Maybe they wouldn't be ramming boats if we treated them more like friends and didn't trash their home.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna teach the orcas to ram more boats. TRY and stop me!

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Let's design whale helmets so they can ram extra hard

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TLDR. Fuck you. Do you speak orca? Then STFU.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Says a guy named after the ass end of a boat.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I am for orcas and against yacht owners.

Fuck them rich folks

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah... fuck the yachts.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Look up the dudes picture. He literally looks like if a yacht was a person. Or better yet, if the DESIRE to have a yacht was made into a person.

“Won’t someone please think about the yacht owners?”

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm waiting for the internet sleuths to track back the movement of the pod to the boat which started all this

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is technology that can do that. Listen to "eye in the sky" episode of radiolab.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck those boats, fuck Jacob Stern and The Atlantic

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I see someone who owns a boat.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Oh no, a ‘The Atlantic’ writer thinks he’s edgy.. Anyway.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna root ever harder now.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's funny that his last name is Stern. Literally a part of the boat that the orcas are attacking. lol

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

working people fix boats. the orcas are friends to the people

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

As is so often the case, the rich people aren't the real job creators in this scenario.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

they never were. they just been really good at convincing people otherwise.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He hates them so he says they are not our friends, but at the same time he seems to like them - calling them killer

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The same Atlantic who had a whole feature about "the new anarchism" where they presented hate crimes by the far right as if they had been committed by good ol' leftist anarchists? Surely they have higher standards than this..!

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Atlantic is definitely a centrist rag. For every article that's like "MLK's death was corrupted by those in power to keep holding power" 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We get an opinion piece by some rich white dude that's like "Rich people aren't as tasty as you're being told." 2/2

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I've noticed the same. Recommendations for a Canadian who likes to keep up with things like The Atlantic and The New Yorker?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Atlantic vastly underestimates my cooking abilities

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You said to the Free Willy generation

2 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 1

I was a little kid and I live in Oregon. He was at the Oregon Coast aquarium and my dad promised we'd see him before he got set free. He failed on his promise. Then Keiko died. I even had a stuffed animal of Keiko. Free willy! Such a tragedy.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And before that, Shamu

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The orcas have every right to defend their home from invaders.

2 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 4

Stand your ocean

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

fuck, if we could communicate with them, I'd be supplying them weapons and helping them form their own nation.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

aren't they kind of dicks to other sea creatures? arming them may be unwise.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Humans are dicks to other creatures and we arm them. That is also unwise so you have a point.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Let's try. Come on, let's do it. You and me.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We gotta give the orcas torpedos

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree. However, I fear for them because it’s only a matter of time until some jackass starts shooting at them.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My guess is dynamite, bullets don't travel that far when firing in to water.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not if they sink and eat the fuckwad first.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

While we agree on the revenge fantasy, we also know the human response to that. And the animal ultimately never wins.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

True, I'd go help them if I could, but I'm currently being held hostage by humans.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna root for them.

2 years ago | Likes 635 Dislikes 9

I’m just doing it harder now

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

Dozens of us. Dozens.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm headed to Australia and apparently rooting for Orcas isn't cheering for them over there.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I don't see a problem as long as you're rooting FOR orcas and not just rooting them.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Am I ever gonna see their face again?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Orcas are definitely more my friends than ANY yacht owning millionaire/billionaire.

2 years ago | Likes 1997 Dislikes 20

Orcas are just livin their life. Yatch-people actively want my money and work to try and get it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

2 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 1

Maxim 29. The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more. No less. { I'm rooting for the Orcas, but I don't think the orcas can tell a poor person from a rich one. So I won't be going swimming in waters where Orcas rule. And I'm also sad BC I'm afraid that the rich ppl who own the yachts will probably start hunting them illegaly due to them damaging the yachts :'( }

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Agreed! Fuck your yachts!

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

The tears of the rich are sustenance to thee Orcas

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is it wrong that I’m rooting for the orcas over the millionaire/billionaires? ?1

2 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2

Except they aren't attacking millionaire/billionaires, not even close. Attacks are on $50k floating houses, not mega-yachts. You are cheering for the destruction of poor people's homes and/or livelihoods

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Nope. You're on the correct side of history.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No not at all, but unfortunately it's quite common for us humans to kill wild life that damages human property and/or threathens us or our offspring. It's basically our default reaction. Unless some biologist quickly comes up with a way to get the Orcas to stop attacking the yacts, it won't be more than a few years before we start seeing dead, most likely explosion damaged Orca carcasses start to wash ashore after some rich fuck pays someone to throw dynamite at them :(

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not in the slightest

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Just because someone’s on a boat, means they are rich? And just because they are rich means they are evil? What the heck is wrong with you?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

If they've saved money through the years AND found interest in the freedom of sailing (thus far more affordable and interesting vacations), they obviously must be evil. So says the internet

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. Nothing more, nothing less.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Maxim 29

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so you do realize that the "yachts" being attacked are small 30 to 45 ft sailboats owned by hobby sailors, these boats are barely even worth 80k when they are sold for the 2nd time which is where most people buy them, the term "yacht" is a general term rather than specifically describing boats bigger than 45 ft, which is often what the millionaires own! You know, the boats they can't sail and need a dedicated crew to maintain, while they sit around in luxury

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

rich people bad =/= fuck all boat owners

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This individual fornicates

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"You are closer to being an orca than ever being a billionaire." Honestly, might still be a true statement.

2 years ago | Likes 284 Dislikes 2

That's because if I had 490M I would start funding the science to fully transition. It's what humans crave

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, not a millionaire though

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 9

...yet. keep boot-strappin! /S

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit. We'll have millionaires who can't buy property soon.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

In 30 years there will be millionaires who can't afford to retire.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's like now though. Im aiming for 50k/year for 20 years. Thats 1 million. It will be tight as I currently make twice as much

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are far less of a threat to humans for sure

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone is finally going to eat the rich.

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is 10,000 times greater than the difference between a millionaire and an average American.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Actually, the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is only a 1,000 times

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Average Net wealth of ppl under 35 is somewhere between 18k-76k based on the numbers from the first few google searches. So roughly 1.8-7.6% of a fresh millionaire. Average millionaire is at 2.2 million. The top 500 billionaires have average wealth of 15.5 billion. So an average millionaire is 29x richer then the average young, and the 20th percentile of billionaires is 6863x richer then that. I had to go back and triple check my numbers.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To a poor mental patient these numbers read like arcane magic and I'm only alive due to the goodwill of mages and archmages who in turn 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bow to a power so incomprehensible to me that it could be the sun, moon and the earth at the same time and I'd be none the wiser. 2/2

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're attacking small sailing yachts, smashing their rudders up, not massive motor boats. My Dad built several yachts like the ones being attacked and we had fuck all money.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Thats because you owned a boat. You would have had money if it weren't for the biggest money pit of all time, boat ownership

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Haha shit you're right!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I get what you're saying, but honestly the size of a yacht owned by a millionaire, especially a billionaire is very unlikely to be affected by the biggest group of orcas. As smart as they are, ain't no orcas gonna flip a small cruise liner or cargo ship.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Certainly, but the majority of us aren't even close to being a millionaire. My boat cost me $5000ish, and serves my family well

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

P-P-P-PREACH!!!!!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Except the orcas aren't ramming billionaire's yachts, they're ramming thousandaire's sailboats. Like I get it we hate the oligarchs but that's not who is getting attacked here. Boats are not only owned by billionaires.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

In case that gif was meant to express confusion, the author's name is Stern, which is also a boating-related term.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"But what about rich people's yachts?" - Literally this fucktard

2 years ago | Likes 814 Dislikes 20

I mean, on one hand, it's troublesome that whales are attacking boats, and on the other hand, this behaviour has emerged because of how people that own yachts exploit the ecosystem... so fuck that dudes yacht.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

It ain't always rich people https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InoZ7xJJ1Bs

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

His name is Stern. He’s obviously biased towards boats.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

"fuck em" - literally the only correct answer]

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was going to argue that you don’t need to be rich to own a small sailing yacht, but then I thought to ask my gf who grew up sailing with her grandfather. Turns out, yeah you kinda do need to be rich. Just renting a slip for the boat is stupid expensive.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

The bigger problem is that they're hitting boats that people use to make a living, tours and whatnot. Also, some people around me have sailboats on trailers and whatnot. Sure, boat owners are higher income, but not that high, especially if it's their main hobby.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Aren't most of the ships that have been hit fishing boats?

I doubt a 40ft sailing yacht is one of those super evil rich people. It's about 30 feet to short at minimum.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 54

You get a grander at the douchebag that wrote it?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

40ft yachts are $100k minimum, with $10-20k/yr upkeep plus mooring fees of $500-3000k/mo. A good one is $250k, a nice one is $400k+. This is upper class shit in every way.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

About the same as a big RV. Upper class doesn’t mean evil CEO overlord

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 34

Just take the L and go away.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Big RV's are like $30k and MUCH cheaper than a fucking yacht

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

no, about the same as THE biggest and MOST luxurious RV. and while this is the literal entry level boat. lick that boot harder, shill.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

I think people dying out at sea is a bad thing, actually.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 70

I don’t.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

people, sure. multimillion and billaionares? nope. infact, them dying at a greater rate is a net gain for humanity and the planet at large.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ya well ppl hit deer all the time and you aren't crying about it. The amount of animals harmed or killed by human vehicles on land or sea far exceeds any harm done to humans. So suck it up. We don't hate on animals for being animals, especially when they are in their territory doing their own thing. You don't blame a bear attacking a hiker in the wild. You afraid of orcas? Don't go in the ocean. No reason for you to be there. Save your concern for the number of humans killed by other humans.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think people hitting deer is a bad thing too. I would blame a bear for attacking a human. Humans have as much right to be in the ocean as any other animal does. Humans aren't special.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

A) when they are asshole billionaires, I think it's a great thing. B) orcas aren't killing people, they are playing with the boats, and the boats can't handle the pressure of their fast-paced play!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Name a single person who died? Wait it's no one? The orcas just ripped the rudders off the boats and no one died?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

This isn't a one-off event, its continuing to happen and could result in a ship sinking and people dying.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 17

Ok.. then maybe ban the boats from being in the area? It all started when a boat got a whale. That solves your problem.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gee, what a shame.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You gunna complain about snow on Everest, too? This is Nature satisfying the "Finding out" portion of Boat Ownership.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

snow is not sentient, so no.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Rich people ain't people. They do not think of us poors as people, so why should we think of them as people? Our suffering ends when they do

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 4

You do realize that the “hope they go after billionaires on yachts” was a joke, right? That’s not who was actually being attacked.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

rich people are people. Rich people aren't the only people on boats/yachts

No one has died, they all have radios. They get a tow.... "Breaking up boats". The rudders are being ripped off, no boats have been broken up and no one has died.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

They can take off in a helicopter from the helipad tho.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I thought you meant the Orcas and I had this very brief, life changing moment of "wait. They're THAT smart?"

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are you trying to make a joke? And it’s not landing well? Or are you genuinely more concerned about the human life loss due to marine aggression? Cause, like, if you’re not being sarcastic let me know.
