the setup

using just pvc, a flat socket bolt, and a cheap pico-projector you can add an incredible depth to your next D20 game!

the projector mount

just use a 1/4-20 flat screw through a 3/4 PVC coupler to make the mount. feed power and HDMI through the interior of the PVC. nice and clean.

another shot.

Using roll20 to add fog of war and make the maps much more interactive. this is still a work in progress.

this is bad ass!

Cost?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a clever and cheap solution. The best kind of solution.

Roll20 is savage, my dm is so old he don't even know what it is.... in his defence he has all the maps and a nice table lol

I feel like this would be better if you projected from the bottom of the table duo you wouldnt have shadows

Mount that bitch to the ceiling, bitches love ceilings

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out Fantasy Grounds, their client system is much better. Just sayin'

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice, though as clumsy as my group is my fear would be of it getting knocked off the table/

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

my table is awfully crowded right now it looks much less hazardous centered on the table, the projector weighs almost nothing so not too bad

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is clever as hell, well done!

Let the guys at Glass Cannon know about this...

I wish this wouldn't have died in development https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n94E3IeBquY

Portable might be a stretch. Schleppable maybe.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We get it, you vape.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Schedule 80 pvc would be more rigid if you want to get rid of the flex.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Agreed. That thing probably wobbles like nobody's business.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately this may prove a little inconvenient if you choose to use physical miniatures or tokens :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Arrgl... I swear, everyone everywhere has access to D&D style groups. Here its "Soccer this, Soccer that".. Nothing else

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would like to use this to play HeroQuest

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For version two you need one that project up so your minis don't cast shadows

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We need a portable solution since we play at different houses, also you'd need a projector with a lot more punch to to do rear projection.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is it really that much of a problem? If it projects downward I would assume shadows would be minimal

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bet you have sick clouds with that vape bro

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With fiducial and a webcam you can make some tangible and interactive meeples to work with your game, I don't know if rool20 has any API

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm debating getting a friends kinnect and playing with some object detection software, would be great if moving tokens would scroll the map

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be awesome. A decade ago I tried with a friend to do this https://irtaktiks.codeplex.com/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But we needed to discard the fiducial marker as the under the table setup blurred it. And I think nobody want to se dark drawings over

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

their meeple. With a kinect you could identify each one by the format, and it will be better.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually amazing. You should kickstart it or something, there are dozens of us who would spend money on this lol

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A Kickstarter for something you can knock together with a few bits from a plumbing supplies store, really?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dozens!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Finally! A DIY project I don't need a goddamn set of machinery to do.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

yep, just a drill. the nice people at home depot will even cut the PVC for you.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think I love you for sharing this project. Gonna try set something like this for my GURPS group, maybe for xmas this year...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My only problem with this set up is it would be terrible if you used minis of any sort which makes me sad =(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since the image is projected 90° overhead- shadows are minimal. Also eliminates the need for keystone adjustment.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Less about the shadows (though that would still be an issue if even slight) more about the paintjobs being washed out by the projection.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

an easy workaround is using a white dot as a token in roll20 - basically your mini's own personal spotlight.

We're getting closer and closer to functioning Duel Disks.

All I want is for my holograms to explode my opponents when I beat them extra hard. Is that so much to ask?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Several years ago Microsoft was working on a different device they call a surface https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n94E3IeBquY

I still have my plastic duel disk. That thing was my most sought-after Christmas gift of my entire childhood. I was obsessed with YGO.

Blue Eyes. Blue Eyes everywhere

more importantly, OP is that a nano reef on the bench?

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

it is! the edge is a beautiful horrible design. it looks amazing, but any maintenance is a huge pain.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The edge was the hugest pain in the ass. Focused attention on nanocube

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fluval edge was my first nano too, ive now got a 4ft sps reef and a 3gal pico

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
