I did a thing too!

Nov 6, 2015 4:38 AM

First I made a grid system on the entire wall. This was the fun part.

The next part, not so fun, was taping all of the 90 or so hexagons. This took quite some time.

All taped up and ready to paint!

Hexagon exterior painted.

Hexagons were painted a lighter blue the further down the wall they were. I think I used five different shades. Much more visable irl.

I also had to paint the empty space left over from the paint tape (saved a lot of money compared to painting the whole wall grey)

Finished Product! Now, to the other three walls!!

For the other walls I went with a stencil. Saved a lot of time, even if some of the hexagons were a little misshapen or out of line. For the most part checking alignment every six hexagons or so kept the pattern pretty darn aligned.

And DONE! Took four weekends. Loved every second of it! My inspiration comes from a few different DoItYourselfers who did similar projects, including a Reddit post quite some time ago. Shout out to them!

Now come do mine. Awesome job op

I absolutely love diy projects like this. This is one of the coolest paint jobs ever. +1 for me stealing it for my house

Good job for creating wallpaper you could have just purchased. Time is money.

The tabletop gamer in me wants to play a sea combat game on your wall, with the darkness level representing the depth of the sea.

I can't imagine what could possibly motivate me enough to have the patience for this.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't EVER do acid in that room.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have to say, the white and gold look really great in that first picture

I kinda feel like I should just post pictures of an empty room and have you guys tell me how to fix shit and how to decorate it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neat

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wow this looks amazing! Though, if I were a bee, it would probably look even better. Nice job, OP!

As a bee, it looks pretty nice. Thanks!

Is your house a Tardis ?

It's bigger on the inside, like my butt. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I'd hate looking at it and knowing where every tiny imperfection is.

'Tis the curse of DIY

One of the many reasons I don't want kids...

And to think of all the things in life you will fail to create, simply for fear of the flaws.

I painted a chevron wall in my current room and all I ever see is the spot where the paint bled and where my angles messed up at the corner

No, that's me. Under your bed.

Sweet Mother, sweet Mother, send your child unto me, for the sins of the unworthy must be baptised in blood and fear.

Remember, sometimes a tiny bit of imperfection is good. It gives a little energy and life to it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

At the risk of getting downvoted... Am I the only one who thinks this is... ugly?

10 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 9

I probably would have only done it on one wall as an accent wall. And I wouldn't have picked those colors. Impressed with the quality though

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I think I could handle it on one wall, but probably not all four.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It looks like the inside of the tardis in the 70s

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I love the pattern and style but i would choose a more subtle contrast and warmer, more soothing colours.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I personally wouldn't like it for my house, but I can appreciate the massive amount of effort put in to it :)

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

I kind of like it, especially the first wall, but I can see how it would be annoying.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't want it on my walls but it is VERY neat

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's interesting to look at for a bit, but I wouldn't want it in my home. It's easily painted over though, so why not try it.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Probably not! More so than anything this was just to see what I could do. I enjoy painting, and this was more of an experiment for me.

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I personally love it, but I'm also a nerd that will pass down fuckups, sports, and nerdism to his children. Hex walls are beautiful

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the craftsmanship is amazing though. as is the mathematics and patience behind it!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I could do it again (which I may!) I'd do a lot of things different.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Care to elaborate? I am intrigued!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In terms of balance/noise, artistically speaking, there is wayyy too much going on here. Next time around I'd try to keep the clutter down.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In terms of quality of work, I learned a lot from this project and could do it a lot faster and a lot better if I did it again.
