This time last year, my wife and I were living in another country, jobless and financially broke. We didn't know anybody. For Christmas we shared a burger and saw Star Wars.

We took a gamble, emigrated and started applying for new roles.

Now, I have the most rewarding job I've ever held, we've got great pets, friends, and are part of some really fun clubs.

For Christmas, we are gonna share a burger and see Star Wars.

Merry Christmas everyone :)

I like this new font thing you've been going on

Maybe this year you can each have your own burger

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hum, "financially broke" so you found money to go to see SW, eating at a fast-food and taking plane tickets. I don't think you were broke

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's great that both you have been able to make a new start. You don't have to be happy as anything in particular. Good enough you're happy.

My thoughts exactly :)

Sounds like you've got a nice little Xmas tradition: Star Wars and a burger. I can get behind that. Emigrated to, from where?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Slovakia to Ireland :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's awesome! I only ask because I've been thinking very hard about emigrating myself. I've been thinking Norway. The US is getting bad...

Last time I went to Slovakia, they had no milk, a car was upturned and there were too many gypsies. Good move.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

I loved Slovakia! Worked in Trencin and Bratislava. Great people!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What the hell are these comments? I lived in the US for 5 years and I have a better life standard in Slovakia now. No milk? Gypsies? Wtf?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Slovakia is a wonderful, wonderful country and I have already been back once. I'll be back many more times.

Welcome to Ireland!! Sorry about the weather.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

It's actually not that bad!! It's certainly better than I heard :)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Where in Ireland are you living, may I ask? Bratislava is nice, but Irish towns/cities probably have more employment opportunities overall.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dublin :) I'd agree. But the cost of living is very high here, especially rent.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Glad to hear you're enjoying Ireland! Nollaig shona duit!

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Thanks :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to Ireland, hope this is the first of many happy Christmas' you spend here. Nollaig Shona Dhuit.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Me too, I think :) thank you!!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What does that Nollaig Shona Dhuit mean?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's Irish for "merry Xmas to you". Nollaig being Xmas, Shona, nice and duit, to you / you

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got lost in Bratislava once. I asked a cop for directions but he wanted money so I left. That's my whole story. Had fun there though.

8 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 1

Lol. That’s a reason to fly away. It’s called curruption! Glad you made it. Good luck

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Geez. Our police in the U.S. may have their problems, but I never had one try to shake me down for cash when I asked for directions!

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Sometimes they don't give the clearest directions...

Solve the Rubix cube

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of Dominican descent. Visited 2015. Uncle that picked me up from airport had to bribe cops @ fake checkpoint to let us thru w/ my luggage.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try Mexico. My parents went there in the 60s. Friend died. Police wouldn’t release body until police were bribed.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The cops in the US are angels compared to some countries.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Haha I never see regular videos of other cops gunning down unarmed and unresisting citizens do you?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

It is a super fun city, glad your resisted the angry sheriff!

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I’ve seen too much Hostel to believe ya

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Guy wasn't even angry. Just unhelpful. Got the impression he relies on small briberies to feed his family. Which is probably true.

Welcome to Ireland :) Drive the Wild Atlantic Way when you get a chance!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's on the list :) just got to afford a car first... But we'll get there :)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congrats... Greetings from australia... As far as I can tell (from the irish travelers round here) the Irish are cool

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Living here for 6 years now, can confirm, they're really cool

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, if you want a good laugh be sure to come to the Ireland Reddit page

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hopefully you're referring to the actual Irish and not "Irish travellers", we don't like to be associated with those criminals

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Travellers are every bit as 'actual' Irish as you are, even if you don't like them

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Fair enough but in the stories I've heard about them in Australia they refer to them as just "the Irish", gives the rest of us a bad name.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow, what made you to that particular country? I am curious.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Guinness, Murphy's, grand soft days, hurling, de craic, the rugby, the general "ah it'll be grand". Doesn't need to be in that order.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The job opportunities mostly, I have an excellent friend here who let us sleep on his blow up bed for as long as needed too, which was inval
