I think its weird not to talk to my cab driver. Dude has a boring job. I wanna know everuthing about them. Its nice to have someone listen.

"To the airport, hey? Where are you going, how long are going to be away? Do you have a dog?"

This wasn't a meaningful encounter.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I gotta ask about the car always.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to gauge your riders. Some of them love talking. Some just need a quiet ride home. Some are just too drunk.

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Damn skippy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I tip cabs more for the same reason

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The ratings don't mean shit to us unless you're just starting out. Throw a tip instead.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Just had this experience 3 minutes ago. So great. Now I’m sitting alone at a bar and no one is talking to me. This is my life

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HI

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a Lyft driver and I've found that the talkers will usually strike up the convo themselves.. otherwise it's best to just keep silent.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm also a Lyft driver. True, but sometimes people are having a tough day, don't wanna admit it, you ask what's up, and the floodgates open.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone needs to take this gif and either make it upvotes or put 5/7 at the end. :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as they are nice I don't mind talking to my driver. Some of the folks I have ridden with have been really fun to talk to actually.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"So, how's your day been?"... simple question and the response lets you know whether or not the customer is a "chatty cathy" or not.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I appreciate the title. I love a good chat when I'm drunk. I was so amazed one time when I found out my driver coukd speak five languages!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm an uber passenger, and I say that in the app, they should let you select if u want a talky or no-talky driver.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see this a lot. I drive occasionally and always feel pressed to be chatty, when I'd rather focus on driving safely and in peace.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like a good Uber driver should ask something along the lines of would you like to walk or just sit in peace, I'm here to satisfy

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I only responded to their questions/conversation.

We had an 87 year old Uber driver Sunday in Las Vegas. Strange day.

8 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 3

Ok, well that happened, too.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll give you another chance to determine why Sunday in Las Vegas was a strange day.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I got one awhile back who told me he came to America because the cartels put a hit out on him.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that was the weirdest part of your day? Sunday in Las Vegas...

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Lol. It's funny cause mass shooting

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

I never went to church. But I'm probably going to Hell for this.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

We're on imgur. Everyone here is going to hell.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like this use of the gif more than I like the actual song and video

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very torn. Like I don't do anything to engage the driver but if they don't do anything either I give a 4. Dick ish but if it's an average

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ride then I rate it so. I'm fine if I get rated a 4 as a passenger too. I just like save 5s for drivers that give me an above average ride

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's cuz you are a Bitch. This affects this salary

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You give him a 6-star wanted level? That's mean dude.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I just realised I can't count. What a terrible day I'm having.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm fine with talking, but for some reason uber drivers always seem to want to talk about their political views/sexual exploits/etc

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like, I'm an American going to a gay pride parade, do you really think this is the time to complain about gay people and Americans?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're not drinking, why waste money on an uber!?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't drive at all, so I use uber all the time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Must be nice not having horrible decisions running through your mind 24/7

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of people don't have cars/time for muni/public transpo, especially in large, dense cities.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone know how viable uber/lyft employment can be in the Portland, OR area? Could someone net $2,000 or more per month working full time?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In theory yes, depends on the need in your area and if you're prepared to work a ton of hours each day.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know much about Portland specifically, but you pretty much have to just hit peak hours to make it worth it. If you do that, (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the pay/hour can be high enough to warrant the effort, but it really should just be a side gig for most people. The people I know who (2/?)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

have done it long term just count on that for extra fun money or savings. They would have problems supporting themselves otherwise. (3/3)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As long as you are near a city and airport 6 thousand a month

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't consider it like full time employment. Even their ads say that

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I wasn't thinking long term, but just wondering if it could hold me over while I job search. Gotta change professions due to injury.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on if you're willing to work weekends, long hours, and bar or event times/spots. I drive Lyft full time in the bay area, Cali. PM >

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> me your questions about it if you want.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wish I could get a silent hairdresser.

8 years ago | Likes 173 Dislikes 2

I tip extra if my barber doesn't try to start a conversation, and instead lets me enjoy the moment.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine wouldn't shut up about Obama being a Muslim, terrorism in general or that Mermaid Mockumentary that he thought was totally legit.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go to a Chinese barber joint. None of them speak English lol that's what I do

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one, and I tip her very well because she knows I don't like chit chat. Cut my beautiful hair, and shhh.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Screw that. That's the only real conversation I ever have these days.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have had many hairdressers over the years for this reason. They get distracted and lose focus on the haircut.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This!!! Some try so hard to make conversation too, I want to thank them for trying but shuuut uuup

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There is not much I am (at 42) going to have in common with a 19/20 year old. I appreciate the attempt

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

jesus fuck yes, please just cut and let me sit in silence..

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Especially while they're blowdrying my hair! We can't even hear each other, why must you torture me so?! Now I have to pretend to hear you!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My hairdresser doesn't say a word. My hairdresser is me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can trim the sides and my bangs but can't cut the back of my hair. I 've avoided going by just letting my hair get long.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do the opposite. I shave it all off.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are days when that would make me happy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They get so scared if you don't want to talk! I had the perfect hairdresser once. I didn't have to talk and the cut was perfect. Sigh

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or a silent dentist.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

That would be even better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"So, how's it going?" Hrmrmbl brmbl

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

v

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My dentist is and it’s simply the best.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine are Vietnamese. Here's how it goes: "1 on the sides shorter on top.. *a few nodes later* .. Thanks"

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

YES! Mine is barbers wanting to talk about sports and things, ugh.

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Sports and things: the two things that we don't give a crap about :P

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I go to a Spanish barbershop because I don't speak Spanish and want to sit quietly.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Haha, goals.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The girl I saw last time informed me she has "like the best taste in music because she was totally into Adele before she was famous "

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Face palm. Would've said, never heard of her.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You mean, like, the computer?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's a great response.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As an Uber driver, Im a talker, but I usually tell within about 10 seconds if somebody wants to talk or not, and accommodate accordingly.

8 years ago | Likes 715 Dislikes 3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Lyft driver, same. Well, maybe 20 secounds, but I'm getting there. Closing in on 2700 rides...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Australian driver here. I am the same, I only really talk if they initiate the conversation.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. Exact. Thing. Throwin a huge Epcot on that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only talk when spoken to jk u ain't no slave

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you know if drivers are generally insulted if I sit in the back? A driver once put his hand on my thigh and now I worry.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not all heroes wear capes.

8 years ago | Likes 163 Dislikes 1

It would freak me the fuck out if my uber driver was wearing a cape

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to drive cab and did the exact same thing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an Uber passenger, holy hell it's expensive. Oh ya and I'm a talker too.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I appreciate a good conversationalist. Thank you

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I had one in the UK who had a sign on his dash that said "If you don't want small talk, just tap this sign!" with some quote about silence.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Needless to say he got a 5 star and a good tip.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Listening to talkers makes me hungry. And thirsty.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I took a ride to the airport at 3:30am and I was way too tired to talk but he kept trying. He was friendly though

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You’re my ideal driver.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I think this ability has helped me maintain my 4.88 rating. Knowing when to talk and when to just STFU and drive., also my 80's music

8 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 0

Nobody can hate 80's music.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

For me, it's probably the snacks and bottle water, but yeah, knowing when to talk and when to shut up helps a lot. Just wish there was an >

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

> option in the app ( Uber and/or Lyft ) that could let us know if the passenger is feeling chatty or not. Some kinda status from the rider.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

One time, a friend and I got in after a night of drinking and just talked the whole ride to his house. The driver was silent, but I think

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

he enjoyed listening in on our conversation.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I appreciate their friendliness but sometimes I just want to ride in silence.

8 years ago | Likes 322 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as an uber driver with social anxiety... this is usually me

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Last Uber Driver for 30 minute ride ..................... "you cold?" "No, thank you."............................................ Awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 0

I have always advocated that any of these ride sharing apps should have a check box that says do not talk with me in goooood

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

I put that suggestion into Lyft a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping it gets done soon. Most passengers agreed to wanting that option.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would be better, sometimes it’s tough to tell how people are feeling about small talk that day.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm the same way in bed sometimes.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Beats the hell out of crying.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're doing something wrong if it's all silent.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I bet it sounds like running around the pool in wet flip flops.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol be nice, some of these people are poor as fuck or have sick relatives

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

So you're supposed to force awkward small talk?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That comment was pretty nice.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Lol?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't even know

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have no idea. They make pretty much no money after taxes since a good 15 to 20 percent is cut

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When I did Lyft I was bringing home $300-400 on the weekends.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

City of 100,000. I'd do 10 hours on a weekend, bring in 400 dollars, 50 dollars gas (SUV). I figured 20/hour after tax+depreciation

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That doesn't include tips, varied from 0 to 50 dollars per weekend

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But if you have a Tesla.....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha I've done the math. Breaks even at full time

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well That's good for you, I live I a city of 2 million and I do their taxes for free. After I calculate their expenses they get hammered

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

By self employment taxes on TOP of income tax

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that 400 a week?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

400 for 10 - 12 hours. Peak weekend times Friday sat evenings

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair that's after figuring out min/max strata
