Found this gem on Imgur years ago. One of the best recipes I have ever come across. A hit at every get-together!

Top them off with minced onion, chopped cilantro and a squeeze of lime. I find they're best on corn tortillas.

Looks easy and delicious.

Real carnitas are made in a cazo which is basically a giant saucepan and is made with lard and also orange juice or beer

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is not Carnitas.

Everyone's giving you crap about the recipe, but I just made this and it tastes fantastic! Maybe it's not REAL carnitas, but it's delicious

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've made these countless times. They are fantastic. Super easy too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Finally, I was tired of carnitas needing foreplay.

You sir are an angel in devil's clothing hot and high at the same time. So mild!!

Took me way to long to realize it meant a single 4lb-6lb piece of pork, not 4 6lb pieces, I was thinking "why the hell you need 24lbs?"

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hehe. Pork butt.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If it's so easy why won't you come over and make me some, I just woke up and I'm hungry

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The oven part is essential! Don't skip that part! So good!

For anyone who doesn't know, you'll probably want to remove the bay leaves after most of the liquid boils away.

You said butt! teehee

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Great recipe, but definitely not Carnitas.

I make lame-ass American Carnitas with Hard Cider in a Crock Pot. No cutting the meat though. Similar recipe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If only I could eat cilantro and not taste soap

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, I used to think that, too. Ate enough of it to get past it eventually. Now, I can't get enough

In south Texas you'd take out the veins and seeds of red dried chilies boil then blend with garlic and probably some other stuff...but..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'd brown the meat barely cover it with water and throw in the blended chilies...I think.i got a link

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As a Mexican... This is not how you do it at all. Carnitas are fried pork, fried in lard. Like cracklin. This is a nice lazy way though.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

A lot of traditional Mexican dishes call for lard. Lard is still pretty bad for you.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

Well then fry it in vegetable oil .... but "roasting" in your oven isn't even close. It's like comparing ice cream to some dirt ...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

lard is not bad for you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Believe and cook with what you will, lard is a delicious ingredient but not healthy. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/transfats/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

shouldn't there be a lime involved somewhere?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I squeeze them on top of the tacos when they're done. Thanks for mentioning that. I'll add it in the description.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Love this recipe make it but monthly and freeze portions in salsa containers is like six tacos worth

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These are NOT carnitas, you uncultured swine

9 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 12

At least, the tacos looks like real tacos and not like those "U" shaped tostadas that pretend to be tacos.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Care to share your version? :) pretty please!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, I will post a recipe soon and tag you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're made with lard and other spices also must add beer or orange juice

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok. But we're not asking for a picture. We want a whole post like the one above.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'll try and provide one soon

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

My reaction after reading the recepie and having made carnitas in el cazo

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 7

How about you? Care to enlighten us? Everyone is complaining but not contributing anything...

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Pro-tip: lose a pint of the chicken broth and add a beer.

9 years ago | Likes 278 Dislikes 13

US pint or British pint? Almost a 100 ml difference here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well since the recipe called for quarts of Stock... adjust as necessary.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Use Dr Pepper for a sweeter flavor

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FUCK. YES.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always add beer or wine to any recipe. Vodka to batter and a 6 pack when smoking or bbqing for yourself.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Nice mod. Thanks for that.

Mexican corner stand tip: lose the beer and add Coca Cola. That's how you get the caramelized crust.

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Beer will give you that too, also should have some Orange juice in it, but yeah. Beer's too expensive for the corner stands.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

What about dissolving a stock cube in beer then using that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's that in liters?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

GIYF. it is 20 Liters. Or Litres

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'll use freedom units and you'll LIKE it.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A pint is slightly less than half a liter

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Celiac pro-tip: tell that to your friends, in case they are gluten intolerant.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 12

Second that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I figure that if those friends arent total fucksticks, they would bring up dietary restrictions far before you start cooking

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All 1 of them?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What does that do?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

When beer cooks, you tend to get a nice, yeasty/hoppy taste in the meat, and the alcohol tenderizes meat to a degree.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Adds a layer of flavor. I've always done it ever since my Mexican nanny showed me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Flaaaavorrrrr!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

+1 on the beer. A little bit of orange zest or orange juice too

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Fucking this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Made me look at the OP again. It's not Carnitas wthout the orange IMHO.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Slice an orange and throw it in, rind and all

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, that makes it too bitter.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Don't know why I didn't think of that considering I put beer in almost every other recipe

9 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 2

because the flavor of hops is heavily over powered by peppers

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The recipe I use from Michoacan calls for orange juice and/or pineapple juice. Makes it super tender and gives a nice complexity.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Beer and wine in cooking always turns it up a notch. BAM!

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It's even better when you add some to the food, too.
