Don't let some stick, keep you from that click!

I bought a gameboy recently....was so pumped to use it. But I tossed the first game in anddddd the start/select buttons weren't working. This will not work...

Bought some tools: 1. Phillips #1 screwdriver, 2. Tri-point Y0 screwdriver, 3. Spudger

First you remove the outside screws with the Y0. The last two are in the battery case FYI.

Then you take the cover off to expose the innards...oohhhh

Then use the spudger to push the two small black locks above the ribbon looking thing up.

Bam just like that

Then slowly lift the ribbon thing from the white thing. It'll come completely out.

Next time for the Phillips head #1. Get this screw

This one

And this one...They gone!

Now that the motherboard is free and clear....gone (lift carefully)

....buttons are exposed!!

Look at that beauty. Definitely needs a good dusting!

Lift the rubber casings out and wipe everything down carefully. Normally buttons don't work because there is a disconnect between the buttons and the circuit. Clean that shit! Don't buy a new one. These babies are getting expensive!

Boom...now I can save for days! Welcome back childhood, I have missed you so.

Instructions unclear. Dick caught in toaster

I can't believe you totally dissasembled it and didn't clean everything. That D-pad is disgusting.

Tonight was the first time I took it apart. I have many goals with this little guy. I will replace all of the buttons once I get the chance!

Thanks for wasting three minutes of my life.

Zero fucking glue. Also, inde-fucking-structible. I tip my hat, Nintendo.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gotta love it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AAA? Quality choice name there. Is there a missingno type glitch that includes the name?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably not, but in Undertale, if you pick AAAAAA for the fallen human's name, it'll say "Not very creative...?". Just some trivia.

If you want a gameboy clone for shits and giggles buy a Kong Feng GB Boy. It can serve as a backup or if you want to play in the dark.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How long did you work at Apple, @op?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NEVER!!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember the ritual when i was a kid of cracking open my Genesis controller and cleaing the button contacts when they stopped working.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You had to buy a Phillips? As in, you did not own a phillips screwdriver before this?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not a #1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still have a pink one somewhere

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find it. One day it'll be worth its weight in gold

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure its in my sock drawer with all my old pokemon games

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ribbon looking thing reminded me of this classic scene.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spudger sounds like an insult, ya spudger

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's whatever you want it to be

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did not read that as "click".

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Came for the Gameboy, stayed for the ribbon thing

The cringing is unreal.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 15

Damn millennials, getting awarded for watching now? For shame, what our country is coming to. /s

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

What the fuck, since when was there a Pokemon Green in English!?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The world may never know

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post this teardown in ifixit.com

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who tries to avoid bootlegs, how is that copy of Green? Did you get it from a certain site?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did some research...shopped around. Found it from a seller on Etsy, GameBoyFanBoy. Game is wonderful, I've really enjoyed playing it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any limitations compared to the original English Red / Blue releases? There have been multiple Green hacks, some are better than others.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't want to pay for a physical copy and import costs just to find it is a dud, want one like this https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/876/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does anyone know how to fix the save battery for an original Red cartridge?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check out ifixit.com. That's where I learn everything I know

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. Found my old game boy color. I sold all my games a few years back including my game boy camera and other accessories. There were maybe

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2. 40 games too. Had them in a nice carrying case too. My dumbass sold it all to some guy for $90. I know I could've gotten so much more.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I got my console for $25. But avg on the markets is $50-75. Games are $15 minimum. If only....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still hate myself for letting it go that cheap.Thankfully the guy was a collector of all things Nintendo so I know he took care of it all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now frontlight it and get a new screen glass.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now do a tutorial on how to replace the cartridge batteries.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I don't own a soldering iron or I would...maybe that'll be my next project

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is that an aftermarket pokemon green or something? Never seen one with a green cartridge and in English.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I. Relieve so

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you drag the carbon pieces under the buttons on some paper a few times you can get better contact again ;)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Killer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never thought they were just expensive. If found a few at garage sales for like $10

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get them! Refurbishing them you can get some@solid cash

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was nothing wrong with them. I sold one at a videogame store and took 2 apart to switch the backs to make multicolored ones.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Something happened to one and I ended sup throwing it away. And the last one I gave to my brother

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FUCK. from the thumbnail, I thought and was hoping this was going to be a Raspberry PI custom job

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sigh... I feel like everybody knows how to do stuff good

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do a frontlight mod on it. I'm planning on doing that for my GBC.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second recommendation....definitely doing it. I grew up with the external light. Time for an upgrade

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might add a switch to turn the light on and off to conserve the battery.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now that you can dissassemble, take a shot at case cusromization? Simple paint jobs can add a new flair.

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Definitely. I haven't decided what I want to do though. Any ideas?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do, don't go for the bukkake chic look

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Add a front lit screen. I did it with mine and it was super easy. Worth being able to see and doesn't significantly drain the battery.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That sounds bad ass. Where did you get your lights?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

eBay; they're like $15 + a tube of Loca glue. This Does Not Compute on YouTube has a good video tutorial.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Killer. I'm doing it. I don't give a duck

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Painter's tape cut into patterns, and your choice of colours. Real simple and real basic, but easy way to give it a unique look.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out http://store.kitsch-bent.com The site has a lot of parts and ideas.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How about a nice turquoise shade?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love the anti static trash can lid

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not a trash can. But where can you find that?!?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is a handle visible in the middle, and it's round

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a kettle in a little home brewery

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An anti-static kettle? got it!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had the gold pokemon edition gameboy color growing up but all of my old hand helds are gone and i am sad

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I really want a Gameboy micro....

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too man they're hella rare to find in good shape

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*heavy breathing* i didnt know that existed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got this one for $25 on Etsy. It's still pretty gross. But I'm thinking about polishing it up. Maybe even painting it to make it my own.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On etsy?! Thats awesome!!! Post pics if you end up customizing! :D

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Done deal. Got it last week. I'll see what I can do
