Aye, that's rough. Sorry, fren. Neither of my full arrests made it either. Hope you're doing okay.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
I appreciate it. Being very open about it to internet strangers is helping. I'm sorry you had two

A person who needs CPR is already dead, so you can't fail - and success is rare. You tried, and that counts for those who know.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
I appreciate that

I've never done chest compressions, but have to get recertified every year. The "reality check" part of the class is more prevalent each one
BlueCanaryInTheOutletByTheLightSwitch
My company started using a new program where we recertify every 3 months. It's a pain, but it helps keep your skills fresh.
BlueCanaryInTheOutletByTheLightSwitch
Luckily, it's free for us and we can do it during our shifts whenever we get an opportunity.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
Its so important. I'm not currently certified but was in the past and I'm so thankful for the skills I learned. I'm getting recertified ASAP
TheLlamaLordsofScience
My certification is the only thing keeping me somehwat okay. Its been years but I stayed behind in the class toask questions
sniggly5212
I hope I never have to carry a load like that. I hopecyou know how to find someone to talk to.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
My partner and family are huge pillars of support. I'm very lucky. I've been doing nothing but talking to them

The survival rate of out of hospital cardiac arrest is dismal. You did your best and gave that person their best chance.
drduffer
The take home here should be that without CPR, no one survives. The fact that some survive is a testament to Basic Life Support and Early >

> Defibrillation. What would be good to know is whether Early Defibrillation was available where he lives. ⬆️
chittychittybangbanglovesustoo
I've seen pilot projects trialling defib delivery to a patient's side via drone. Interesting idea for remote settings
TheLlamaLordsofScience
I can only agree due to being CPR certifiedin the past...without tht I would be in deeper pit of despair
drduffer
You did everything right. I hope you don’t come away from this thinking you didn’t.
chittychittybangbanglovesustoo
The family would be comforted knowing that you did your best to help their loved one, and that they weren't alone. That would comfort me.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
I appreciate that.i still wish I could have done more. I'm getting recertified ASAP
BlueCanaryInTheOutletByTheLightSwitch
Yeah, that happened to me back in December. It sticks with you. Sorry.
TheLlamaLordsofScience
Any advice?
BlueCanaryInTheOutletByTheLightSwitch
Talk to someone. A significant other, a therapist, your coworkers, just talk it out. Take some time off, if you can.

Ultimately, I had to change jobs for my mental health. I left pediatrics and went into dialysis.
