Grandpa Jiggs finally got to see his cubbies break the curse.

He's been a lifelong Cubs fan living in a Cardinals town. On and off hospice for a few months, but got to watch game 7, and see something he's wanted to since he was a boy. We always joke he'll outlive us all, just glad he got to outlive the curse. From one Cards fan/grand-son-in-law/husband to a "GD Saint Louisian", "Way to go cubbies."

legend has is if they lost he would live another 108 years

What I also find interesting is that my grandpa's nickname is 'Jiggs!' I've never heard of anyone with a nickname close to that!

*plot twist -Grandpa was the curse. He died in the 9th inning allowing Cubs to win.

Just about every Cubs fan has a parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, who lived and died a full life without seeing this happen. Sobering.

This is great. Thanks for sharing.

The biggest Cubs fan I knew unexpectedly died last year. I wish he could be here for this.

I loved him already at "Granpa Jiggsy." Then the smile. Then the story. I want to adopt him now.

So awesome to see all these photos. I called my Dad last night whose waited 69 1/2 years. My great aunt is also 90. Amazing. So happy!!! :)

Thanks for this, made my day!

has he been alive since 1908? that has gotta suck. "when you were born, chicago was CURSED"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I'm a White Sox fan & live in San Diego but I swear I could hear my aunt (die hard Cubs fan) screaming from Chicago. Way to go Cubbies!

Very few times do I consider a sport to be bigger than the sport itself. This World Series was an amazing example of one of those times

I always thought that idea of a curse was stupid. And while I am disappointed that Cleveland didn't get it, this is great for Cubs fans. :)

That is brilliant! Go Grandpa Jiggsy (what a great name!) : )

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He looks so happy!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My great-uncle got to watch his Bears beat my Vikings the night before he passed. Glad your wife's grandpa got to see his team win!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Cleveland fan, I'm glad! What a wild ride!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Clevelander here, it was, I lost my voice at that Davis tying home run. What a game. We'll get it next year, for sure

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't sleep! So many tired people today!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The cubs are a young team too, we'll see ya there!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet I'll outlive him.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People like him are why I'm happy for the Cubs.

Amen

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i know right

Does everyone just forget that the Indians haven't won since 1948? I'm sure Cleveland would have had plenty of these stories, too.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 25

The last time the cubs even went to the world series was 1946, so yeah....Kinda bigger deal. But I'm from Chicago so obvious bias. GO CUBS!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yea but like, thats significantly less than 108 years

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

How old is he op? That's so cool to see!

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

80 - 100 or so hard to tell with older people

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helooks about as old as dirt.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

45.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Well it says he outlived the curse so I deduce that he is 109 years old!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prob wasn't born before it...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was he alive the last time they won?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No one alive today has seen the cubbies win a world series.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

had*

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Excellent point!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you'd be > 111 years old; there are 14 americans that old: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_supercentenarians_from_the_United_States

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hm, that's a good point. Buuuuut counterpoint: there wasn't TV back then - how many of them do you think *saw* the cubs win?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

plot twist: every single one of them was a team member of the Cubs; they played pro ball at age 3 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't say did they see it, I said were they alive

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't care the slightest about the cubs, but an old man finally seeing his favorite team win, that makes me happy.

9 years ago | Likes 1786 Dislikes 6

Same. I hate just about every sport, but this makes me smile.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The best thing I'll see all day. So happy for grandpa

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't care too much about football but I always hope in vain the England will win in each world cup because my dad's been waiting for it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know a thing about baseball but seeing people so ecstatic like this is great :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
