Now that is what a proper leader does

Husband is 3/4 Caucasian and 1/4 Filipino. But he's in the US military, and he can't donate or he'd be downed from flying his plane.

I thought stem cells had the ability to become any type of cell. What can't it become Filipino? Srsly tho, didn't know it made a difference.

Similar to Join.bethematch.org in the US I think international firms search our registry for matches too through partnerships.

Love seeing stories from my hometown on Imgur. Fun fact: Winnipeg has the highest population of Filipinos outside the Philippines

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sent to 2 people I know.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1/2 white & 1/2 Filipino? That’s like 1/8 of the Las Vegas valley.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My son is due in 11 weeks, he will be half Filipino and half Caucasian, and we could be able to get the umbilical cord STEM cells...

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh man....look at his little smile.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go the the Philippines and seek out half-Caucasian people.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I shared it! I hope they find a donor so he can have the pleasure of eating plenty of chicken adobo and poutine.

Since they're asking for a stem cell donor, probably cancer. Damn... so young.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Huh. My gf is exactly that mix. Screenshot forwarded...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's about ready to leave for Boston to find a match, turns out my daughter is only 1/4

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm white and I know a Filipino guy, how long this baby got?

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Total stupid about this stuff: is it super important that donors be exact ethnic matches for stem cells?!?!

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

What if you mix Caucasian and Filipino blood together

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I do appreciate you thinking outside the box.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Half white/filipino here. Looks like USA and Canada registry might be linked. Signed up to get a swab, hope something good happens!

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I'm not familiar with how stem cells work, why does it have to be a specific ethnicity?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tried to sign up anyway. Apprently 35 is the age cutoff limit. That sucks.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t miss those nose hose cheek stickers. My twins were in NICU for two months. Not fun times.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hear you. My kid was in for 14 weeks. Pure nightmare fuel

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Genuinely curious, is there a specific reason it has to be an "ethnically diverse" donor?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Higher chances of matching

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But couldn't they test anyone to try find a match?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if @missfilipina has met any?

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Have not.. :(

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Well it was worth a hope <3 Keep up the good work chica!

Daughter signed up, waiting on spit kit

5 years ago | Likes 332 Dislikes 0

Amazing!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have to have a Canadian address ?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So, they don't let you get tested for any one case. They don't tell you to until after procedure who you helped and turns out she 1/4 fili

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I look forward to her post.

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Tldr, what’s all involved?

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You spit in a kit and they tell you if you're a close enough match to donate.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Swab the inside of your cheeks and you’re put into the donor registry. Could get a call at any time if you match someone in need

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The unfortunate part is part of my extended family meets that description but not being near Canada at all makes things difficult.

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

But not impossible! They'll fly that stuff around the world no problem.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stem cell donor registries are internationally linked, so signing up in your country could potentially help!

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Well...i think FedEx ships time critical things like organs so stem cell cells maybe as well...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maybe there’s something set up where they can help get them there?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I'll definitely shoot the article over to them at the very least.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems a rare combo. If they are able, I’m sure the family would buy a plane ticket.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am 3/4 white, 1/4 filipino but am not a Canadian citizen and the registry requires a Canadian postal code.

5 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 1

You could try calling or emailing the registry and see if there is a work-around.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Registries are internationally linked so if it interests you, I would register in your country!

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

If you are capable of donating, consider registering in your own country. Willing to bet they need ethnically diverse donors as well.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Try V7E 4Y5. It’s should be a postal code for somewhere in BC

send me your blood and I'll forward it along. no questions asked (i hope)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try your country’s site? I’d hope they cross check. bethem">ch.org">bethematch.org & giftoflife.org if you’re in the US

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Registered at giftoflife.org

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there some sort of contact info on the website? If there is it may be worth sending a message.

5 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

THIS

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You shouldnt need to be Canadian for this, if your interested i suggest you give a call.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

H0H 0H0 might work? Otherwise look up a public building?

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

If they're trying to mail out a generic sampling collection kit, a fake address defeats the purpose.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If they needed to mail something else yea, but just for registering it might be okay?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1HOH and 0HO is just 1H20 and no hydroxide

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those are Zeros, not Os

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OH

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As if that makes more sense. HzeroH is gibberish so i sensiblized it as good as i could.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its a Canadian Postal code, they're all alternating letters and numbers six digits long, in two segments of three.
