This is a three part documentary about future ponderings from scientists. Part one, ice world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0kzMmcTS8I Episode one on youtube. Part introduction, part focusing on earth 5 million years into the future where almost none of the animals as we know them are around but their predecessors look kind of like them. The earth in this time is experiencing another ice age here.

This isn't a mammal, it's a bird.

The ganet-whale. One of my favourites.

The shag rat

Giant rodents of the north. An exercise in postulating on what creatures would occupy the arctic. These theorized shaggy furred, small eared, pack animals can survive in temperatures as low as -50 degrees C.

This is the shag rat's biggest issue, the creatively named 'snowstalker'.

How to tell this was written by scientists: silly naming schemes CHECK.

This looks like a sabertoothed weasel relative.

The mediterranean salt basin.

Despite ice age, in this future world there are still warm areas on the planet. This is well documented theory, glacial coverage during any ice age has never been 100%. Even snowball earth folks argue between themselves as to whether or not there was a full 'ice' ball effect or if there was more of a slush ball earth or even a thin band of open waters around the equator.

An ice age world climate is extremely dry and thus, the mediterranean salt basin is thought up.

There's so much more and I'm terribly lazy, but you should watch this documentary. I saw it when I was like... 21 and it's been with me ever since.

This was great, I wish they would do more like it

Is this the show that explores possible future animals, like the squids that trapeze through the forest like monkeys?
