All I can think about is SPN

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

The film called 'cthulu' is a great adaption.

At first glance I thought "Why is George Bush holding a baby Cthulu?" It was then at looking at the other ones I figured it out.

Ah yes takes me back to the days of being cradled by the good Mr. Lovecraft.

I had a dream recently that reminded me of these types of stories.

For those that appreciate heavier music: Lovecraft-themed metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ke2HBiI6yk

Where's the Mi-go, amigo?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm like 95% sure #2 is supposed to be a mi-go....though i guess it could be a byakhee or something...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought it might, but I didn't think Mi-go could fly in Earth's atmosphere or something like that.

Why is there a murloc in there?

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Because murlocs were pretty much copied from the Deep Ones in Lovercraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn! Ph'nglui mrglgrlmrglgrlgrlmrglgrl!

#2 is definitely from "the whisperer in the darkness." One of my favorites. Makes me never want to visit Vermont country side

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's my favourite too. The way one of them wears the guy's skin is heavy.

It really is

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that dude was a big racist

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He was indeed. Died young, though, and was reportedly beginning to see the error of that mindset. I like to think that if he had lived (1)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then his writing would have reflected those changing views. Examples: Mark Twain and Herge

Most people at the time were racists because it was "normal" to be racist, it was considered weird if you weren't.

You can't fool me nylathrotep!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think Nyarlathotep is among the pictures...though with thousand forms, who knows.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

iirc doesn't nyarlathotep take the form of a tall lanky man to commune with man or some shit? Maybe I made that up

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, that's the form he took when dealing with Egyptians, but I think the most well known is:

I'm kind of sad this dude is so revered.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Say what you will about him as a person (believe me I get it), but don't base your opinions of his work on his character.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I always found his writing style kind of lazy. His early works were mostly exposition followed by him not describing things.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His writing is just so cheesy and muddled, I don't really understan why it's so loved. On top of that, he was a pretty shitty human being.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was very racist...although iirc he acknowledged that it was probably due to his severe social paranoia. Still racist, though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What black people described as monkeys and every handsom man having blue eyes and blond hair is racist now?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Orson Scott Card is incredibly homophobic, and yet people still love Ender's Game.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the person can be distinct from their work. I thought the original comment was about Lovecraft, not his work (seems I was wrong).

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, one of the plot twist reveals for his stories was that, in addition to the girl a guy marries being an undying Medusa, a girl was half

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Black. That she was half black was literally the final reveal, and was supposed to be the most horrifying.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do love most of his stories, just not the ones that portray black people as completely inhuman.
