Domestic horses get their teeth filed.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Equines can and do eat meat, though. The horses that were brought on arctic expeditions lived on meat and fat like everyone else.

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

perhaps it has nothing to do with our teeth and everything to do with our stomaches and metabolic system? but that's none of my business

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I only feed my horses chicks.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

As someone who loves birds...COULD YOU HAVE FUCKING WARNED ME!? LITERALLY thought it would just be a cute video

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Just cause that dude as pathetic canines doesn't mean I can't eat meat.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ignoring our canines (which can be clearly seen), gut biomes, and macro-nutrient needs.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And reduced stomach count.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m a biologist, and I can tell you there are other things that decide whether you are a true meat eater or not: 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2/2 Like the length of your digestive tract, whether you are bad at digesting carbs or not, or if you are simply Guy fucking Fieri.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All the archeological evidence that proves we hunted animals for most of our existence?

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

And that our nearest relatives eat meat when they can get it.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I studied Biology. I had to memorize mammalian tooth diagrams for weeks. This made me sit down and go "This isn't how any of that works"...

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Every animal is a carnivore if theyre hungry enough. Or lacking calcium

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

TIL: gorillas are meat eaters. Dentition is not the entire story. I hate these grossly simplified science memes.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The fact that they didn’t go with “herbivore” to fit with omnivore and carnivore and went with “vegan” is just irritating as hell.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

HE ATE THE CHICK!? WTF KINDA DEMON HORSE IS THAT?!

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm glad you, out of all but one top comment, were the first to address the fucking carnivorous horse .gif

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Who replaced that person’s canines with flat teeth?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah looks like they just cherry picked someone with really shallow canines.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm officially disturbed by that horse, that's some seriously fucked up shit right there!

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I've never heard an animal be called a "vegan."

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My canines were so long my dentist shortened them. I never forgave him.

7 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Mine are longer than the rest as well. It pops up about 50% of the time in my family so its a little weird

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my canines are above the rest of my top teeth, it looks like im a vampire when I smile.

Considering how humans have molars that don't even fit in their jaws and are routinely removed, I don't trust human dentition to be reliable

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

Crowded and small jaws are due to gestational nutrient deficiencies

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

as a sign of what nature intended us to do

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Without modern dental care most people would have lost a set of molars by the time their wisdom teeth came in, then there would be room and

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

you have a new set of chompers to last until you die in 20 years.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's thought that we chew to little to make our jaws grow to their full size. https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-15823276

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Argubly a diet with less meat and dairy would help fix that, having lower caloric density.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

And probably plants that were not "genetically engineered the old-fashioned way" to have such a high carb to fiber ratio.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

In addition to that, the use of cutlery to cut our food instead of tearing it, has changed our jaw shape. Its a combo of things!

Natures equivalent of a hot pocket.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

We are omnivores but highly adaptable. I’ve chosen to be vegetarian and that’s worked great for me- but to each their own. Enjoy yourself.

7 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 4

Apes follow a mostly "vegan" diet (fruit and leaves) but will eat bugs every now and then. We just adapted our diet to leave the trees.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You can only choose to be vegetarian because we have abundance of food to supplement our diet. In times of need no human would survive vegan

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 21

Yeah, vitamin B12 is impossible to get without eating animal products or some techy bacteria-based supplement.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Meat eaters are like "well u couldn't be vegetarian if it was impossible to be vegetarian?" Like thanks Einstein u fucking owned vegetarians

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

And most of us can only eat meat every day because we live in an industrialized society with lots of factory farms. In times of need no

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

human would be chowing down on burgers every day. More like, lots of root vegetables and a little bit of meat once in awhile.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Thats correct, too. Although in winter there would probably be lots of meat on the menu

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool your jets, sir and or madame- I didn’t say vegan.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I just said vegan because of the char limit. Also, vegetarian is pretty healthy afaik

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And as for your supposition: I was raw vegan for a year. No supplements. I’ve never been healthier.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No supplements? Even most omnis need b vitamin supplements...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And yet I didn’t suffer any issues. I did eat a lot - like holy shit a lot! of produce from the farmers market. Maybe I was eating bugs?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And your point is ? I also choose to be vegetarian, because I can and I would prefer not to eat meat if I don't need to. If I lived in an

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Just sayin. Live your life, I dont care. Go you. I just wanted to say that humans are not naturally herbivores.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

I think you may be confusing herbivore with folivore

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Uh, "herbivore" doesn't mean "only eats leaves". It means "only eats plant material".

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Hmmm i may have made an etymological error, not sure. There is the word "frugivore" but it doesnt exclude non fruits from the diet.

Horses are not "Vegan" they are Herbivores. Their teeth and digestive tract are considerably different than a Human's.

7 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 1

Yep, and their digestive tract is somehow still terrible! Who even designed those creatures anyway

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I dont understand how they were used for war. They are fragile broken down machines

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If vegans are herbivores, their digestive tracts are probably longer. Which would explain why they're full of shit.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

They're mostly obligate herbivores. They won't hesitate to eat a bird or small mammal if they're hungry but generally eat veg.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They do that for sources of calcium and essential vitamins

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only rarely, the vast and overwhelming majority of their diet is plant based.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

There are minor similarities with omnivores, yea https://i.pinimg.com/originals/0a/a1/c2/0aa1c29f6c187666eb6e33e802c33838.jpg

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually, we're more like frugivores like our ape counterparts.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Although humans are, obviously, omnivores, that's a relatively recent change in evolutionary terms, and our physiology definitely leans 1/n

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

3.5 million years are not "recent change" and our gut as evolved to depend on meat. We synthesize B12 vitamin, but only in the ileum part1)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2)of our small intestine(the last part before the colon), we can only absorb it in the duodenum(the first part af the stomach. Humans are

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3)depended on diet to obtain B12.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

towards plants, especially fruit (and most great apes are primarily frugivorous, aside from mostly insect protein). The biggest change 2/n

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

I wonder why most insects don't taste good to us.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

to humans since adopting a lot of meat to our diet has actually been to our brain size, rather than to our gut, and in turn, to our 3/n

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

posture that enables tool use. We can still gut ferment, which is a pretty big indication of a herbivorous past. 4/4

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

I think humans are probably meant to be omnivores (though I think it's still possible to be healthy and have a vegetarian diet) but, our

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Teeth definitely do not look like omnivore teeth, particularly using the pictures above.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Those canines probably don't serve a dietary function but rather a ''social'' function or a defensive function.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not a good argument anyway. Pandas are herbivores, but because they are bears, they have similar sharp teeth.

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

It's a decent rule of thumb so long as you're aware of taxonomic groups.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, emperor penguins are carnivores. So yeah..

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And baleen whales are predators but since they eat krill, their teeth are useless for biting.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pandas are neither bears nor herbivores. They are closer to racoons and are omnivores.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Scientists suspected that was the case for a while, but more recent genetic evidence shows it is, in fact, a bear. Also, the red panda turns

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That hasn't been proven soundly. There is evidence that is a product of convergent evolution and they evolved seperately.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

out to be not very close to raccoons or giant pandas.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did not know about red pandas.

Dogs like veggies too

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Liking something doesn’t classify the animal, it’s based on physical morphology, dog’s teeth and digestive tract are designed for meat

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Their digestive tracts can’t fully break down plant matter and they will die of malnutrition if they are not fed meat or dog food

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Judging from my neighbor's dog shit, which I always shovel back onto their porch, dogs don't digest veggies.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Partially right. They cant survive on a plant diet but they do need plant matter on occasion. Many species regularly eat fruit/nuts.

It's a dog, it's the second result when I googled "dog teeth"

Well bears aren't exactly known to be found in the same place as bananas anyways.

Dogs aren’t actually obligate carnivores. They need some veg material to stay healthy. Cats, however, should only ever eat meat.

My cat loves broccoli with olive oil

That's why I get so worried when I see vegans with pets. I always fear they are not feeding them correctly.

Don’t worry, a majority of us aren’t that stupid.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Not obligate like cats, but they nonetheless are a member of order Carnivora.

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Order Ca4nivora has nothing to do with diet.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That reflects their genetic and evolutiibary background, not what they eat right now...

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not only. Even in the wild up to 10% of a cats' diet is non-animal. But it's certainly not this way over 50% that store bought food is.

Well cats eat grasses for 2 reasons, to help with hairballs and to help stimulate their digestive track, like us when we eat fibre

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They eat plants other than grass though. Not a lot, but some in the wild.

Let him try some chocolate or grapes. He’d love that.

I think most animals have some flexibility that allows better survival. I just meant for “optimal” health, cats should eat almost only meat.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I dunno man, the longest lived cats were fed greens along with their regular food. Lemme see if I can pull up the link

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The point is that if cats do not eat meat they will die. Whereas a vegan dog is sad but probably will not die.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Doesn't need to be sad, but I do agree that feeding dogs at least some meat is better than none at all.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Cats are obligate carnivores, they require meat because they can't produce certain nutrients and have to eat them. Dogs are omnivores, they-

-can survive on a diet of pure meat or a diet of pure plants, but are healthier with both, leaning more toward the meat end of the spectrum.

Tomatoes and garlic are toxic to cats. They destroy RBCs. Please don't.
