#20 Wasn't he accused by a few women for doing just that?

9 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The difference is the woman asked in the picture. From the Louis CK thing he assumed they'd like it and did it without consent

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So, he is/was a total douchebag. But that's not accurate. He did ask them and they consented. The problem is the MASSIVE power imbalance. He is a god on the comedy circuit and these were small potato comedians who felt he had the power to help/hurt them. Not really different from a power exec at a company taking advantage of an agreeable intern. Yes they might have said yes, but only because that person could destroy them.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

that's the joke, yep. the "not louis ck" bit in his name gives away that it's a parody account. still fun!

#65 pretty accurately describes growing up in the '80s. Looking back and comparing now to then, it's amazing the things we got away with and somehow survived.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The reason things are so different now is the number that DIDN'T survive. 1 death in several thousand sounds like good odds to everyone except the parents of that 1. And they then do everything in their power to prevent it from happening to anyone else.

What they didn't take into account is that life itself is a gamble and the quality of life matters more than the quantity. Life is worse now for everyone to make it just a little safer.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Think so too. Positive messages work better. The "just go home" is good. "Call your friend and talk", "go for a run" ,... Anything that brings your mind off that beaten track. And do not drink when you're in a bad mood,s it reinforces your momentary emotional state.

Bold of you to call people moron, when you're the one who is missing the point that he is trying to avoid behavior, in order to get time to heal and stop thinking of her.

So maybe tone down your arrogant behavior and practice a little self reflection. You're embarrassing yourself.

#1 hey props to him. I've got the same problem with my most recent girlfriend. It's like a drug.

9 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It's neurologically pretty much the same as drug addiction. I've heard lovesickness being called "the mother of all addictions". Other addictions rarely directly lead to deliberate suicide. Heartache does.

The saving grace is, that heartache usually goes away, come time. As opposed to many addictions.

#66 Had a friend in HS who took a defensive driving course where they did exactly this (without the snow, though)

9 months ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

Where from, 'safe driving' course after you pass your driving exam is mandatory. Slick wet surfaces, actual boards that trhow your car into a spin... its fun

9 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

*After*? Isn't that a bit late?

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not rly, because its mandatory and if you dont do it within 2 years you loose ypur lycence.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Just seems like this is something that should be required *before* you are licensed to be on the road

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perhaps. But its a relatively new thing and ppl tend to be resistant to to abrupt changers. Perhaps in the future ut can ve integrated. But i guess the idea is ypu get some XP from real world driving and come in your own car preferably to this

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Here in Norway, passing an ice/slippery road driving course is mandatory.

9 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Every country should adopt that.

It boggles my mind that here in the UK that motorways (highways) aren't part of the driving test.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah. The reason it's a course more than a test, is that it's more for you to get to know the feeling of spinning and sliding so that you don't panic if it happens again, but it's still mandatory.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What!? They arent?
Denmark here, the second time driving with my instructor he smiled devilish at me, while we drove towards the reamp to the highway.
It was thr most easy thing i fucking did during these driving lessons lol but yes it should abseloutly be part of the training?!
We also have ice/water course.
We have a whole cheklist we need to do like backing around a corner for eksempel.
We have a tiny book with 15 "lessons" that we have to do while driving, so highway, roundabouts and so on.

9 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We have the list of required maneuvers and most other aspects of driving are included. But motorways are not part of the test, and it's even illegal to drive on them until you have passed.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No they're not part of the test, or getting your license in any practical way. It's insane.

Motorways aren't difficult to drive on or anything but it is a different set of driving considerations. Urban roads require attention to curves, road furniture, pedestrians, imminent hazards, traffic signals etc. etc. Motorways are more about keeping pace and distance with other traffic to better anticipate potential hazards much further ahead. Easier, but just different to urban.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing like jumping on the 6 lane interstate at 15 with an instructor and 2 other kids in the back to pass the exam. But what's worse is getting on the interstate and you're one of the kids in the back

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah shit that also sounds insane, with those 6 lane roads 😂😅
I would be dead scared!
Im glad we have our neat small 3 lane highways with lots of rules 😅

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Does that imply there is an offensive driving course, or is that just called learning how to drive in Boston/Italy/etc?

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

yes. it's called tactical driving and covers things like going in reverse at high speeds and how to drive (almost) as fast as a rally driver on unfamiliar roads (ideally, at night!)

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#31 that's not true, actually

40% ADMITTED to being abusers, meaning the actual number is much higher.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

#31 That we know of, that's technically the minimum percentage, and there's probably more of them unreported

9 months ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 4

IIRC it's 40% who SELF-REPORT. Which means the real number would be so very much higher.

9 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

That's assuming that cops are as ashamed as normal people are about being domestic abusers. We'd need more data to know if that's true.

9 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Even if they're not ashamed, they know that they themselves occasionally are sent to intervene in exactly the same thing they themselves do. They understand that it's not socially accepted outside of their group.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

pdfs can be rotated?

Ctrl/Shift/+ and Ctrl/Shift/-

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That very much depends on the specific application you're in.

This illustrated very much why I detest schools who teach word instead of word processors, excel instead of spreadsheets, etc.

The very reason why we tend to call Microsoft types clickmonkeys: they know where the menu item is, but they don't understand the concepts.

There are two generations that know how to do that. The generation that invented all the things on the internet and the Millenials who think they are the only generation that understands computers.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Both generations on either side of Gen X forget Gen X. We shall take our memories with us when we go.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I assume they're talking about Millennials here, but Gen X was doing that when they were still kids. With a more difficult interface, too.

9 months ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 2

Shhhhh. Quit reminding people that we exist.

9 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Gen X would of been teenagers. Elder millennials knonehoe but younger millennials are computer stupid too.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I meant Gen X was doing that stuff when Millennials were still kids. I remember at work when we started hiring Millennials. There was a difference. Even the ones with comp sci degrees knew less than previous new hires. And yeah the new hires have gotten less and less knowledgeable about how to just figure out computer programs or issues on their own. Even though we have google now and it makes finding out how to do stuff so easy!!!

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Late Gen X though.. Only the nerdiest older ones had chops..

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is it time to reintroduce The Book of Bunny Suicides to the new generation?

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It was the fact that they explicitly said there's only one generation that has tech skills, when there are two. I didn't realize corrections are unacceptable if they mention Gen X.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not even remotely my intention, just the fact that X always gets forgotten like they don't exist

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gen xers forgot all that shit and niw need help from their milenial kids to burn a CD

9 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 38

There are two sets. Pre internet and early adopters

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a genX computer illiterate and that's basically one of the ONLY things I know how to do. Plus, it's basically obsolete knowledge like most of my computer skills...

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For real. My friend is a high school teacher and some of his students struggle with basic web search and have no concept of storage locations. They're just used to apps finding relevant files on their own and have no idea how to find the file they were just shown how to download

9 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Zoomers cannot use computers. Zoomers THINK they can, because they grew up with a screen in their hands, but then you see them try to pinch zoom on a desktop or struggle with the concept of "double click" because all they know is "tap" and "long press" - and NONE of them know how to fix anything. They do at least know how to google, unlike boomers.

Gen X and early Millennials are the ones with the tech chops. Late millennials are a toss-up - some of them ended up with the Zoomers on tech.

9 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

class 82 here, had my first pc at 11 (386, 250kb ram, 300mb HDD). I learned mostly myself.
In my city we were like 5 pc nerd, no D&D around here. When I was young I was the guy that was called when the children managed to infect the pc wit 200-300 virus while trying to download porn/videogames cheats/boy band "personal video". Dont ask, I wont answer. Shit is still scary, yo.
I did stop because my work tire me too much (lathe worker).
You REALLY dont want to know what I've seen in over 30 years

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

File storage and organization is a multi-generational issue. People are sloppy AF on computers.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In this case they had no concept of file storage at all. They didn't know you can browse stored files. They just assume relevant files pop up in whatever app they're using automatically, because on Android and iOS that's how it works in practice. And they've never used a regular computer before. Maybe they had a chromebook in middle school, besides that they've only ever used phones and tablets.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Physical issue too, not just a digital issue. People are just bad at organization.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It does not help that things like apple phones just don't give you access to storage locations. One of the things I hated about having an iPhone for work. Where's that PDF I downloaded. Why can't I just plug my phone into a laptop and copy it over? What reason is all of this hidden from the user apple? Trash technology that is. But I find it much harder to understand how younger generations just don't understand digital storage at all. Like a megabyte, a gigabyte these terms mean nothing to them

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

[Why can't I just plug my phone into a laptop and copy it over?] Because if you can do it with your PDFs, you might do it with your music files, and they want to keep their stranglehold on your media.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they don't have to know about it in order to use the tech there's no reason to expect them to unless it's a special interest for them. It's not their fault things just work for the most part, unlike in our day when you had to know how things were put together in order to make them do what you wanted. Apple being shitty and their competitors falling over each other trying to emulate their licked down experience sure doesn't help things.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I miss when getting a new phone meant picking the most exciting one, instead of finding the one whose drawbacks are the least annoying to you ...

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheers to that. I've stuck with Sony's Experia 1 series phones for years now just because in spite of lacking some of the other features and the level of waterproofing I'd like the fact that they have kept the ever useful 3.5mm jack (don't get me started on how insecure Bluetooth is) and more importantly the SD card slot.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#54 GenX always left out of these things. Which is exactly what we want.

9 months ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

I never remember GenX even exists, really. My family, every branch of it, doesn't have GenX kids. Literally every grandparent is a boomer, and every parent is a millennial. Kids are split between Z and alpha, but X was bypassed completely. I thought my brother and I were X for years until I saw that the millennial range starts at '85. Y'all really are invisible to me.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When GenX was watching cartoons, the suicide jokes the Greatest Generation put into them were still there. But as soon as we emulated that, we would get in _so_ much trouble that we learned to never bring it up again even if it was serious.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, we're so used to it

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe if Gen X was funnier they wouldn't be left out so much

9 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

Looks aren’t everything.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Boomers were the Golden Child, Gen-X is the Invisible Child, Millennials are the Scapegoat, and Gen-Z is the Mascot.

9 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Eh, couldn't be bothered. If Boomers were the Me Generation, we Xers are the Meh Generation.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The youths are finally realizing we Gen X pretty well enabled Boomers through our stereotypical apathy and are starting to lump us in with them. I'm okay with that really. We did ultimately totally drop the ball on a bunch of things.

9 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Nah man, as a GenX, we were the first post-hippy generation to get a handle on the ecological thing and it's importance. It was GenX that gave us such wholesome and motivating songs as "Sweet Harmony" by The Beloved, and that permeated the culture stream. We saw the better way, we just knew it would take more than a few weeks of flag waving to change things.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it really apathy or near statistical irrelevance?

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Let's not make 'accepting responsibility for bad things done by other people close to us in age' a thing. WE didn't do shit. Nobody asked you and I to run the world.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Actually each generation is expected to do just that when the previous generation dies out. Part of that does involve trying to work on the existing issues.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Anecdotally speaking, nearly every Gen X person I've met has basically been boomer-lite if not full boomer in their worldviews. Y'all aren't as blameless as you'd like to be.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Uh-uh, but I'm not going to accept responsibility for the worldviews of every other A-Team-watching son of a bitch out there.

Besides, grouping generations together and hating on them is just another way for the world's true villains to escape notice. Who is that? You'll find them by watching for their secret symbol: "$$$".
