Curiosity does not equal Judgment

If you get a tattoo that can be seen by everyone all the time, you're walking around with a conversation topic carved into your body.

Whether you have a pretty sunflower or "no ragrets" inked on you, you shouldn't be shocked or annoyed if people make conversation about it, or, God forbid, compliment you on it. If you don't want folks to ask, cover that shit.

Honestly, I'm really hoping I get some "wrong use of meme" out of this because that would restore my faith in humanity a bit.

"Wrong use of meme"

i dont mind people asking about it but i really dont wanna talk to random strangers about my tats.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If they don't want to be asked about something in their skin. Don't get it. Coming from someone about to get their first tattoo.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as you at not being a dick about I dont mind if I am asked. Might not explain it cause 1stranger 2in a hurry 3at work.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow what are you a child! Because if your a child maybe.. But please don't think because someone looks different to you its okay to question

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I don't mind people asking but it makes me mad when they snarl their nose like the design should please them.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

some of mine are visible. i don't mind if people ask about em. my dreds either. as long as the person asking isn't being a dick.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I saw a Muslim family stop and have a nice conversation with two kids with sleeves. They just looked curious and everyone left smiling.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly I don't notice them anymore so I get majorly confused when people ask what's on my arm/neck/clavicle.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're assuming that everyone gets tattoos just for attention, which isn't necessarily true. You're not totally wrong, but overgeneralizing.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

At least that's what I think. It seems rude to think someone should *have* to want your input just because of something they have.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Asking is fine, coming up to me and grabbing my arm while yelling "OMG LET ME SEE YOUR TATTOOS!" is not fine.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm all for conversations and questions but when you start touching them that's where it gets fucking annoying and creepy.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

you shouldnt get offended when people dont want to talk to yuou

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Exactly. Having something on me that's visible doesn't mean I owe you any of my time because you have eyeballs.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have alot of tattoos and I don't see a problem with questions just don't be offended if they don't want to talk about a certain tattoo 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

But yeah touching sucks I've had ppl touch me at 5 am in my way to work..or at the bank really anywhere.if you ask it could be different 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Oh and to clarify I'm a male that's 5'11 and 195 so I'm not exactly the first person you'd think it happens too..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

absolutely fair opinion

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I've never cared if someone asked me about my tattoos. I usually find its people who regret the tattoo you ask about who get upset.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I think this is probably true. Or other people have given them flack and been critical, so they assume others will, too.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is very true. I feel even if someone doesnt like my tattoo, thats their opinion. I didnt get it for them, I got it for me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think people just get tired of people asking about it more than anything. They might have shit to do, or whatever.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Unless you're using a woman's tattoos to creep on her, then you just cut that shit out.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Disagree. Please mind your own business.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

I mean, treat it like shoes. Are you saying something about the tattoo that you wouldnt say about someone's shoes? Then keep your yap shut

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have lot, and I don't care. I just get tired of hearing did it hurt. Tattoos hurt, people just have varying levels of pain tolerance.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get that a lot too. I had some ask if it hurt mid tattoo while I was grimacing. I wanted to snap back "no, it feels like it's being (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Licked on by kittens" (stolen from Friends)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People get upset about that? Lol. Silly people. Though in fairness, generally speaking many people don't like strangers chatting them up.

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

I wish someone would come chat me up, but then I get irritated thinking I am boring, and want them to leave. The cycle is terrible. :(

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You sound fun.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I think it's fine to ask, just how it is fine to decline explaining the meaning.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

The amount of people who get offended when I don't want to explain the meaning is ridiculous.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The issue is that A) it's tiresome explaining to literally everyone who sees it and B) I don't know you and I'm not gonna tell you my story.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

100%. The one on my forearm is obscure, with a story that takes more than 30sec to tell. I'm not gonna repeat myself to every rando stranger

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

MRW people ask me about my tattoos. Seriously. I get so excited.

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

Tell me about your tattoos!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I have a Harry Potter tattoo on my wrist, the phases of the moon on my left foot, and the planets on my right foot :)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What's your Harry Potter tattoo?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Deathly Hallows symbol on my wrist. I eventually want to get a Harry Potter sleeve, but shit's expensive.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What inspired the moon phases and planets tats? They sound lovely!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am really into astrophysics and astronomy. I wanted to get tattoos that shared that love with everyone else :)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have the deathly hallows tattooed on my wrist! Both my Mom and sis, almost have the same one. Harry Potter 4 lyfe :D

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's what I have too!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just got one on my arm, but no one has commented on it. :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What is it of?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An Alphonse Mucha Poppy. Or the tattoo artist's interpretation of it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post a pic please =) I'd love to see it!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is right after I got it touched up today. Once it healed, the red was a bit patchy. /a/gIcLj

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Very cool

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One woman told me I was going to hell for my tattoos, and that I'm a horrible mom. I don't mind conversation/questions, but don't be a dick.

9 years ago | Likes 275 Dislikes 6

Well having Satan is our savior tatted around your neck isn't going to make religious nuts act normal, that's for sure.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My friend got a tat of a fantasy world she drew. Looks like a brain. Strangers see it and scream "BRAINS." She hates it, it makes me lol.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you get enough, moms become less confrontational and just tell their children you're the devil.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

more tattoos!!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe that's why she's mad, because she has a dick

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Possible.. I do not think I would be happy if I had a dick..

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I've got tattoos and piercings, was told I was going to hell

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except your not. Doubt she knows anything about her religion besides what someone told her.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Perhaps not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, never heard of anyone getting upset when asked about/complemented on their tats, as long as the askers aren't rude.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an atheist, I love when people bring hell or heaven in regards to myself. So much fun to see their outrageous faces when I laugh out loud

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah some people seem to feel that talking about your tattoos is an opening to tell you everything they think is wrong with tattoos.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once heard "someone needs to pray for you and your children" because of my ink. crazy how people are. My kids see a mother not a "freak"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ask away but don't be a horrible person when you do. 1 women told me that I was disgusting how I mutilate my body. I have a peony on my arm

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Perfect response would be: "I'm sorry it makes you feel that way. I'm also disgusted by how you mutilate your mind thinking that way"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I called her a cunt, I'm a tad more subtle in my approach

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I got the whole going to hell spiel too from a woman at work. "If God wanted us to have tattoos and piercings we would've been (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(2/2) born with them!" Don't personally know God, but I'm sure he's a little pickier about rape and murder than tattoos.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Right? I'm of the opinion God just doesn't care as long as we are good to others. Be Kind!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, I'll see you in hell. We can sit and have a bad mom's club. I have lots. I cover when I need to be "professional"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I cover when I need to be professional too. Otherwise tshirts and jeans!! I love my job.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Christian with tats....I'm so sorry .

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Why? You have nothing to be sorry for. Your religion does not make you rude. She was rude.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know I don't, but stuff like that just pisses me off and a "sorry" is all I have to give, since clearly that lady won't.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's alright, thank you for being angry on my behalf.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't have any tats. Yet. And people are horrified when I say I want one. It's not like I'm going to tat up my kid with my ideas. Yeesh.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I would.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Eh just tell her you'll see there

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had my children with me.. so I didn't say anything except telling her to have a good day. My kids don't need an argument.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always take the high road in front of the little ones. Good move

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I try to be the person I hope they will be when they are older.. kindness cost nothing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ask me about my tattoos if you want but dont mention my necklace of ear lobes.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why? What's wrong with your ear lobes and necklace?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

why whats up with your necklace and ear lobes?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

*Of. And they are trophies taken from people who ask about my tattoos.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

oh phew glad i didnt ask about your tattoos then

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't get mad when people ask, I get mad when people TOUCH me. I have have had numerous people grab my arm and ask to see them. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 144 Dislikes 0

Touching, not to even say grabbing, like that is IMO completely rude. If it's somehow acceptable where you live, you need to move and (1)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

leave the touchy-feely iidjits behind. Finland and it's ten foot personal space habits might work? (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ugh. Yes. All I want is my personal space.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Touch not okay. Nope.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2/2 it is 100% ok to ask but don't touch! Also, people shouldn't get offended if someone then turns them down. Sometimes I don't have time.

9 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 0

unwanted touch is always rude.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can't agree with you more. My biggest pet peeve by far.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Exactly. I have a tattoo from my hip to my ribs. I've had dudes in bars start pulling my shirt up to see more.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Ew. Gross! I'm sorry!!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whoa. Seriously? I'd stop my friend immediately and escort his inconsiderate ass out! That's fucking rude as fuck. Fuck.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yet it happens ALL THE TIME.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a lady, I will not hesitate to fish hook you with my pool cue.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I kinda creeped on your page bedsheet I was curious as to what you tattoo looked like, but I got distracted by cute dog

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's a pin up girl ;-) I do have cute dogs...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I plan on getting two in a month on my forearms. I understand that I will have people asking me about them and I have no problem with it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds cool. As a fairly inked up guy myself, though, gotta remind you about how tat location can affect job opportunities.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Ol ever lasting job stoppers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh I know. I intend to wear long sleeve shirts if necessary. I have one right now on my right arm that is always covered.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It always makes me happy when someone comments my tattoo, what's the point of having a visible one if you don't want to talk about it.

9 years ago | Likes 183 Dislikes 2

I personally love when people complement my tattoos. It makes me feel good because I know there can be a lot of bad ink done out there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Cuz it's to get attention, just not your attention.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unless it's a taco dressed in mexican clothes saying "I don't juan a taco about it."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like a giant brain on her shoulder. Everyone says "oh cool, a brain" and she HATES it. I can't help but laugh though

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have a vault girl on my left arm for this very purpose. It's my geek beacon, love talking to people about it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Conversely, I got my tattoos for ME and therefore don't wish to discuss them with people. But I don't like people in general so..

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

100%

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My friend got a tat of a fantasy world she drew herself thinking she'd get tons of attention for her drawing skills but it looks exactly 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't necessarily wanna tell strangers the meaning behind my more personal ones. But I don't shut anyone out. Plus, they're hard to (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cover (most are on my legs) when it's hot year round in Florida and I always have shorts on

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, my tats are for me, but I don't get offended if people ask about them. I like explaining them :-)

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Two sides to the same coin, eh? :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't get tattoos in general, but I really don't understand how it can be only for yourself and not for others to see. Can you elaborate?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

For me, the meaning behind some is very personal and only for me. Everyone can look and enjoy, but I don't share the reasons behind them

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because I literally wouldn't care if anyone else even saw or noticed them. They are for me, not anyone else, showing or not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got my first tattoo as a gift for myself for being 1 year self-harm free. That was a huge accomplishment at that time. I have it on my 1/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

inner wrist positioned so I have it the right way up. My tattoo artist wanted to have it the other way around so others can see it better 2/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but I wanted it this way around, because it was for me. I still like the rare occasions others ask me about it though. 3/3

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People often get tattoos as a reminder of impactful events, people, ideas, etc. Like the movie Memento but less overt.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If they are personal mementos, which are usually tiny and/or covered up to begin with, then I am completely fine with it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

See, but "you're completely fine with it" doesn't even enter into our minds. They aren't for you, so it doesn't matter if you are fine w/it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But dont you agree that the clearly visible ones has got to be for others to see?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2
