Equivalent here (B.C. Canada) is US$5.73/gallon. Price has gone up 30% in the last 2 weeks
CrocoSphinx
$5.37 down the road from me.

I currently have an EV (2025). Car before was a Camry Hybrid (2011), Geo Metro (1996). I once drove from Maryland to West Palm Beach, FL in 1998 in my Geo Metro and it cost me $30 in gas.

The oil companies are great. Yeah. /s

Canuck here. 18.679 Gallons is about 85 Litres. I passed a station this morning that was charging $1.79 per litre. That'd be just over $150 CDN or $109 USD for 85 Litres.
SomeDetroitGuy
Drove by this yesterday. So glad I drive an EV.

Are we winning?

Just went out and returned from grocery store.Every station here went to $4.19 this morning. Next outing will be by bike!
wejustdontknow
3.79 in Missouri.

Literally the most I've ever paid to fill up. Usually it's like 30-35
Sludgesoda
Five+ a gallon where I live. Also since I live at a highway/interstate crossroads all the stations are trying to gouge the truckers, so diesel has jumped way more, up to 7-8 a gallon IIRC.
Guisso14
Im paying 1.80 a L. I would love these prices
FeloniousMonk13
The fickin diesel is over $5 here in FL, im rofl'n even more at the idiots w the f350s now lololll

$5.50 - $6.00 per gallon here. More if you drive over the bridge to San Francisco.

WOW... We europeans, who has nothing to do with his fucking war, pays the equivalent of 10.5 dollars, incl. taxes for a gallon of diesel.

What is the average Eurpoean commute? Bet it's a lot less than a US one... I use an electric bike for mine
RoboUnicornFishBalls
£1.369 per litre of diesel currently.

However, I heard an announcement that it will change drastically over the next few days.
My fill-up is 8.53 US Gallons.

And to think. We've had electric cars for 25+ years.
dohcohv
We've had electric cars for over 100 years. We've had good(competitive) electric cars 114+ years ago and the last 10 years, sort of.
Steam and electric cars are older than internal combustion(IC) cars. IC cars stuck around because they were cheaper than either. Once the electric starter was implemented, it was over for electric and steam cars. It hasn't been until recently that electric has become competitive again thanks to advancements in computer controls and manufacturing improvements.
Sherpafish
Yes. 25+.... I should have prefaced that with 'modern' or 'reliable'. Of course you are correct, electric is the older technology in cars, it just didn't get as developed because when gas is cheap, energy density wins out.
dohcohv
It was more a limitation of our tech in general than gas just being cheaper. Lead acid batteries, brushed motors, and relays/contactors were in the first EVs but to get any more advanced to say brushless motors, computer controls and lithium ion was impossible for decades.
You can finish, machine and hone an engine casting pretty easy, and in a normal factory. Trying to build lithium ion batteries or computer chips outside a clean room will just result in fires.
dohcohv
I say this as someone who owns a Chevy Bolt and works at a factory that makes lithium ion batteries for cars. My Bolt has some limitations and doesn't charge fast because it's a second generation "modern" EV where it takes an hour to go from 10-80%. The Leaf and the roadster are first gen. Nissan lost money on every leaf they sold, and it's not even that good, the range was short(the new ones are much better) and the charge speed was pathetic.
AllSeeingAvalin
And? The first gas powerd cars were shit getting only 2 - 4 mpg, had almost no power, and were obscenely expensive and deadly. The only reason they got better was because they were easier to build and improve than batter powered cars of the time.
But now that tech has improved to the point that gas and electric are basically identical in terms of cost and power theres is no excuse for people to not support the betterment of evs other than nostalgia
dohcohv
My two comments were related to electric car development over the last 100+ years. EVs had the lead initially but were held back not because we didn't develop them, but because the next steps were much harder.
Only until about 10 years ago did they become competitive on performance and range again, and even less time on cost. Car companies have been putting money into electric and hybrid vehicles for decades, the first two gens of the Prius were sold at a loss to keep people interested.
dohcohv
It was a good plan, which is why Toyota leads in hybrid cars. Some companies saw the future for EVs and developed them. GM built the EV-1s as R&D vehicles to get real world testing, but it suffered from a short battery life of 3 years.
That doesn't take away that for a long time they made little sense because the tech just wasn't attainable.
Today, for new cars, I can't see a reason to get a gas powered vehicle. They cost so much more to operate and are worse to drive every day.
