My son has asthma. He's 6. In elementary school the nurse has to keep their medicine not their teacher for whatever reason. Any way it happens my son needed his inhaler and the teacher wouldn't let him go get it. When I picked him up from school he looked really pale and he started crying and saying he couldn't breathe well. What the fuck apparently he couldn't go to the nurse because he asked too many times the other day? Maybe let him go. So he skips learning about what things are purple I'm sure we could help him out if he lives.

Oh hale no.

In middle school, a friend of mine has diabetes and had to go take his insulin but the the sub thought he was lying and he passed out.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

I would take that to the school board and threaten to sue for endangering his life.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Contact the principal and BOE, start throwing around words like child endangerment because that's what it is.

9 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 5

In my experience, many people have little respect for asthma as a disease. They don't understand you're not out of breath, you can't breathe

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

Might want to look into getting a 504 plan if this becomes a recurring issue. Then you can sue the school if they don't follow it.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Go give her boss a fuckin earful or her it's your kid who got hurt but that cunts stupidity I'd be fucking irate

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

He may be a good example of purple before he gets his inhaler.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

Get a lawyer and sue the the fucking school. That is child abuse.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I once had a teacher who did the whole "put your hand up if you want to ask a question", I'd put my hand up, then he'd say "put your hand --

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

--down" shit. This happened for an hour until I started spitting blood because my wobbly tooth had been ripped out. Power hungry dickhead

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tell him next time he just gets up and go to the nurse. don't ask. it's a life threatening problem. fuck the teacher.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

File a child endangerment? case, dunno the specific term, turn the tables around and teach them a lesson

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Raise hell OP! This scares me so much. My boy is only 13 mths but is asthmatic and has allergies (EpiPen). I'm terrified of that situation.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

I would go to the principal, it is not the teacher's place to make medical judgement, if the child says he needs his inhaler then they 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

2/2 Damn well better let him go get it. That is serious lawsuit area right there.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

As someone who has spent her whole life aspiring to be a teacher, these kinds of stories break my heart. Can't wait to have my own school.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Some teachers just SUCK. My son had diarrhea and she refused to let him not only go to the bathroom, but even the nurse. He went anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

I raised hell when I had to come get him bc he pooped his pants. It was t even life threatening! Call the principal. This is BS.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Poor kid. That happened to me in first grade and I've never forgotten it. I'm 36.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

it's even better when you grow up with diabetes and they can't stop you from using the bathroom, that really upsets them.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My mom is an elementary school nurse. She gets livid with the teachers that do shit like this.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Gonna venture out against the tide on this one since I am a parent and going to school to be a teacher, if a kid 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

(At any school age really) is asking to leave the room constantly, I'd be suspicious and restrict their time outside the class as well. 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

To op: just have the kid carry his inhaler on him, depending on your state laws, they can't (or at least shouldn't) restrict him carrying it

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I had a gym teacher who wouldn't let me stop running the track while I was ACTIVELY having an asthma attack. Female gym teacher noticed (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2) I was about to drop and let me go to the nurse. Asshole guy teacher had tenure but was made to retire the following year.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would tear that school apart with my anger. I'm a parent and I'm pissed as hell for you and your kid

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 6

I would tear down the teacher, the school, the BOE, and the damn union that tries to stop me. This is absurd, and if anything happened 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I would not stop filing lawsuits until every last one of them felt it. I can't even wrap my mind around this.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Absolutely. It's actual life or death here, that teacher is a fucking monster.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My son went through a phase of wetting himself at school, turns out teacher wouldn't let him go because he asked to often. He's 5

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

As a teacher, if they're asking to go "too often", we contact the parents. Rule out behaviour or illness.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is very interesting. My kids school has a one toilet bathroom in their classroom so they can go whenever they need to. They don't even

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's... really rather good of them :D

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Need to ask they just go use it. I think they stop having one in there around 3rd grade

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My opinion of our educational system eternally bounces between "Parents are the assholes" and "Teachers are the assholes".

9 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 6

It's a highly complex issue revolving around many problematic things with the American education system.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, people in general are assholes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. People are assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both sides are right.

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Summarized as Assholes are assholes

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Children are the assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't think teachers are the assholes, all the regulations and rules placed upon them.. everything according to absurd federal rules etc :|

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That of course doesn't mean some teachers abuse it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a teacher and do not understand why medicine is kept in an office or with a nurse... it should be with the child (or teacher) always

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My mom, a school nurse, shares a similar sentiment. Especially in regards to EpiPens and inhalers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My SIL's favorite school story is when her teacher tried to deny her bathroom access. She maintained eye contact as she emptied her bladder.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Should teach him to walk out of class, or simply don't let anyone get in his way of his inhaler if he needs it. I would also contact the >

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was told I was not allowed to carry my insulin on me in school. I did keep a vial in the office, but carried my insulin pens on me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Same here, they used to make me test in the office as well. I ended up getting lost in elementary school cause I was low and disoriented.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I spent a lot of elementary school in a hypoglycemic haze. But once I started carrying my own crap in middle school, things got better

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I told both of my kids this: If it's an emergency it doesn't matter what the teacher says, you do it.

9 years ago | Likes 631 Dislikes 5

My kid has severe asthma. We tell her the same. Don't die because some substitute doesn't know your medical history.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had one teacher that only allowed us to use restroom during certain times. Mom told us to get up & walk out if we needed to

Seconded

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've told my kids the same thing.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

In most cases I'd say yes, but if his kid has asthma and tries to leave and for whatever reason the teacher stops him it could make it worse

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 8

Did you read the post, the nurse had the inhaler and the teacher wouldn't let him go there, nor get it for him. Teacher is cunt.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If she does she gets fired for refusal of medical assistance (in most states). Win-win for the kid eventually.

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2

I mean, he could die, but at least he has the moral victory.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I once peed myself because the only hall pass was being used.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I once asked to go to the Nurse's office for a fever, and was only allowed after I broke down and cried. Turns out, I had a fever of 109.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Um, 109? You're not dead?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Been there had a 111 one day at a hotel by myself called 911 and passed out an 65 year old man carred my 200 pound 6'4 ass and put me 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

2/3 a tub and filled it with ice. And when i went to the hospital he followed me there and made sure my family knew where i was when i woke

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

3/3 up i asked him why he said that i looked like his son that passed he just died this week 2 1/2 mile funeral train for him.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I used to walk out of class unannounced all the time when i could feel a bloody nose coming on. Lol

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I once had a fairly major nosebleed, and it splattered on the desk. Teacher threw my (graded) homework on it to hide it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In kindergarten the teacher and teachers assistant were having a convo and I was waiting for them to finish they told me to sit back down

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and I sat back down and peed myself. Bitch

I know that when I was younger I had problems with being embarrassed to ask to go because of it. Then Mom had enough of that

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One kid in primary peed himself. He had a bladder infection and the teacher wouldn't let him go because he already had

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Poor baby. And it's one of those memories that sticks with you too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poor baby. And it's one of those memories that sticks with you too

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was that kid in 1st grade. Teacher told me to wait. Ended up sitting in the nurses office for an hour waiting for clean pants. :/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The teacher taught you something important: authority figures don't necessarily know anything.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, I got one that's worse. We could only use the restroom 5 times a semester

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I would have been written up a lot in that class

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh god yeah. To make it worse, you got a single point of extra credit for each use you didn't use, as if that made up for it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How bizarre. That is a teacher with nothing better to do.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yet another case of a teacher power tripping to show how tough they are against little kids.

9 years ago | Likes 367 Dislikes 17

My friend had Diabetes and needed his epipen on a school trip. The teacher refused to let him take it and he went into a diabetic coma

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Epipens aren't really used for diabetes. We do have insulin pens or glucagon shots though. Either can apply to this case.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ah my bad, I'm not that kind of scientist X_X

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had countless teachers as a youngin that seemingly only taught to have power over students. Those were the worst teachers.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I always wondered why cops get a reputation for being where all bullies went after school when teachers seem exactly the same

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My friend in middle school had diabetes and had to take his insulin shot but the substitute thought he was lying and he passed out.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Jesus. Even if you thought he might be lying, why take the chance? Also, I feel like subs should be given that kind of info.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

When I was little I was unable to control going to the bathroom, so the teacher didn't let me go for asking multiple times a day to go. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

I ended up peeing in class and being embarrassed in front of everyone. Teachers are assholes.

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 3

Similar except it was summer school between 6th and 7th grade and I was too awkward/embarrassed to do anything about it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Similar here. Had my hand up for over 2 periods wanting to go and she refused to acknowledge me because I should've gone during lunch

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Same here... When I was really small my ski school instructor wouldn't let me go in so I spend hours outside wet and cold, super sore

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry that happened to you. Some teachers are ass holes :(

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Me too! And then my first grade teacher was convinced that I had "tricks" and I was always "up to them"

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

She subbed once for my third grade class and during roll call she called my name and said "No tricks today, I'm watching you."

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ann Saffer. Second grade. Wouldn't let me leave and I peed myself. 23 years later I'm still angry.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My brother has asthma and they tried to pull this shit with him, my mom basically told them to fuck off and had my brother keep an inhaler

9 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

Why would this not be allowed?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because fuck 'em.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think their reasoning is that other kids might get ahold of the inhaler/medicine.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do they not educate people too well about asthma and other quite common conditions such as allergies and type 1 diabetes?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If not, then it is hardly the child's fault they played with an inhaler, growing up, i carried an inhaler on my person without much issue.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the bottom of his back pack in case he ever needed it.

9 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

It's bizarre to me that this is an issue. From 4 - 10 I always had one in my backpack. No secret and I would pull and use it as needed.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Some school districts are unreasonably finicky

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not uncommon these days to see major restriction on children carrying their own medication. The nurse being the only one allowed to 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

dispense medication, including emergency inhalers, isn't uncommon either. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It's because they assume all kids in elementary are druggies.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Growing up I had the same problem as your son. Turns out the teachers aren't allowed to neglect your son the usage of his asthma. And 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 467 Dislikes 7

I was originally from Spain and when I went to classes at 4 I took extra English class to catch up, i asked my teacher if I could leave (1)

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To get to my other extra class and she said no.. then I got in trouble with my other teacher because I didn't show.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't the nurse determine that? Not the teacher

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My friends brother had a substitute deny him going to the nurse for his insulin before lunch. So he dropped his pants right there and did 1

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The injection in the middle of class. (Injection goes in the buttcheek)

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0
