OK, where are the people complaining about people posting videos of someone doing something good? I know you're out there.

Thats dad reflexes already in training

That man is owed an all-you-can-eat steak dinner, at a bare minimum.

Any time I see a clip like this, I always think that if it were me doing the saving, the very first thing I'd most likely do after saving the kid would be to vomit and collapse.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

not all heros wear capes sometimes they wear slide sandals

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kid's like 11yo and already has dad reflexes.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I drive slow enough beside parked cars precisely for this reason.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and he was wearing slippers

Idiots could slow down a bit..

Looks like the beginning of an isekai anime. Protagonist is usually hit by a truck saving someone and reincarnated in another world.

Man, that is some Isekai Shit right there. Good he got her in time.

It's almost like those people shouldn't be driving 120mph down a tiny inner city street

It then I’m like…why are they crossing the street here?

Actually the big girl is the spotter. They are a team.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

100% true but one could also argue that the kid only ran on the street because those 2 were there.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Actually also kudos to the car slowing down too. Didn’t slow down fast enough, but the boy and the car together saved her life. And I’m surprised that guy runs so fast with balls of steel! Real impressive!

1 year ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

If the video had sound you’d hear them clanking

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I could hear it anyway.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but tbh the driver was going too fast for that environment

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah, f-ing moron

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yes, I realize that now. Such a small street to be driving so far!

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude was so close to going Yusuke Urameshi mode.

1 year ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

Damn, a Yuyu Hakusho reference in this day and age? Noice.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That shit is evergreen! Granted, some of the language in the English dub has not aged well and there are two depictions of transgender characters in less than respectable ways.

In spite of that, Yu Yu Hakusho is right up there with Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Akira, and so many other fucking legends.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't even remember the trans characters, though I suppose that is to be expected since I haven't seen it since I was pretty young and not aware of all this stuff.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In one of the early episodes, Yusuke’s mom is at a bar drinking with men dressed in drag. Both characters are voiced by men, one has facial hair, but she regards them as women.

While rescuing Ukina, Yusuke is fighting a female demon, when he questions how female she really is. In service of this he gropes her crotch to inspect for a penis. After the demon expressed outrage at being molested mid fight, Yusuke insists he doesn’t care about gender, and will fight men and women.

I saw this on Reddit first; the sheer amount of vitriol thrown at the woman was...enlightening. I guess. Half comments were commending this guy's reflexes and bravery, and half were ignoring that and shaming her. Reminds me why I like Imgur better. Respect for this guy's heroic instincts.

1 year ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 3

It's always easy to judge after the fact. People do it when they watch footage of an accident. Thing's like 'They has loads of time to dodge that car'. In reality, reaction time is a lot longer than people realise.

In the case of the clip above, it easy for us to say 'Why didn't she react to save the girl' but when placed in the same situation, I suspect many would react differently to what they'd think they would. Instinct, fear, indecision are involuntary.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What could even be said about her she did nothing wrong

1 year ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Yeah, exactly. Freezing, hesitating or just not running under a car are all completely normal instincts in a sudden dangerous situation.

1 year ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

It's that visceral, gut reaction of "She tried to stop him." I figure. They don't think to consider that maybe she didn't recognize the child, or she may have only thought about the guy next to her trying to jump out. It's a situation where a person's reaction would very much be tested, but from here, we only see things with a veneer of hindsight and full scope.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

She wasn't trying to stop him -- he hadn't even moved. She was trying to get him to go and do it, which is the main complaint. "No feminists in the trenches" kind of thing. I understand where the anger about this comes from, but I don't agree with it.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think you make a brilliant point about it not being fair to judge, but was she really trying to stop him? To me it looks like she had just seen the child and was trying to alert him about it, that instinctive tap/push for him to see and go, because he was standing a bit ahead of her already.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

And, I imagine that things such as that, perceptions based on personal biases are part of why the discourse can be so easily taken in a horrible direction. I had considered the option of her alerting him, but it makes more sense that the child didn't register and she wanted to stop him, rather than noticing the child sooner and not reacting on her own in the matter, because she reaches out to him first.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But if you watch the lady's line of sight, she does a little double take across the road at the child and then is looking left at the approaching car when she starts moving her arm towards the guy. She can't even see what he's doing before she starts to reach out to him. He's an arms length in front of her with a better chance of reaching the child.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was instinctive : save the child

Its a great instinct we have as an animal. We care for our young. But some are missing that. I've seen too many crime documentaries.

1 year ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

The best thing about bad instincts and the worst thing about good instincts is the same thing: They can often be suppressed.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fast as fuck too. Good man. He deserves a high five

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

God i can only hope I'd do the same in a situation like this. I almost blame myself for thinking i might not even if its not feasible to think so. Fuck.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I think I'd probably freeze. then feel guilt for the rest of my life

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think I'd half commit and maybe push her out the way and get sent flying by the car into an isekai

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

LOL

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. Besides self-preservation being big, a lot of people wouldn't have time to process it, freeze up, worry they couldn't make it, and on and on. Pretty much impossible to say though what we'd do. Sometimes you just react on instincts and do what you do, so if the time ever came you might surprise yourself. But unless you were actively trying to run her over, it doesn't mean you're a bad person.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks for that. Its kind of a recurring thing that I feel plays off that need to protect as a dude. I try to remind myself that its not about me or whatever. My instincts are fucked due to childhood stuff so idk. I'll just keep doing what i can consciously to do good.

Save the girl, save the world?

1 year ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

too bad that show only had one season. Wish they woulda made more...

She doesn't look like a cheerleader.

in 10 years, she could be

Why is that ridiculous line still floating through our collective consciousness?

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That is what a meme is, a shared morsel of knowledge. The memory/thought equivalent to a virus.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna believe because that the one and only season of the show was just so amazing that people still want more. Shame they never made anything past the first season.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dirk Gently, is that you?

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's actually from a show called heroes

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because we're in an Akshually chain... It's 'Save the Cheerleader, Save the World', but yeah, accurate on the show. Shame it never got a second season, or anything else.

That driver hammered the brakes too, but it wouldn't have been enough.

1 year ago | Likes 357 Dislikes 1

He wouldn’t if the boy hadn’t been on the Road.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At least this wasn't a US pickup. That thing would still be slowing down to this day.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The driver could maybe try driving at a speed appropriate for the situation next time, that works even better.

1 year ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 44

Agreed but it looks like all the cars are driving that speed so why is the child unattended? Parents have some responsibility here too, either to control the baby or teach them to not go in the street.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The average breaking distance at 20mph is 40 feet. There is a reason 2 car lengths is considered minimum safe following distance.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yes!!! 100% this!

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 26

Who knew to be a driver you need to be clairvoyant. Seriously you both can't be this stupid..

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

Believe it or not, the slower you go, the more you can react to.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

The slower you go the more dangerous it is as well because you're under the flow of traffic meaning you cause problems for everyone else around you. Believe it or not you're just an idiot using perfect world examples that make no realistic sense.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Clairvoyance? Nah. Anticipation? Yes. Tight, one way road, with pedestrians on narrow sidewalks, and cars parked on either side? I would be CRAWLING down that road assuming anyone can pop out last second. You 1000% have to assume someone can run out. I drive pretty aggressively on the highway where it’s necessary, but anywhere like this I’d trust no one to look before crossing

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You say this but I know you're one of those people that says one thing and does an entirely different thing. A lot of people do this when watching something. They think they'd do all these absolute perfect world things, but in actuality you wouldn't be doing anything like that. If the speed limit is set then you go that speed limit. Go under and you're also equally dangerous as going over.

The fact remains that the PARENTS of this girl are to blame. They should have taught her not to do that.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You can't really tell how fast that driver is going. Or where they were when the kid came into view. But even at 20 mph, it can take that long to stop a vehicle with reaction time figured in.

1 year ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 5

Yes I can - too fast, is how fast the driver was going. Any time you're going too fast to stop for an unanticipated event, you're going too fast.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 57

So basically, anytime you drive more than 15 mph. Even then, you could have a kid jump out from somewhere. Hell, I have known people who were hit by deer. They jump to cross the road and bam bounce off a door. Is that going too fast also?

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You're always driving too fast to stop for an unanticipated event.

1 year ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 3

Speak for yourself, I only drive at 5 mph and become the unanticipated event on the highway

1 year ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

So the driver is supposed to know the situation that's going to happen in the near future? You know the speed limit of this street? Do you know where it is? You should realize how stupid you're being, but you won't even realize it now with it staring you in the face.

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 17

We can discuss our thoughts and opinions without calling people stupid, it doesn't contribute to the discussion it just makes you look like an ass.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Found the idiot. Before you try to reply, you wouldn't be so offended by it if you didn't feel attacked by it. If someone's going to act like an idiot I'll call them an idiot whether you like it or not.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Sure go ahead, like I said it just makes you look like a twat so nobody will respect or listen to anything you say. I'm not offended, but I will call out toxic douchebaggery and if you want to double down on that, go for it.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

“Drive situational appropriately” is what I learned in driving school. Poor view, slow the fuck down. Wet street, slow the fuck down. Dude also doesn’t need to know where this is since small inner city streets are pretty universally set at 50-60km/h but every sane council puts “twenty is plenty” signs up (30km/h) since you are looking at 12 meters for 30kmh versus 30-40 meters (or even 40-60 meters @ 60kmh but that usually is four lane avenue type streets anyways).

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

You're entirely missing the point to push some weird thought you had.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

If I didn’t address your point then what was it?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When the driver can't completely evaluate the situation, they should slow down. I don't need to know what the limit is, the limit is the top end, it's not the minimum. People regularly step out between parked cars in an urban environment like in the video, their actual speed should reflect that reality. You're clearly terminally carbrained to think it's a drivers duty to drive at maximum velocity at all times no matter what.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 11

Car-brained idiots outnumber us all. No point trying to appeal to their non-existent empathy or logic. The rules of a basic driver's handbook are a total after-thought to them, if even a consideration at all. Bet they don't even pull over to the side for emergency vehicles, unless it is a cop who can ticket them, no common courtesy among these entitled assholes

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You never know the complete situation happening anywhere at any time. So your solution is to drive like a snail everywhere you go? What about the fact the parents of this girl should have taught her not to run out in the street? Why are you idiots blaming the driver clearly driving on the street at the same speed as everyone else? Your solution is idiotic anyone with an ounce of logic can see that.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

1.3 million people are killed every year in motor vehicle crashes. How many people are killed by having a child bump into them?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Bro was keeping pace with traffic in front of him. I've had people try to run me off the road for doing such. Drivers are INSANE.

1 year ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 7

That's not an excuse, if all the other traffic was also going too fast.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

Speed limits account for more than just the road condition itself. but also factors like line of sight.

I know this, because daily, i drive past a memorial to someone killed pulling out from an intersection on a blind corner, when someone was doing just 10k(6m)ph over the speed limit swerved around the blind corner and couldn't stop. If they had not been speeding, they could have avoided the accident. Instead, they squashed the deceased into a telegraph pole. Speed limits are not arbitrary.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So your whole argument is that they should've been going the speed limit... Which is WHAT I FUCKING SAID
