If they find elephant bones up there, that would be hilarious.

Who had 'zombie legionnaires' on their 2026 bingo card?

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Hopefully they can see Italy in the WBC from up there. Reception should be solid that high up.

"Hiding 7,000 Feet High in the Sky". stupid stupid stupid. Should be 7,000 feet up a mountain.

Idc how underwhelming the photos may be, just show us something. Can’t believe it’s just a general shot of the mountain

Conn Iggulden’s ‘Emperor Series’ covers this is some depth. Nobody wanted to be posted there.

Nice story, thanks for posting. Excellent article. I'm a big Time Team fan. This would make a great documentary.

Great idea. I'm going to start telling that to my high school kids, "that situation would be good for the novel you'll write."

I hate those shitty "symbolic pictures" that are used to crappily illustrate this stuff. Here's a link to an actual photo of the site: https://www.gr.ch/DE/Medien/Mitteilungen/MMStaka/2024/PublishingImages/Foto_Colm_la_Runga_5_Foto_Andrea_Badrutt_Chur__w_1600__h_0.jpg

It's this spot here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/sJ1sVncUeMGuQBbT7

7000 ft sounds crazier than 2200 m above sea level. The picture in the article is probably from one of the nearby 3000m+ peaks like Piz Ela or something. The Romans did *not* camp on top of a barren peak. The Colm la Runga is still way within pasture grounds.

Really gotta wonder who you pissed off to get assigned to sit up on a fucking mountain.

At a guess it was probably some kind of elite unit, training at higher elevations increases cardiovascular efficiency.

It's why sports teams from mountainous areas tend to do better than they should.

I dunno, the area is beautiful, away from any front lines or political bullshit; as long as you were well-enough supplied, sounds legit.

For a career which derives so much of its pay from plunder and slaving a peaceful post has got to be a pretty crappy one

Legio IX Hispana, perhaps?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Weren't they in Brittain?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their slingstones identify them as belonging to legiones III and XII.

Poor guys. Who’s gonna break the news to them that Rome has fallen?

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It hasn't. There's still a camp up in the mountains.
