Never stop trying ! Everyone started at the bottom low at some point !

I did only 20 to 40 minutes of cardio 2 times a week. Focusing on breathing seems to be the key for me ;)

Next challenge is 3x20. Then 2x30 !
Then 3x30 !!

Edit : Wew that's a lot of upvotes ! Thank y'all and glad I got some of you motivated :)

Just a heads up for people asking : It's very normal to be out of breath and exhausted after like 2/3 minutes of running when you have not done sports for months/years
Just get yourself 2 minutes of rest, then keep doing it until you can reach 2m30. Then 3, then 5, then 7... You'll get better everytime. For tips, well I personnally find good rythm with belly breathing (Nose breath-in, mouth breath-out). And it seems to actually make a great deal of difference. Maybe you'll like something else. Just try.

Oh, and if you don't want to go out yet, just do it in your appartment/house with some music, running back in forth on 10m or so is enough to get you all worked up really. I started with that really :)
Keep motivated friendos !

Edit 2 : Oh ye thats enough for FP ! Thanks

Just dont take breaks ever

@op That's great! Over the last month I went from a 14:XX mile to a 11:35 mile. Small wins like that make me so happy.

I could just make 1min on the 3min Step Test. After a few months I can do 4min without stopping. Also have PTSD from the metronome.

Feeling and seeing those gains is always so encouraging. Well done!

Keep it up! I am getting back into running as well and it sucks at first. Here’s to hoping the knees hold.

I miss running. I tried running again after a 6 month recovery from a surgery and I got bad shin splints. Can’t get rid of them. Any tips?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Before my back injury, I was able to get up to a 17 min mile on a treadmill. I miss that feeling of accomplishment. Keep it up @OP!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doooo it!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great work! My first goal was to run a mile (which was lofty then), now about 3 years later I am a marathoner. Keep it up :)

Only recently started my own running journey. Set little goals and you’ll be amazed how quickly you meet them. Oh, and visit r/running.

Living in the year 3X15

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So......45 minutes?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yay?happy heart happy heart ????

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also started running this year, and I like it a lot! Realised I can set my own pace and distance, and I really enjoy being outside.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Started marathon training yesterday, made it 7 minutes into my first run and fell in hole. Sprained my ankle, no running for 2 weeks now.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit :( I'm sorry for ya. I hope you won't abandon yet ! We all learn from our mistakes alright :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got out of breath just googling what a 3x15 is

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

now go eat!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maffetone Method, my friend. I went from barely finishing a half to finishing a 50k. Faster 5k, too.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

HOW did you make it 3 mins without getting out of breath?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Focusing on breathing & know your heart rate. It makes all the difference

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly the very first tries were more of "10*2minutes" than 3 :D. Just try more and more !

What is the "X"?

Hope your knees hold up. I miss running.

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

This is one of the reasons why I decided to take up swimming recently. Not as hard on the joints.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why have you stop ?

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Because their knees couldn't take it

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Destroyed ACL late 80's, several dislocations, hit by a car when training for half marathon equals osteoarthritis.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hot damn :( I'm very sorry for you :(

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you have knee issues, try riding a bike on some days and running on others

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Running is out of the question. Looking at knee replacement surgery in the future.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what exactly is a 3x15? with my lack of knowledge, that just comes out to 45 arbitrary units.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I specified minutes so pretty sure it's minutes. 3 times 15 minutes of running

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh three sets of 15 minutes, okay yeah. See I don't work out, so I don't understand the shorthand.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck man, this post got inspired

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Heck ye, go do a little run mate :D even if it's only for 20 minutes in your house :o

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well done. Like with most physical training, twice a week is actually enough to progress. Same goes for building muscle mass.

6 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 3

I'd love to read more on that. I've always felt a failure if I'm not doing 3x per week minimum - which is usually so hard with kids.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It’s been proven for lifting weights that if you’re a beginner that once a week per muscle group is enough and there is no statistical (1/x)

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Benefit to twice or more. It’s when you become an intermediate/advanced lifter that higher frequency is beneficial if not required.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is true i did a long 3 hour full body workout in the gym once a week my second year of working out in the gym when i was 17, i improved

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How so?

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

An important part of exercising is rest periods so your body can recover and build up muscle. If you don’t rest, progress will be slower.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's true for untrained healthy people. Source: Physiologist and cpt.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lifting weights twice a week is easily enough to progress. I know because I did it

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've built my mass, too, working out just twice a week. People are always surprised, expecting you to say that you lift 4-7 times a week.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Many variables in place, including your starting fitness and muscle mass levels. Not quite as easy or effective as indicated.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

How do you mean 'focus on breathing'? I'm starting running and looking for tips.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me I breath slow, deep breaths and try to take the same amount of steps between inhaling/exhaling. I didn't think I was a runner.. but

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After reading these comments apparently my cardio is really good. I run on the treadmill for 1 hour, regardless of distance.I also monitor..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My heart rate to keep it between 140-160bpm while running. That's my personal comfort zone..I'm not a trainer so this may not be good advice

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You try to focus on keeping your breathing as smooth, deep, and consistent as possible. Then, when you get more advanced you count the amou

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amount of paces you take in between each breath and optimize it to your stride and pace.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was recommended not to listen to music and get a proper breathing routine. So thats what I tried and

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

after feeling different things, I end up doing nose breath-in and mouth breath-out. Belly out when breath-in and belly in for breath-out

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats what they call belly breathing. But there are other way of breathing. Depends on people feels :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How? I ran constantly in the Army for 8 years and NEVER felt good after 15 minutes of running.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Same. 11 years in the Air Force and ran a LOT. Never got that BS runner’s high. Fuck running.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Runners high is a real thing! Takes a long fucking time to kick in though. I only got it after 6 miles & 1 hour on a treadmill.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How's so ? Maybe you had no joy of going through it ? But I do. For my breathing problem, my heart, my morale... Ye everything's great

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's what confuses me. Other humans seem to think running is fine, but even in my most absolute fit prime I was sucking wind as soon as

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hit the 2-3 minute mark, and just suffered through every single second thereafter. The idea of running 15 and feeling awesome during it

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

sounds olympian to me. I don't know how I was breathing so "wrongly".

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The harder, faster, and out of rhythm you breath the more energy you burn. Also, you over work and tire out your diaphram too quickly.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went from 7 harsh minutes to 15 quite hard minutes. A friend of mine recommend me to focus on breathing. So i tried the belly breathing
