I swear I'm not crazy... well not that sort of crazy.

At the request of a few of you wanted a more detailed post of conspiracies that turned out to be true (or have pretty overwhelming evidence). I'm not an expert on this topic, nor do I put faith in a lot of conspiracy theories. Also this isn't a definitive list of known conspiracies just stuff I happened to come across. There are still several more.

EDIT:
@YourFriendlyNeighborhoodPsychonaut provided me w/ this link where you can find a definitive list of conspiracy theories that turned out to be true.
https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/wiki/locc
I'm not a big fan of this list since it includes things I don't believe have proper evidence (ie the business plot to kill FDR). So I take it w/ a grain of salt.

Dark Alliance

Before 1996 if you would of said that the CIA had a hand in the crack epidemic in the US you would of been called crazy. After Gary Webb's investigation though it's become a pretty accepted conspiracy theory. His book Dark Alliance details the CIA's connections to South American Contra groups, the Reagan administration, and the DEA. Even further down the rabbit hole Gary Webb's life was ruined after the books release, and he "committed suicide" shooting himself in the face twice. Oh also if you don't want to read Dark Alliance, but still want to know more there's a film called "shoot the messenger" staring Hawkeye which focuses more on Webb's life.

Project MKUltra

Even today people don't believe (or don't know) that the CIA attempted mind control experiments using US citizens as test subjects despite the Church Committee findings in 1977, and the FOIA public release of 20,000 MKUltra documents in 2001. Overall the full extent of the MKUltra experiments remains a mystery since a majority of the documents were destroyed in 1973.

Tuskegee syphilis experiment

The U.S. Public Health Service under the guise of providing free healthcare left hundreds of syphilis infected men untreated even 20 years after penicillin was found to easily cure the disease. They even went as far as discouraging the participants from seeking treatment elsewhere.

Operation Northwoods

In 1962 the DOD, and JCS proposed performing a series of false-flag operations to garner support to invade Cuba. Luckily President Kennedy shot down the idea. If you mentioned this before November 6th 1998 you probably would of been called crazy.

The Iran-Contra Affair

Ok so this one didn't really have enough time to settle into "theory" territory before being accepted by the media. In 1985 and 1986 the Reagan administration gave authorization to provide weapons in exchange for the release of U.S. hostages. In 1987 this was under investigation by congress, and eventually Reagan took full responsibility.

The BCCI Scandal

The BCCI was once the 7th largest bank in the world. It also turned out to be a huge scandal. Basically it had been setup to avoid as many bank regulations as possible which in turn lead to it being involved in everything from money laundering to terrorism.

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident essentially started the Vietnam war... the problem is it actually never happened. According to NSA historian Robert J. Hanyok the NSA deliberately distorted intelligence reports passed to policy makers regarding the August 4, 1964 incident.

Operation Ajax

Basically the CIA overthrew a democratically installed government in Iran all because of oil, and eventually led to the Iran Hostage Crisis. For years people said the CIA was involved, but there was no proof until records were released in 2000.

Operation Snow White

Operation Snow White was the biggest known infiltration of the US government's history. With an estimated 5,000 covert agents successfully infiltrating government offices. The biggest surprise is that the church of Scientology sent these agents. The aftermath resulted in 5 church members being sentenced to 4 years in jail.

Operation Gladio

First publically revealed by the Italian Chamber of Deputies on October 24, 1990, and officially recognized in 2006 by the US State department it's still unclear exactly what black ops were performed under Operation Gladio. Essentially it was a covert stay behind effort in Europe to fight the spread of communism. It's been accused of several false flag, and terrorist attacks across the EU.

CIA Murders

So during the church commitee investigations we found out that the CIA killed a lot of people in various ways. One of which was a heart attack gun which was practically undetectable at the time. Other various methods included auto accidents, skiing accidents, cancer, and also good ol' fashioned shooting people.

The Bilderberg Group

For years the Bilderberg group meetings were dismissed as crazy conspiracies, but recently they've finally admitted group meetings occur but still insist there's no agenda other than co-operation between the NA and EU. The Bilderberg group meetings consists of the worlds most powerful people meeting (pretty much every US president except GW Bush), and it's unknown what actually goes on there.

1919 Black Sox Scandal

Probably the most well known sports rig in history 8 men were charged w/ fixing the world series after being paid off by gamblers. It didn't take long for this conspiracy theory to turn into conspiracy fact all 8 players were banned from baseball by 1921.

I went to one of the Bilderberg meetings in the 80s. Not much to say about it, other than the cheesecake. It was chocolate marble!

The Tuskegee study is something 10th graders are taught about (briefly) in NY now. Fascinating and horrifying.

This is pretty much a list of why I have sympathy for the more logical conspiracies. Then there's shit like lizard people.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ouch. I like your post, but all your "would of"s should read "would've" because you're saying "would have."

MKULTRA is why you never trust the government to have good intentions with wanting to classify information.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Oddly enough TIL Whitey Bulger and the Unabomber were put through the MK Ultra program. Bulger said it took him to the "depths of insanity"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But they both turned out fine, so no need to worry.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Next thing we hear is that #OP has committed suicide by shooting himself in the head twice and this post has been taken down.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

It was suicide. You'd have to be a pretty big nutjob to think otherwise.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bilderberg "conspiracy" = rich dudes being rich dudes. The "dark alliance" was a huge nothing burger 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The CIA made this mistake of employing smugglers and shady characters who then turned to the cartels. Big surprise.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People think the middle east destabilized itself and Iran is inherently evil and just hates us. The US and Britain had a lot to do with it.

Oh, and can you explain Islam's expansion into Spain, Constantinople, and Malta? No, Islam calls for jihad against everyone.

How does the heart attack gun fire the darts because ice would normally just melt due to the heat of being fired.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's fired with pressurized CO2 rather than combustion so that removes a lot of the heat

I don't know if you can say Reagan took "full responsibility", he still pretended to not have prior knowledge until the day he died.

9 years ago | Likes 249 Dislikes 7

It's called 'being the guy at the top'.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

He took responsibility because it happened under his administration and he should have caught it not because he was involved.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

^ This. He wasn't directly involved but the people under him (who did it) were.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to defend the criminal, but towards the end, he probably didn't have any knowledge of it. Alzheimer's will do that.

Not at the time, but actually losing all memory is harsh poetic justice for his literal treason. But we impeach Bill for adultery. SMH

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Well, no. Bill was impeached for Obstruction of Justice and lying under oath (perjury). He obstructed and perjured DUE to his adultery.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Except he weaseled out of technical perjury even though they had not damn right to even wast time on such stupid inquiries.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They had every damn right. He broke the law while serving as President. That's impeachable. Read some unbiased stories on it. Interesting.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He was tried for a crime he committed because they were investigating something irrelevant to his job?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

funny thing is that the majority of people would still deny that the government is capable of any of this stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

I think most people would instead (correctly) understand that one event doesnt prove another, and that it is fundamentally irrational to

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Believe something without sufficient evidence. Most conspiracy theorists really dont grasp these two concepts

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

true but if the CIA was a person, and that person had done bad things, most people would not trust that person again.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the CIA isnt a person, its an ever-changing group of people, similar to -say- all black people.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you make a good point, but then things tend to repeat themselves, like politicians lying

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Note: this isn't proof that Conspiracy X is true. Real conspiracies are rare and tend to fall apart, so evidence needs to be extraordinary.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

::sigh:: By "Conspiracy X", I mean your favorite conspiracy theory. Please don't make "Conspiracy X" into a thing. That's what They'd want.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'd do one for those which turned out not to be, but I don't have the 50 years it would take to put the post together

9 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 10

Dude, 7/11 WAS a part time job. Wake up, you sheep

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

I've made up new conspiracy theories when bored. Not that they gained any traction, I'm just saying it's easy to do.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...that sound pretty suspicious to me...what's you real motivation?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Creative writing practice actually

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A likely story...we'll have to have you watched

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't need 50 years. Like 50 new retarded conspiracy theories happen every week

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Well, if there's 50 a day, I'm definitely never going to catch up

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

This is pretty mixed bag. Some verified, some lingering-but-not-debunked, and some are scandals that aren't really "conspiracy" as we use it

9 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 11

With that silly heart attack gun thrown in for proper batshit craziness.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Another important point: most of these were not ever 'conspiracy theories,' but just fucked up shit that came out after the fact.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Really that's the most important fact since OP is claiming "turned out to be true".

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also, @OP for the syphilis one, you should've included that they purposely targeted blacks for that.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Wondering why people care more about his grammar than this

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hard to take your post seriously when you open with Gary Webb. His own wife confirmed it was suicide, don't lump it with his CIA-drug thing.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

1) In OP's defense, she was his ex of about four years at the time, and he *did* say "widely accepted conspiracy theory" in the details on

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3) washingtonpost has an OpEd on some of the failures in journalistic rigors on Webb's reports, worth a read, link's too long.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

While the government does lie, distrust in the government is a real problem. For everyone. The gov, the people, and the country.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

And yet the burden of responsibility here ought to be on government. We cannot blindly trust opaque agencies or administrations.

OP switched "of" and "have" but the verb tenses in your example are inconsistent. boiii

9 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 5

I'm not a native speaker and it drives me crazy to read that shit. Only native speakers would write 'of' instead of 'have'.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't be a massive baby.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Erm. Thats like the first thing we learn?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Hardly. If you see someone writing "should of", they're probably a native speaker.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

I've pretty much never seen non-natives (I am one myself) do that mistake. It's pretty specific to natives since we learn differently

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I give a bit lenience on this one. When you're speaking, you tend to shorten it to "would've",which sounds like it could be written "would of"

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 19

It's the kind of mistake you should only make once, though.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

And would've is valid to write. Consistently writing "would of" will cause you to repeat the third grade.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Hence my follow up. Once is forgivable if you hadn't seen it written down before, IMO.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

OP needs to learn the difference between the words 'of' and 'have'

9 years ago | Likes 713 Dislikes 36

Mean what you say and say what you mean gets absolved by general interaction. Like me saying, "fuck you." Im sure you get what I mean.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 43

That is my biggest pet peeve, and I'm so glad someone else called it. I'm literally twitching in distress after reading all of that.
