It'll be weird when/if androids replace robots. They may look identical, but one would have a... soul? I guess?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't like this analogy, a good retort would be "but so are you"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This movie is actually quite good. CAn be a bit dull depending on what you like though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember hearing about this and thinking someone was making Penny-Arcade's 'Automata' into a series.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn't the robot's head looks borrowed from that as well?

Technically we are meat machines.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

technically, more like bags of mostly water.

And our brains are just complex super computers.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, some are less complex than others...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

self healing, semi self replicating machines; to me that's the largest difference with even the most advanced robots of the next decades

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hands down one of the best films I've ever seen

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I hated Ex Machina and thought this film was way better.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Seriously no offense meant, but watch more movies then. It was okay at best.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It was a solid movie. Not spectacular, but much to hate about it either. Which is more than I can say for a lot of other "good" movies.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair it was produced very well, and had a good story with a lot to read into and think about. And of course, personal opinion.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 13

but do they feel...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol. sure thing, simpleton

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The goal is for humans to slowly merge with them so that we share experiences and avoid conflict.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The goal is, not to play creator and make sentient beings. At least, not in the state we human beings are in at the moment..

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Please tell me you mean this in the context of the movie, because true AI is not possible with our current technology.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why not?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not an expert by any means, but at this point it's all code and programming. We won't have anything like Jarvis anytime soon.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. But it's not that far a stretch that 100s of years from now there may be robots that think and feel just as humans do.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is a difference between sentience and just "thinking", because thinking doesn't imply sentience. Not all of them were sentient

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

What are we but computers made of meat?

Good movie

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ok, I'll be that guy: it's a bad movie. Some ideas are good, but the realization is horrible. Ex-machina is way better for conscious robots.

9 years ago | Likes 1129 Dislikes 33

Yeah, lots of potential, and then it just ends up being dull.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So is Westworld :D

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Penguin Ex-Machina.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't really agree; I like it, but I also like that you made a good point succinctly and with tact +1

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

Apples and oranges. Different movies using different methods to deal with different themes and issue.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

eh, I thought machina was pretty shit too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thanks. Was about to look it up. Wish there was a movie that encorperated robots instead of killing them, after some time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. This was one of the few movies I did not favorite and forget. I was whelmed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I really wanted to like it. The bad guy's line, "I just can't see it that way" has become an inside joke between my bf and I.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ex Machina wasn't that good either.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

this did come out before ex machina, its a decent movie, antonio bandares did well graphics r quite good too 1/2 budget of ex-machina

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What made ex-machina better is the plot. They really nailed the science also. That's what I miss in Automata. Too many cliches for me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

they might have nailed the science, but the plot was just "stick all the previous AI stuff in a blender, then splash it onto the screen."

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ex-machina had terrible pacing, a shitty script and bad acting. The only good thing was the idea and the SFX.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is basically the only good bit, hence the incessant reposting. Swear I've seen it here like 10 times in the last year.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The world and the bot evolution in this movie are better in my opinion, reminded me of blade runner at first.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hm. Haven't seen that one

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bitch please. Ex-machina was made for nerds to wank off. Automata was the real deal.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Totally agree, I was excited for it, but very disappointed in it...pretty slow moving movie

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought ex machina was so stupid. Loner steals science project he's become fond of fucking...not really a protagonist haha.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Jesus Christ... Your opinion.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

i prefered the robots in automata, they're puppets so have a realness and vulnerability the perky breasted CGI wank-bots of Ex-machina lack

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

after I finished watching Ex-machina it felt like a very specific genre of porn

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Exmachina sucked

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And I will be 'that other guy'. What movie is this from?

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Im pretty sure its called Automata

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

NOTE TO CORTEX: Infiltration: successful...awaiting further commands

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

aw dangit bot, how many times we gotta program the difference between "inside voice" and "outside voice" into ya?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ill be that goil- thought this movie was great! Loved Ex Machina too and Chappy!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno. Seemed more like the plot hinged on really stupid people instead of really smart robots. Guy builds AI, has no security and drunk.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 3

I didn't like that in the end, it seemed like the robot never felt compassion or human emotion, it just used them as concepts to escape.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Survive. What concepts wouldn't you realize to survive?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After victory was obtained, the robot showed no sorrow for the murder, the death of the other robot, or the dude she trapped. (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Without the need to show emotion to survive, the robot showed none, and finally proved it was not as human as we wanted to believe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The movie had that pretentious feel where the writer tries to value his simplistic thoughts by voicing them through a fictional genius.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Ex machina is unnecesarily slow

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

You are un necessarily pleb

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

Favorited to watch later then saw your comment and unfavorited. So... Thanks?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is beautiful to look, and its quite solid, but its not Ex-Machina, I still recommend it, not all movies have to be masterpieces.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I watched it with no expectations and enjoyed it. It was solidly in the same category as all the other conscious robot movies.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Watch it with low expectations, when you're bored, or drunk, or both.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well he was a badass muthafuckin robot gangsta

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chappie sucked. Too many different stories crammed into one, with none being particularly good. Cool idea, poor execution.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Plus just Die Antwoord thrown in there randomly. Their music is fine, but it made the whole film feel like a bizarre DA music video.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i have to disagree. i was able to finish Automata, but not Ex-machina. yes Ex was much prettier, but half way through i was still waiting >>

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 6

agreed, they haven't developed the idea into a good script. seems like they were done with the SFX before the story was done

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

i mean.. they -had- a plot. and i'm sure that if you haven't seen more than 1 or 2 AI-based movies before it would all seem very new.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for -anything- i hadn't already seen done better years ago. "remember not to do the thing!" "you bet! but first i'mma do the thing."

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

...but you haven't seen the whole thing.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

He's right, it's pretty predictable. I was surprised it did so well by the critics.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yea.. i got tired of waiting for anything to happen, so i went and read the plot synopsis. "oh god, really? come on."

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm just pointing out that you can't really make a valid review if a movie you haven't actually seen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haven't watched automata but machina was one of the worst movies for me. So slow. Nothing happens. Completely boring.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Exactly that

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

that too. "if i'd been watching something else, we'd have had a couple chase scenes, gunfights, and STILL covered everything this did."

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Some directors just don't get that when you take action out of a film, you actually have to put something in its place.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Considering how boring it was, i expected it to at least be deep or contemplative on the natures of AI, intelligence or humanity. Nope.

Our theater randomly cut into another ad with what looked like corrupted video until the logo appeared. Pretty cool way to do it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just watched the new trailer. I'm cautiously hopeful that it won't suck balls. There's good and bad stuff in it. I hope it'll turn out good

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like a merging of multiple storylines and a potential for abandoning some characters all together. I have no hope for it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think it will be good just because it'd a movie based on a anime. Casting and everything else is fine.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You people don't seem to realise there's a huge problem in Hollywood and them snubbing Asian actors. They should have found a japanese woman

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I felt the same. But they are only referring her to Major & in the manga she's always had white features, so I could manage w/ their casting

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How hard would it have been to find an actual American to voice Batou in the original Japanese VO of the movie?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If i remember right, the creator said once said in an interview if there was a live action version he would like Steven Seagul to play Batou

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Henry Rollins could've made a great Batou.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They already did. Can't you see they want the blockbuster audience?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Oh no! A movie that sets out to make money! Those bastards!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not pursuing the blockbuster audience doesn't mean not having financial goals in mind. It's hard to have a high budget film that takes risks

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So naturally, they'd rather have a generic movie than no movie at all, I understand. But at least they did nail the cinematography...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

from what little the trailers imply, it looks like it might be just a re-do on the original manga. unless there's new trailers since the 6?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They released a new trailer today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4VmJcZR0Yg

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

very sweet. reboot of the first anime movie, then, with some significant backstory changes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The general consensus seems that they picked different story parts from the movies and shows, while also replicating some scenes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be honest, I'm quite grumpy it's getting so much hate.. it can be good. Buh

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

With the new trailer, I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't get all the hate either. Just be happy there is another version you might enjoy!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's mostly because a) it's a remake b) ScarJo as the Major instead of an Asian. Lots of anime purists and SJWs up in arms

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

You don't have to be a SJW to want an accurate movie interpretation

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

no, but there are reasons other than racism why GitS is whitewashed. There are better avenues to address whitewashing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too many people complaining about race, they forgot what setting GitS takes place in, or more likely they never knew to begin with.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I think their concerns are valid, but GitS was the wrong hill to die on because of the story and the way movie production works

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ghost in the Shell. I'd say it's a good looking trailer, but as far as explaining what the plot is to newcomers, it's absolute shit.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ghost in the shell, its an anime, one of the best out there. It inspired the matrix.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0
