Problem with the new one is that you have to watch and understand the first movie to understand what the movie is about

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The original is one of my favorite movies but I don't understand all the love for the new one... So boring... didn't need to be 3 hrs

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

It was perhaps a little drawn out, but so was the original - I've only seen the director's cut, and it's likewise very slow and 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 methodical. It's as much a cyberpunk/noir as it is an art film. Take the time to take it all in and enjoy the beautiful visuals.

Thanks for linking, just fixed the description. Much appreciated!

I was so syked to see this movie. Looking forward to dvd release to watch multiple times more.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Heard it was amazing, too bad it did not make that much money. Furthers Hollywood's determination to do formula driven stuff I am guessing.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's a good movie. Stream it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thankfully, Villeneuve keeps on putting out a masterpiece a year. No way people aren't gonna pay attention.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The original blade-runner was a mass flop in the cinema on release. Purely due to the cult like fan base that kept it going post release

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same thing with Big Lebowski and Idiocracy. I think it is kind of like music too, you may not like on first play as much as the tenth.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I still need to see this, missed it in the theater and the olbootybay only has shit copies.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 5

The DVD isn't out yet, so there will most likely be only shit copies until then

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's coming out next month. I haven't bought any movies to own for years now. That movie is worth owning

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

watch the first one first though, preferably read the book, too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The movie was great. I honestly feel that the movie deserves the support of being paid for rather than pirated.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

The only reason to watch it in IMAX is for sound. The film uses high dynamic range really well, never seen HDR in films this good.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Basically the exact opposite of Peter Jackson's garish, headache inducing shit show of post optimized bullshit. Fuck I hate those movies.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I definitely recommend you check it out!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm excited but its gotta be so visual I'm waiting for the blue ray derp.

Sicario and The Arrival and Blade Runner. This guy is doing Dune? Omg!

Yep. Also check out Prisoner.

Dune too?......didn't like the movies.....might check it out.

I loved the book in high school, re-read it earlier this year and was like "Huh... he can't write women very well at all"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Ok. Why are all the females in movie posters and such turned like that? Why can't they stand like everyone else?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because women standing normally, directly straight are just not sexy on a 2D screen. The actresses pose this way to accentuate curve line.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok sure, but why?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because sexism. Although in this one, that character is a sex bot holographic AI. Still no reason why every female always has to do it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

True.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh fuck off, that isn't sexism, women voluntarily to pose like this all the time. It's no different to how guys flex their arms for photos.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Consider the "Hawkeye Project", w/ male models/characters posed similarly as Joi. It's spine-twisting and a bit unrealistic.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Oh I forgot how the actors choose their pose themselves and how protection of power is the same as protection of sexiness.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it actually fun to watch? Or one of those "You just don't get it" kind of movies?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's slow paced like the original, with loads of eye candy. If you think the original is boring, don't watch the new one.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I honestly think Scott is only a 50% good director, so I only liked the original about 50%. Villeneuve is ridiculously good both artisticall

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AND technically, so he was able to lift great ideas to their full potential and add new depth. Much prefer his sequel to the original.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved it, but it’s definitely not for everyone - it’s slower paced and art-housey at times, but IMO it never gets boring.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Good to know. I don't mind slow paced if they're good movies (Moon is one that jumped into my mind). I'll check out Bladerunner.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, if you liked Moon, this one's a no brainer. The love for the craft and the creativity seeps through the screen in the same way.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i like it better than the first. it's prob the most interesting film i've seen this year. but you need to be in the mood to watch it

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I wanted to like it, but kept thinking how unnecessary the whole film was, especially bringing back Deckard.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

The film was meant to progress on the whole "what measure is a non-human?" theme that the first movie had. I think it did a fine job.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I'm fairly sure that Deckard was added partly for nostalgia points, but his character didn't feel forced in the context of the movie.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I think I just wanted it to expand on the mythos. Why tie it to the other film, do a separate story - the world can support it

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's what I don't get, how can you see the replicants as not human? We don't even eat dolphins or Chimps because they're too smart.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Replicants have a reputation for going crazy and killing people, which is why blade runners are even needed. They "retire" them before that.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Replicants weren't always so advanced, they were commonly used for cheap labor. The technology simply grew faster than society could accept.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In 2049, K was the latest model of replicant that was supposed to be completely safe to humans. Roy was an example of the previous model.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hands down the best sci-fi film of 2017.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best SF film of 1982, maybe....

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 18

Underselling it IMO, was a great sci-fi movie full stop. Great tribute to a classic which was always going to be a difficult act to follow.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 2

I see your comment and raise you Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

I missed that when it was in theaters and heard bad things about it. To be honest, I was disappointed that it wasn't live action.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's incredibly good, especially if you are a fan of the book and the original live action movie.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good to know. I was cautious from the general reception around it. I'll check it out when I get the chance.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All I heard was an hour and some more of over intensified SF cutting away half the dialogue.

Well marvel is aming for movies that are fun to watch. No development in the genre though..

Isn’t Star Wars Sci fi?

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 19

Yes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

There's nothing scientific about SW. Space is just the location where the fantasy takes place.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not really much science to it. Space Opera Futuristic Fantasy

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Star wars was a cringy fucking dunpsterfire, imho

Sci-fantasy.

Star Wars is fantasy. In space.

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 3

Yes, but the person said blade runner is better

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It is. Last Jedi was weak and riddled with plotholes.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 16

I both loved it and kinda didn’t love it

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I'll admit, while watching it I did not hate it. But thinking back, I hate it more than any other of its series.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

force awakens was still worse imo. Last jedi at least had an original story.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait, more than the prequels?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on what you call Sci Fi. Star Wars is more Science Fantasy, true Science Fiction doesn't have space wizards

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 5

True that

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Depends how specific you want to be. Star Wars is a Space Opera, technically. Bladerunner is Noir with a Sci-fi setting.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Star Wars is not "technically" a space opera, since there's no singing in it. It's called a space opera as a joke, because of the story.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Space operas are melodramas set in space. They have as little to do with an opera as Soaps do.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not all operas have singing. Such as soap operas

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_opera Space Opera has nothing to do with singing or music. It’s a play on the term Soap Opera.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Star Wars is both space op and sci fantasy. Pretty sure Bladerunner is cyberpunk.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The book Bladerunner was based on came out in 1968 before cyberpunk was a thing. It was more in the vein of Asmov's I, Robot series.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because of space wizards with laser swords I'll give you Sci-Fan, but that's not typically how it's categorized.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Denis mothafuxin Villeneuve

8 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 2

Hes like the Daniel Day Lewis of directing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't been more pumped about a movie as I am for Dune. I just know he's gonna do it justice. Probably setting myself up 4 disappointment

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

they're confirmed for another one?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very unlikely that he'll disappoint. With a repertoire like his, he gets a lot of creative control and he has proven that he only does

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

projects he can pull off.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might be the best director there is at the moment.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Yes, him and Nolan, so consistent the both of them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'd agree, but I would also put Villeneuve's consistency to marginally higher level.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He makes great movies out of mediocre screenplays.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Consistently creates incredible films

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Enemy underrated

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The best director out there. Consistently great movies. An amazing team around him (Deakins, Johanssonn/Zimmer) in every single one, and a

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I wonder if Deakins will get his Oscar this year?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering he's been snubbed for O Brother, Sicario, Arrival, and basically everything he's done, I sure as shit hope so.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

unique ability to always maximize a scene's potential dramatically, visually and aurally. He even has an uncanny ability to consistently

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

get acting performances of a career out of his actors, and he's proven himself in heavy dramas, hard sci-fi, thrillers, philosophical sci-fi

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

and basically every aspect of those. The bridge sequence in Sicario is probably the best directed action sequence of all time, and I've

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

never noticed him dropping the ball on as much as a single scene. He's ridiculously good, and has been so consistently.
