Centralia, Pennsylvania, USA. Also cool.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Christ of the abyss was dropped intentionally, not abandoned. I was meant to draw divers.

12 years ago | Likes 252 Dislikes 2

It's also an incredibly metal name. Jesus of the Abyss. \m/

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

But everybody knows Jesus wouldn't just sink like that...

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Also, I've seen the same technique used to "build" coral reefs and give the organisms something to attach to.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude you get really good wifi for being in an abyss.

Ummm. The House of the Bulgarian Communist Party reminds me of the Vader and Luke dual in Empire Strikes Back.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

City Hall Subway Station is NOT Abandoned, which is why it still looks decent. The 6 train uses it to loop back uptown.

12 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

it is abandoned- since 1945. the station is closed 2 the public. just because you drive by something doesn't mean it's not abandoned

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

HELL NO! Cowabunga!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

youre right. because that's where the tmnt's live.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

it hasn't been used as an actual subway stop since 1945, is what i meant. the only "usage" of the station is the 6 driving by.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, but the station itself is not truly abandoned as the MTA still has regular access and use for it, unlike other actually abandoned ones.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They still keep it lit up and the platform was not boarded/walled up like other ones in the system. I think it still has exits as well.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the platform isn't boarded up, but the whole thing is gated up and locked, you can't "technically" access it...

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and last time i was there, it wasn't lit, it was completely dark

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Underwater Jesus: I DIED FOR YOUR FINS!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chernobyl Diaries. Let us never speak of that abomination of a movie ever again.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im sorry..... I failed you imgur!!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish someone had said that was the site of Chernobyl, because I feel like a lot of people would not recognize it by the city name...

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The holland island house fell a few years ago. There is still a graveyard and whats left of a baseball diamond.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

damn...that place gave me the chills in a good way! i wanted to see it :/

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live right across the river from it. I've been scared to pull up to it because the water is so shallow and my boat might get stuck.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh man! that house looks/looked like it had so much history! was it the only house left before it fell?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was a whole fishing village. I will get a picture of the town.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A few of these look like great places to run into Triangle Head.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hear, that at night you can hear a little girl crying in it!

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Brace yourself, lonely men are typing.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

A Google search of the Ryugyong Hotel shows that that image is old/severely shopped

12 years ago | Likes 417 Dislikes 7

It's a Nicolas Moulin photograph. He took a picture of the Ryugyong hotel, and photoshopped it onto LA mountains (I think)

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was about to say. That shit is in the capital.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try extremely. The Ryugyong Hotel is in the middle of Pyongyang, and not built into a frickin mountain...

12 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 1

I googled a few of them and I would have to say most if not all are somewhat photo-shopped. Good call x7guy

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry I mean xr7guy

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unsuprising, North Korea attempts to shop it out of every photo of downtown Pyonyang. I have no idea why OP put it on a mountain, though.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i was thinking of calling shenanigans about this, pretty sure it's in central Pyongyang and is pretty much complete after 20ish years.

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

By "complete" you mean the upper floors are finished while most of the middle is still more or less under construction, permanently.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I thought N. Korea had started to finally finish the building after at least a decade of not having the money

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They haven't had the money since the project started. It's used to draw tourists.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The pic is of the concrete skeleton of the hotel.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And I'm pretty sure it was shopped into the middle of nowhere

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nope, that was when it was first being built.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its the Sierra Madre Hotel & Casino.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, no. The photo is pre-2008, prior to the resumption of construction in 2008, the actual building began in 1987.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The building is in the middle of Pyongyang, not built into the side of a mountain. It's still photoshopped.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buts its in the middle of the city

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

North Korea, falsify information?

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Impossible.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be nice to have a short explanation with each picture about why they were abandoned.

12 years ago | Likes 1601 Dislikes 18

Check out this link, has quite a bit of info on some of these plus others: http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/02/abandoned-places.html

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You've probably heard of Pripyat.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Aliens.jpg

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus... some of these places aren't as abandoned as OC would have you believe.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

City Hall station - NYC: contemporary trains are much longer than the platform can fit, so they use the larger, modern station just north.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

do you even Google mate?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure I do, Mate!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Marylander: Holland Island has been sinking beneath Chesapeake Bay for the last 100 years or so, partly from subsidence, partly (1/2)

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

from erosion. That house in the picture finally collapsed a few years ago, I think.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I bet I can tell you why the christ of the abyss was abandoned.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pic 1 - they got all the diamonds they could by surface mining, had to switch to underground mining.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Villa Epecuén, Argentina was flooded for almost 20 years. A dam broke in 1985.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pripyat was abandoned because a horde of invisible velociraptors overran the city. They still roam the empty streets to this day.

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

"The accident."

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, at least Christ Of The Abyss is pretty self explanatory.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nigga look at some of those pictures. ain't even gotta ask, i know that hotel is harboring some serious shit.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Err day I'm googlin'

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The City of Pripyat is near Chernobyl, the place with radioactive death

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Fun Fact: The Fukushima plant is estimated to be more than 10 times worse than the Chernobyl meltdown. Airborn particles and radiated water.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But, you know, my cock can be estimated at ten times the size of the empire state building.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chernobyl sent 8 tons of radioactive fuel sailing into the night sky. Fukushima wasn't even close to that bad.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The Japanese island was a coal mining town, and the coal ran out.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You do know there is thing ca

allied the internet that cames with search engines. You are lazy

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Spree Park was closed, because it was bancrupt. Director Norbert Witte later tried to smuggle 368lb of cocaine from peru to germany and 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Me too! I was born in Berlin Pankow!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Kreuzberg, now living in Neukölln :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Ryugyong Hotel - Isn't Abandoned. City Hall Station - Probably different track widths, also low demand, why bother to maintain.

12 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

City Hall Station closed due to security concerns.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

City Hall Station I think was closed because the platform was too short...

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The one in the Chesapeake bay is because of a complete lack of conservation efforts. Also look up Tangier and Smith islands.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/2) it's rather sad, actually. They're some of the most historic places in Maryland and they're being destroyed.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zombies, All of them

12 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

I could see a crack-team of soldiers in jingly-jangly gear running awkwardly through all of these. :D Except the underwater one. :3

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ryugyong Hotel was "abandoned" because economic crisis in 1992 --> Wiki

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

its N. Korea.. they are in a perpetual economic crisis ;)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

because there is no people

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you give a mouse a cookie

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm no expert but Christ of the Abyss- San Fruttuoso, Italy might have been due to flooding.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

20 cool abandoned nopes

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would personally love to know why all these people are abandoning castles...like...give me a heads up because I'll move in

12 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

which was more fashionable. Many castles are dark & dingy (think small windows to keep arrows out), often damp, and very expensive to heat.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lot of castle owners were forcibly evicted by regime change, & their homes left to ruin, many were dumped when owner built palatial house

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

there's a lot of reasons, wars, political change, expensive upkeep, the chance to move into a warmer more luxurious/fashionable building...

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know I was mostly joking I figured there were tons of political/financial reasons I just want a castle

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

so say we all, VeronicaCorningstone if that is your real name *narrows eyes*. So say we all.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Bulgarian Building. No longer socialist, government cut the funding. Christ of the Abyss. It's underwater, go figure.

12 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 3

But WHY is it underwater ;o

12 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The artist decided to do he thought it would be cool and put it near the place of the first Italian SCUBA related death.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The statue was actually placed there on purpose in 1954. It was even removed in 2003, restored, and put back in place in 2004. Go Wikipedia.
