I really really wanted to like this movie when it was released and I still give it a chance every few years when I see it on TV, still ain’t any good though.
I loved the version of Mina Harker in the film. https://youtu.be/KBybuhDN-0k?si=bVem">6JLYV">https://youtu.be/KBybuhDN-0k?si=bVemsCo3lVB6JLYV -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv6wh2R8l8c
He was quoted something like "I was offered The Matrix and I didn't understand it so I turned it down. I was offered LoTR and I didn't understand it so I turned it down. I don't understand this, but dammit I'm not going to turn it down."
It also didn't have nuclear submarines, hulking man-beasts, vampires, invisible men, and ageless invulnerable fops. I'm not sure that roads and cars are a bigger leap than any of those. Also, Venice absolutely has footpaths wide enough for a car. People don't just gondola everywhere, they walk across the Rialto bridge and wander St Mark's Square.
Hmmm.... doable. That one has dual front axle steering and gets a turning circle of 17 meters at 7 meters length. OTOH, the rear axle is much closer to the front axles than in Nemo's car, and it does have power steering.
Close. "TPZ Fuchs" of the german army. So an armoured personnel carrier. This version should be the 12.8l V8 with 320hp, there is another with close to 500hp. Neat trick here is you can take the engine out and run it outside the vehicle, for field maintenance. Source: am ex tank driver of the german army. While this was not my vehicle of transport but the M113, some things stuck.
Not only Germany - I was surprised to read in the Wikipedia article (when I searched for a picture) that the US used it as M93A1 Fox, also in Desert Storm. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuc">er)#">https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuchs_(Panzer)# and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TPz_Fuchs
They would have to, which wouldn't really work without really powerful power steering (rather unlikely in the 19th century, to say the least). Usually in a powerful RWD vehicle you want the extra tire in the back; if I'm not mistaken, a lot of vehicles (dump trucks, for instance) do this. You would want to drive all four rear wheels for a vehicle like this. How they made an engine powerful enough to be traction limited back then is basically magic, but so is everything else in the film.
nonickname23
That movie has so much potential, and was such a let down. Remake that and leave good movies alone.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
I know the movie was dumb, but FUCK do I still love it. Such good memories.
KilroyLichking
one could say it drives like a submarine
DVSBSTrD
@OP It's not a car, its an "auto-mo-beel". Nemo said so.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
Not a car. Au-To-Mo-Bile.
DannyJammy
This car still fkn slaps, best car ever and more cars should look like this

Seems like a minivan would have been more efficient…

The movie that made Sean Connery give up acting.

I swear I saw this in Burlington, On last year!!
TheDaharMaster
Sean Connery ruined that movie.
justplainvanilla
No turn . Only straight .
shammael
Yup, not like that distribution had ever been used in real life...
badbmc
Unless of course, it steers from the rear. Probably not I just thought I'd mention it.
CheeseborgarSoop
It would turn like a boat, but it would turn.
ME2BNS12
Well, the front set of wheels all visibly turn in the first 30 seconds of the movie you can see the car. But not by much...
mccar7hy
How many gallons to the mile?
triassictango
Can I point out how ridiculous this car chase was, since they were in 19th century Venice, which doesn’t have 1. cars or 2. roads.
SadsPikkelson

It’s a nice car, though.
DVSBSTrD
Dude, the Nautalus ran on nuclear power. And they did have cars in 1899. Sure you still had to wind them up, but they existed.
onlyhalfghost
actually they mostly ran on batteries; the electric car predates the internal combustion engine
petety
I heard that the actual car cannot turn.
CraftyGiant
That is false.
Inianquen
Had to park on the lawn because it's too long to park anywhere else.

The original "The Homer"
Velina
does it have to have rear wheel turn?
JupiterMiningCorpRep
Not necessarily, if both front axles can steer it should be fine
CraftyGiant
They can.

League of Overcompensating Gentlemen?

I mean, it definitely is a sausagefest.
ScienceIsNotALiberalConspiracy
Reminds me of Donald Trump; it's a poor person's idea of what a rich person would design for a car.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
Except I would totally drive this over a Cybertruck.
discotheque42
The production design of that movie was far better than the writing.
DVSBSTrD
Except for Mr Hyde.
discotheque42
Bravo, Edward!
Illinifan88
Yea, it certainly isn't a masterpiece, but I think it's more fun than it gets credit for. I wish they'd give it another go at some point.
OliverOtter
There's definitely worse out there. So much worse. But it sucked. It deserved to be much, much better than it was.
brassmule
Sean Connery turned down LotR, regretted that decision, and did LoEG to get in on the fantasy train. Whoopsies.
patta8388
And I'm sure everyone is pretty happy about that...

He fucking retired afterwords saying he "clearly doesn't understand what Hollywood had become"

Didn't exactly catch on though, did it...
drspangle
I think it got banned because it gave extra traction while turning

Most probably yes
ArcUlfr
Why anyone would put 2 axles in the front I have no idea. Put the extra axle in the back like a sensible person.
badbmc
Or have it steer from the rear.
ArcUlfr
LOL no. You do not want to turn the steering wheel and have the ass end of your car fly out sideways.
badbmc
You call it a safety hazard. I call it a fun feature.
Carr0t
Maybe both front axles steer?
