And all the laws are about killing the girls while the guys get to skate away. Seems like a set up.

It's the same double standard that labels a woman who's had several sexual partners as a slut but labels a man as a champ for the same thing.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, yeah. Blame the ones who cannot fight back in any regard and are seen under the law as incapable of rational decision-making.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let’s call it what it is Rape. It’s rape.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's called Pedophilia.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

"fathering man" is an interesting way to say rapist.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

and since last year, nothing has changed

She's now 16.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of the vocal people are men who would love to abuse girls around that age. Notice them in churches especially who condemn the girls but forgive the men.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did not know of that statistic,

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

15 y/o boys have just as much sex but no one talks about their promiscuity.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's always blame the victim.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Doubly so if the victim is female.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The study was in 1997 using data from 1988. If you look at the data, historically there is 5-7 yr age gap. Worse post WWII.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I didn’t know the numbers were like that

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only thing we talk about less is the plight of the child itself, being born to such unfortunate circumstances.

2 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 2

The purpose of Right to lifers is not to protect the child, the purpose of Right to lifers is to give the female 'a lesson' on the consequences of sex. The fact they would -risk the chance- of a -child- growing to adulthood undernourished, unwanted and unneeded lays bare a level of -cruelty and vindictiveness unmatched in human civilization.

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

It was never about life- or they wouldn’t be so pro death penalty

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m interested in the political and or religious views of the perpetrators. My stereotype is high % white male, ‘Christian’ and right leaning. Happy to be corrected.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anyone have that article about planned parenthood docs and their pro-life patients?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They used to call trafficked girls “delinquent.”

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The reason conservatives don't want sex ed is because it becomes harder to abuse children that way

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are like 99% of those 18 and 19 year olds? I hope….

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Reading is hard, but keep at it, and you'll get it one day. :)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Whoops - I read right over the 15 year olds part and saw “teen pregnancies” only

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do you think evangelicals are so down on sex ed!?! Them boys'd _never_ procreate if a girl knew what was coming

He was a 20 year old Air Force cadet and I was told by his superior that he wasn't about to allow me the opportunity to ruin that fine young man's future. They did at least pay for my abortion at Planned Parenthood.

I’m sorry. But I’m happy your fine future wasn’t tied to his people.

I can say that time in my life had a positive influence. Which sounds super fucked up, but it introduced me to others like me and together we gained the tools to become ass kickers at life.

My dad was 21 when he got my 16 year old mom pregnant with me. I know that's on the lower end of the creep scale, but when I myself turned 21 it was absolutely horrifying to think about.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Uhhh…it’s legal in Canada technically unless you hold a position of power then it’s 18

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't say it was illegal (though it is now in the US), just that it's creepy, especially when you look at statistics like this 40% number

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have an aunt who became pregnant in LDS church at 15, her boyfriend, whom she met at church, was 25. It was god’s will because they were both from the ward. 4 more kids by 22, and he beat her relentlessly, attempted to groom my mother a full 12 years younger than his wife. Died of alcohol poisoning many years later.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok. So therapy subject decided for this week. Yikes that one hurt #truthbomb

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My friends sister was pretending to be 19 online, while 13. Some guy got their address and freaked her out so she came to us for help. She had been having adult convos for months. I knew girls in HS like that, came from a bad background and knew older guys could provide. It works both ways. I know I'm going to be down voted for honesty, but humanity is screwed up from the ground up.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

The reason sex with people under a certain age is always considered rape is because they're too young to appreciate the consequences of their actions. Cause you know, they're children. The adult in the situation bears the responsibility no matter what (barring like, being drugged and tied up or something) cause they should know better.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I agree with you. The power dynamic in age gap relationships is very one sided. I've never dated a woman more than 2yrs younger, typically I date older. But, I get hit on by under age women 10x more than women my age, both in person and online. That said, I'm also convinced most dudes are pedos on some level, people trust me readily and I've had people say some creepy shit, even about their own daughters. Humanity disgusts me really.

Yeah but according to Tarantino it was no big deal because she was a "party girl".

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Geimer has repeatedly asked the US to drop the rape charges against him. “Let me be very clear: what happened with Polanski was never a big problem for me–I was fine, I’m still fine. The fact that we’ve made this [a big deal] weighs on me terribly”.

Internalized misogyny is still misogyny.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Not all of those are truly cases of violence, but are exploitation and seduction. Still illegal, unethical, and immoral. It is all abuse. 15 yr olds aren't all innocent angels, and sexual curiosity and drive are natural for them. That shouldn't be taken advantage of by older men who the girls might find interesting because it makes them feel mature and sophisticated. I've seen plenty of teen girls defending their older male lovers, because they're convinced it's 'true love'.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15

Yeah, as a former 15yo girl with 15yo female friends, I can say with certainty that at that age older boys are VERY attractive. That 18-25 that is still young but can like.. grow facial hair, and it is very hard to resist for one so flooded with hormones. Which is why its very important we make sure our young men understand that despite the girls' willingness, they would be taking advantage of these young ladies.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Although, I'm sure some are not just seeing it as justified and permissible because 'they don't know any better', I guarantee some of those older guys know they are exploiting someone naive, and enjoying it. The uninformed may mean no harm, but the informed (which shouldn't be hard to reason without being taught) know there's at least a potential for harm by indulging the girls.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eh, under 25yos arnt really grown themselves. They are still thinking hormonally. Some may figure it out, but i know it didnt occur to me till much older how fucked up the things I saw in High School are. Frankly we need better sex education to clue the youngins in on how power dynamics work and can be abusive before they get old enough to be the abusers.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think statutory rape can be filed under "violence" just fine. I understand you are drawing a line based on forcibly coerced vs mentally but tis all the same male aggression in the end.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You don't have to 'mentally force' some teen girls to find adult men attractive and even to flirt or outright solicit them. It does happen. Do you think a 15 yr old boy trying to hit on a woman means she is 'mentally forcing' them somehow? If she indulges him, she is exploiting the willing, right? Is that 'female aggression'?

Age differences between minors who give birth and their adult partners https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9099568/

2 years ago | Likes 504 Dislikes 3

I do not feel that the predator marrying their child bride makes this any better the way the authors seem to

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The abstract discounting minors married to older men as not a concern for this topic is an odd take

2 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

Probably to sidestep distracting, bullshit arguments over religion and culture.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Did anyone else notice this line " 62% of teenagers aged 15-17 years at delivery did not report their partner's age". Hmm... Now why would they not want to say how old their partner was? /s. That 40% is likely much higher because a lot of that 62% that didn't give their partner's age is probably because they were older.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

The rest of the sentence alludes that 73% of women 18-30 didn't report their partners age. Overall, the report is extremely poorly presented, unfortunately

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wow, this is a lesson in how not to summarize statistical data.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"62% of teenagers aged 15-17 years at delivery did not report their partner's age, while 27% of women aged 18-30 years did so. " talk about confusing writing

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn't that create a lot of sex offender charges since it's consider rape in the united states or this in other countries ?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Never mind this was back in the 80's and 90's 😑

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Only if the victims decided to report and if the the police decided to investigate in response and if the DA decided to charge.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I read the study and while it's interesting the solution is very flawed since adults can still legally date teenagers 😑 they just criminalized teenagers having sex with teenagers because adults were having sex with teenagers flawed logic.

Also I saw 27%, not 40, but I only read the abstract.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the worse.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you read the study, 62% of the mothers in the survey refused to report the age of the fathers at all, which suggests that the number might have even been significantly higher, but not reported due to fear/threats/guilt

2 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 3

This is a helpful comment. Thank you for reading the study.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I am curious about your username. There's clearly a story there, what's going on?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I suffer from the disease the article is about. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

We don't know. No one has bothered to study it since.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Really? No one? Are you sure? Tone is hard to convey here, but for all I know, this topic is your special passion and you've searched hard for more studies.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well the good news is that teen pregnancies have declined for the past 30 years (https://opa.hhs.gov/adolescent-health/reproductive-health-and-teen-pregnancy/trends-teen-pregnancy-and-childbearing).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well in most areas and overall . A few small areas have seen a rise and some are working hard to make sure it rises elsewhere too

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Id like to say it has gotten better but I’m not that optimistic

2 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Well the amount of teen pregnancies has steadily decreased since then.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if nothing else, I'm pretty sure we've got better abortion access.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

*Looks at the US* Hate to be the bad news bandit…

Okay, we HAD it, for a bit.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's amazing to me how so many people of Imgur don't believe statistics about abuse and violence towards women. If you have female friends and family who have never been victims, som ed of them are likely lying to you.

2 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

The posts on this thread alone 100% contradict you but hey, I get it, you make something up in your head and you are right and I bet you feel good about yourself. Of ANY site on the internet Imgur is in full support of women. Sit down idiot.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes SIR!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

alot of the time people do believe it ( or want to ) but people want a sauce so they dont fall into the trap of 'i read X on the internet so it must be true' that infests the far right conspiracy nuthouses.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Ask any woman in your life what age she remembers first being sexualized by an adult and the number will almost always be distressingly low. It happens way more often than we men realize and women have learned not to talk about it cause they don't get listened to.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This. Thank you. A lot of people have trouble realizing other men prey on females fairly regularly.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's always better to ask for a reliable source for any statistic regardless of what it's about. Also see top comment.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

This post is based on a data set that's over 30 years old... you don't see a credibility issue there? If the *current* situation were that dire, why would people be digging up single studies from the 1980s and 1990s?

It's trended down on average due to a drop in most areas but significantly risen in a few places. Places which attacked/are attacking Sex Ed, planned parenthood and education on the matter are/will see a spike.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If anything I would guess it's worse. Internet gave acess to a lot of predators.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I didn't say that. But I bet a lot of people think it wasn't that bad at the time of the publication of the study. Bottom line, society isn't getting safer for women. Look at current legislation.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

On the other hand, that legislation is widely opposed, which likely wouldn't have been the case 30 years ago. And, violent crime is *much* lower (as is property crime). I don't think it's possible to argue that things are less safe now than they used to be - all the evidence shows the opposite. Not to mention general attitudes... 30 years ago people were angry because Hillary Clinton had a career instead of staying home and baking cookies.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn't a great argument. Legislation is taking power away from women and lessening penalties. I don't think violence against women has decreased. Explain the empowerment coming from the incel movement, andrew tate and toxic masculinity. All of that encourages subordination and violence against women.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Violence in general has decreased, by a lot. Andrew Tate and his ilk are certainly a problem, but not a new one, they're just more visible thanks to the internet. People across all demographics report *feeling* less safe than in the past, but by all indications, this is quite possibly the safest time in human history, on average. (If anyone can find any actual evidence to the contrary, I would be interested to see it...)
