My boss offered me a major promotion and I've been working here since May. I occasionally fly off somewhere to be an extra set of hands and by my entire department's recommendation they want to promote me. When I work at home I don't know what I'm doing and I'm just joining meetings... No complaints here!

Sounds like you're ready for the next job after that!

Save your money. Often times companies promote into a new position for short term "looking good on paper growth" only to cut redundant or unnecessary positions later.
I'm not a business person but I've heard companies, and government agencies do this.
Be well, and congrats.

That's how my previous job was and they fired me the day I started my new promotion. For this one a long-standing higher up is moving up and he recommended me directly after a couple of jobs to take over his position. Apparently our boss then spoke to the entire department about my performance.
I'll definitely keep it mind though and I've been cramming my entire paycheck into savings since I started ๐

Damn that cheap bottle of cologne is working wonders then lol

Meet with your boss and ask what you might best tackle to take the pressure off him. That will point you in the right direction.
Distractus
I will definitely do that ๐ I've been offering to help wherever I can but nobody is really sending me work. According to him it takes a solid year to get properly trained up for this job

Some places (like law firms) expect you to farm work from management. As in, go around and collect work from managers, rather than having tasks assigned to you. Might be good to find out if that is the expectation here.

I'm working on the same thing, gonna be a supervisor, turns out, the company needs supervisors to sign permits...... We're all fucking supervisors. Fuck, even the fucking apprentice is a fucking supervisor. Fuck, fuck, fuck....... Oh, I do actually get a pay increase.... Where do I sign?

Yeah I feel that I'm moving from a contract work network technologist to jr lead network engineer. It's more or less the same but with me leading small teams. I've been able to apply my skills well and there are things I know that others don't which surprised me but it's still a big jump.

Maybe you need to have some confidence in your boss' view of the matter. Sounds like you're figuring it out, and your boss see this and so sees you as a good long-term hire.

Thanks ๐ I needed that

Not knowing what the job involves is the first step to losing said job

You are correct ๐ I've been researching internal documents from my company and I have a good gist of what we do but I've yet to tackle a full project by myself since they take years
daychilde
Not knowing what the job involves means you can't screw the job up. Instant promotion!
Distractus
Funny thing is I've directly told my boss I'm just kinda sitting here reading over definitions and learning the internal lingo and he said that's exactly what I'm supposed to be doing at this stage. According to him it takes a year or so to get the full gist of my job

That's really great. If it's worth improving the material you are studying from now (maybe for yourself, to make it all coherent and an easier resource to reference, or any other reason), you might consider asking if you could get a bonus for something like that to be made alongside your learning. (And it would probably make it easier and faster to fully process and memorize, but we don't have to mention that...)
