It'd be far more likely that he'd drop dead at this point; my hopes go up every time I hear he's been in the hospital or suchlike. Still, as poetic as it would be to give her his seat, she's 66; when he kicks the bucket I want to see a progressive in their 40s replace him. Honestly, no. She's well-qualified, but she's 66. The GOP is putting 40-somethings on the bench; we need to do the same if we're not going to impose reform on the court (which it's increasingly looking like we won't). This is bigger than any one person; we can't afford to make personal gestures with lifetime SCOTUS appts. (I have a lingering dread of Biden nominating Garland for a seat for similar reasons.)

Read the cited article. Republicans didn't want Angela Wright to testify because they wanted to isolate Anita Hill and attack her character. Democrats agreed to release a transcript of Wright's interview instead of having her testify in court because of time constraints and because Republicans had threatened to attack her if she did. Biden might have been a pussy-footing chicken shit in that scenario, but to put him to the same level of shame and blame as the Republicans involved is just insane.

She shared the events with personal acquaintances at the time and never wanted to testify at his confirmation hearing but was pressured to do so after her FBI interview was leaked. Multiple other witnesses to the harassment existed but werenât called to testify. She passed a polygraph test (Thomas refused to take one). And so on.
