My cat will regularly bring socks, toys, plastic, and sometimes underwear, if she can find it, into our bedroom while meowing around it in her mouth. I make a point of occasionally getting up to praise and thank her for her good work in hunting.

If you don't praise that cat for a successful hunt, you're going to get a LIVE mouse presented to you next time. Or worse yet, like my mother, HALF A MOUSE on the doormat.

The live/wounded mouse thing is the cat trying to teach you to hunt. One of my girls (Best mouser I've owned) used to do that to my wife and I when we were using the toilet. She always looked so disappointed that we wouldn't pounce on the thing. She even started to drop them into the bathtub to make it easier for us to catch.
