My dad would move the VCR from his room to the living room whenever we rented videos so we could record them while watching them. Most of the movies we owned were recorded this way or off TV.

I still have a Trinitron. Best retro gaming TV you could ask for.

I had a tiny CRT TV in my room as a teen. I got in trouble a lot for things that still don’t make sense to me as an adult. My dad took my tv as a punishment. He had a big 50 inch CRT in his room. It probably weighed a bulky 240 lbs. while he was gone, I moved it into my room with the help of 2 friends. Made me happy to see him struggle to lift it and finally give up. I wasn’t going to help him and I kept it in my room over a week until my uncle helped him move it back.

Those TVs kept us strong. The thinner TVs got the bigger we became. #bringbackfattvs

It’s backwards, they were heavy but had really great handgrips

My dad dropped the tv once. He immediately bought a new one. I think he just didn't want to admit to any repairman that he dropped his tv

I got that tv in the attic, it is as heavy as it looks

It’s the lead infused into the glass front to shield the radiation hitting the screen from behind. According to my EE101 instructor.

Did anyone else have a little portable one? A very Aussie sentence is coming up here - mum and dad used to bring it outside so we could watch the cricket while we played outside.

Even got the brand right. I had a Sony like that, damn, it was gym style workout to move that thing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had a 32” Sony Trinitron….it took two people to move and the bottom would cut into your hands😕

Bought a 55 inch TV about 3 years ago. Almost threw it into the ceiling when I picked it up because I thought it would weigh SOMETHING.

Dad had a 65" rear projection TV that stayed in the basement when he sold the house. Your problem now.

Just picked up a Trinitron that was bound for the dump, and holy hell those things are ten times heavier then they look.

Recently got a 36" Philips CRT television for my old consoles. Holy crap do I not miss moving those around

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dropped a 35 inch on my foot. Black and blue but nothing broke. Let's just say it hurt.

In 2005 while moving I wrecked my back picking up a 36" CRT Sony Trinitron. Haven't been right since.

I remember going to a LAN with a 22 inch CRT monitor during winter (Northern Sweden), we packed it in a blanket, put a plastic bag over that, then another blanket and wrapped it all in plastic sheeting. Then carried it out and put it on a sled that we pulled for several blocks to my friends house because none of our parents were home so no car avalible. Then we did the same thing for the other 4 friends that were comming as well. Worth it.

2 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

No, my house was a Toshiba home!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s a Sony Trinitron, was actually one of the best tv’s of its time if I remember correctly

From circuit city

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can still smell it turning on

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we wasn't rich.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They all became the same grey box just before LCDs kicked them to the curb.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At least once through the 90s...

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yes. And he is carrying it wrong. You need to grab it from the front and then there were 2 flat handles on either side. It was a pain, though.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had a 32" wide-screen Sony that looked a lot like that, heavy as hell, somewhere around 70kg I think

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the very first flat screen I bought was a plasma in 2008 that is like 15x heavier than any cathode ray tube television. it was installed in a room on the second floor. It sits in the closet of that room bc I can’t carry it downstairs. Too heavy. Still works. Is this Craig’s list? Free to anyone who can safely carry it down stairs and out of my house.

Omfg. Sony wega true flat. Filled with lead cause that motherfucker is 90lbs.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thing with the Sony flat tubes was they were rumoured to have a screen twice the thickness of other brands. We had a 32" flat tube model with a metal chassis that was 100kg in the shop I worked in at uni

as a delivery driver I moved those big ass wood cabinet big screen tv's for Rent-a Center (worst job ever by the way).

2 years ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 0

Do you still want your MTV?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm surprised they used ass wood, it's very rare and expensive.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? Your mom doesn't seem to have any problems getting ass wood.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well she is very nice, and people like to give expensive presents to her.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bet your back still hurts

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I'd have to pull them up 3 flights of stairs. That wasn't even the worst part of the job!

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The eventual repo in 4-6 months.
God rent a center is such a scam, my mom used them back when I was a kid

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I calculated that a $200 VCR would cost $1400 if rented to term.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Try moving one in the '70s.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

we had one similer to that and yes as heavy as it looked. dad took a sledge hammer to it when it came time to replace it rather then lift it out of the room

This doesn't count - because those things were immovable. Back then, the house would just be built around it, rather than trying to bring it into a house, you see.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is true. These grew in the wild, and entire neighborhoods were planned around the console TV fields.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are nearly extinct in the wild now, I hear.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That they are. Remaining survivors must be protected at all costs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Horror movie: The survivors are MAD. And. They. Won't. DIE.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like his first rodeo, they're heaviest up front because of the thickness of the glass. Best to grab them screen against your belly, checking you ain't got a belt buckle on that will scratch them up.

2 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 0

You rest the bottom on the belt buckle, helps distribute the weight to your hips

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I assure you, even if I had a belt buckle, my belly would protect anything and everything from it.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I see you’ve played knifey-spoony before.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the way.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the way.
I carried a 36” Sony Trinitron tube TV in an out of three different apartments. Thing was built like a tank. Probably why I creak when I walk and grunt when I stand up these days.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Correct

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My dad had a TV repair shop (still does lol) and the early 2000s were the worst with the "flat screen CRTs" which had a thick lens at the front to make them look flat. and everyone tried to grab TVs the wrong way. now in LCD era, they press their fat fingers against the panel and crack it......

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Plasma is the best of both worlds, heavy, expensive, and fragile!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sony Trinitron flatscreen those where heavy af with those you not only had to worry about crushing you fingers but also the object you where placing it on

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. Had a 32 inch one that was heavy af. IIRC it was in the neoghborhood of 250 pounds. We dropped it trying to get it into a tight squeeze cabinet and it put a dent in the floor.
