I went to a local Native American convention near me a couple of times. Always had a blast. Good food, good music. Bought some jewelry. Met some artists I knew.
Then I couldn’t go for a few years due to being called out of town on the same dates. And during that time, it ceased operations.☹️
I need to see if anything similar has sprung up to replace it.
What lucky kids! Going to pow wows with my friends always brought a little bit of joy to my life. No accounting for strange uncles, but pretty much everyone else loved having a silly white boy at their get togethers.
Any recommendations on events where I can see cool stuff like this or be around Native Americans / American Indians. I love the culture (also tips on being respectful in general are appreciated as well)
I moved here from Toronto two years ago. Bit of a change, but I'm actually quite enjoying it. I really appreciate how much sunlight we get. Toronto is very cloudy due to the Great Lakes.
I really want to go visit the Gathering of Nations in New Mexico that happens every year. Seems like it'd be a great educational experience, and supremely humbling.
My wife is a member of the Potawatomi tribe (white, but has a great-great grandmother who was Native American), and I might ask her to take me to a powwow.

Pow wows (literally they are called that) are great events sharing food, art, dance. Go forth with curiosity and courtesy and the world is open

And REALLY cool souvenirs.

This is a great track with Cree singers and native dancers and it's got SUCH a big bad beat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTJvpfkRRdA

I live in Edmonton. Have some indigenous friends, and watching the dancing at a Pow Wow is just awesome.

I go every year to the one in Austin. I grew up staying with Gramma in OK every summer and we would go, I fell in love with the colors and drums!

If you aren't indigenous, is it invite-only?
