These stairs used to be carpeted. You can see the full build of the stair conversion here https://imgur.com/gallery/zKgD2

The handrail was stained Minwax Ebony (two coats) to match the treads/landings. It was given one coat of Minwax Satin polyurethaned which will be fine. Handrails don't take "abuse". To stain/poly it I removed it, put the screws back into the bottom, tied string around the screws and hung it upside down from joists in the basement so I could have access to all sides at once.

The green wall color is Venom by Behr. The gray wall color is Graceful Gray by Behr.

Another angle.

This is the top landing. I'm waiting to redo the top riser and landing tread (where the carpet is) for when I redo the flooring in the carpeted hallway.

Doggo has to try and get in all the photos.

Looming down from the top landing.

This is the aforementioned carpeted hallway. The next project.

A quick reminder of what this looked like from the start.

Great job. Nice attention to detail. Looking forward to see more.

What year was your house built?

Nice job! DIY home improvement can be tough, but the feeling of accomplishment at the end makes it worth it. Keep going!

I feel like that first step would kill me every time. It just feels so awkwardly placed.

Maybe if one of the sides was pressed up against the wall it'd look better, like the second landing, but it just makes me uncomfortable

I agree - it looks like there should be a wall at the the very end or something. Otherwise, what's the point of another landing?

The bottom landing is headroom to the stairwell that leads to the basement. It's an old house.

looks awesome, but you are going to hate the black steps, they wont stay nice and black.

Other than showing dust/dirt how will they not stay black? There are three coats of polyurethane on top.

he prolly meant that the paint will fade as the sun shines on it and you step on it more and more.
