First coat of paint, I didn't get a shot of the case before I went straight to painting. It's a Rosewill Tyrfing, it was inexpensive.

I took my daughter to the hardware store and had her pick out colors for pc build I was "doing for a customer" and these are the colors she chose. This picture shows the coats of primer over the masked off pink stripe.

I painted the inside of the case pink in multiple coats, then taped off the vents at the top and bottom to paint them blue.

Finished bare chassis, I was quite pleased with myself.

Front bezel, please ignore the mess of a garage. I'm still trying to get reorganized after the first year of a charity event I founded.

Front panel assembled onto the chassis.

The colors DUKE, THE COLORS!

Lynnfield i5 overclocked to 3.7 with a corsair h100, 16gb of Ram, and a gtx 770.

Case with the side off.

120gb Samsung ego.

Ready for the reveal. I built this pc for my Daughter's 5th birthday a few weeks back. She absolutely loves it. Being an IT guy I couldn't resist getting her started on the PC experience.

It is my cakeday, but don't upvote for cake, upvote if you like the build.

Be good to one another.

EDIT

WOW FP, I really didn't expect this to go anywhere. Thanks! I'll post my setup sometime in the next week or so. I have some cleaning up to do and a GPU to install.

Since I reached FP here is a gift...http://imgur.com/gallery/N0zuu

Console guy here. Fuck me gently with a chainsaw. Excellent choice in colours. That was the extent of my PC understanding.

Kowabunga Dad.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My dad is in IT and he never gave me a sweet fucking computer. *cries*

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh I know some fellow IT workers who go home to a tech dead zone, and they won't let their kids have it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, our house certainly isn't a tech dead zone. I shouldn't be crying because he gave me a job I guess.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's the spirit!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow, not even one "it's me ur child" comment. I'm impressed.

Epic Job! Best dad ever!

What does a 5 year old need 16GB of RAM for?

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Because I had it laying around and what else would I do with it?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Can I be your daughter?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

OK. What. 5 Years old? .. I had my first PC with 15. To play Sims 1.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pssh, I built my first rig back in '96 when I was 8... played Diablo and Starcraft/Brood Wars a fair bit on it! XD

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dad had a computer for us to use around that time as well, plus a spare. We had some good LAN games going.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm currently borrowing a 770. it's actually not that bad. 90 fps in overwatch on high settings

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*looks at settings menu seeing lows and mediums* uhhhhh

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I can run Fallout4 for example with ultra settings with no problems at all, on OW I have stable 150fps too. 770 is still fine.

POPSICLE! Woah ho!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thank you

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

An excellent gift, imo~ That said, do be careful about involving her in her own gifts the way you did with the colors. (1/N)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The way I found out about Santa was that my parents put presents in boxes I recognized.(2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh it was simply a 1 time item to get a feel on her colors.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bit of overkill to run Paint...but ok

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I used components I had on hand, from my previous build.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

There was a Dora the Explorer game my girl loved about the age of 5. Music and stuff, probably dirt cheap

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll definately look into it, Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just googled..there are dozens...i think it was fairytale..but no certain

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We signed ours up with ABCMouse.com and I locked it down so she can't get to most of the web.

.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, I had unrestricted internet access as a 9 y/o and gave the computer malware while trying to figure out what sex was. Fun times.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I got a terrible virus looking for porn once as a kid. Not only did I eventually manage to cure it, but I learnt a LOT about security.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

D-did it work? Did you find it?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Legend says he's still searching to this day....

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

interesting, I'll check it out. Thanks.

+1 for including a paper clip CD emergency ejector (in the last pic)

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

I used mine to pick food out of my broken tooth

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only the finest of tools!

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I fix computers and printers for a living. No joke, I don't go anywhere without a paperclip.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually have a special paperclip I soldered it together to form a handle and heat shrink wrapped the handle. lol I was bored one day.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A great acronym for it is ODDET (Optical Disc Drive Extraction Tool). I learned that from my Computer Support instructor.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People still use cd drives?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes, for those rare moments when you get a book that comes with a PDF on CD, or when your prof requires you to turn in your project on CD.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're useful if you don't have a thumb-drive to do OS installs.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heck, I keep a dozen repair discs available. It's way cheaper unless you set it up as a multi-boot USB drive.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cool, but what in the hell does a 5 year old need a computer for? Lol.

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 6

Hardcore black men gangbanging porn

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Gotta start early to become PC Master race.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I totally agree, a 5yr old should be outside or using their imaginations, not stuck in front of a computer

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My kids' school started them on a reading and maths computer program from their first year.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The kids use computers in some nurseries now.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My son was using a PC at 4. 5 and a half now and he is pretty good on a computer.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My dad and I played computer games together for as long as I can remember. It's a great thing to bond over

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The earlier you start, the more natural it becomes (see violinists). That said I'd watch the blue light exposure.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

My mom and I started learning to upgrade the family's Win-95 machine when I was around that age. Never too early to start learning.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I can understand them having a computer, but a full on quality gaming desktop? What do they need that for, club penguin?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shhh... OP

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was using MS DOS to a limited extent when I was five. My dad showed me the directory for a few fame demos, so I was able to exit windows>

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

When I was 5, all I had was a dos prompt and a few 5 1/4" and 3.5" floppies with games on them.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

>and find the games in DOS at that age. He was a computer geek too; just depends what you show your kids at what age.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Look at the difference in comp skills between 20 somethings and their parents. And that's from just getting PC at age 10 at the earliest

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Different question: why does a 5yo need a rig with 16gigs of RAM and an OC'ed processor?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Jealous?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah.. I was wondering about that.. And only a 130gb hdd? Bit odd

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm 27 and I'm pretty sure I'd started using a PC right around 93/94.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Same here, but at that time I was mostly playing with MS Paint. Anyway, 5yo, really? Buy her a dog and make go outside!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. My uncle worked for Microsoft so we got deals on software. I loved the Magic School Bus games.
