilt them too

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also i said over the axel... The middle of that trailer is where that would be... Only saw a few grams get shifted from front to back.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Uh. Still wrong

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By your standards which means nothing to me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
