When I was 15, I discovered writers like Jack Kerouac and Hunter S. Thompson, and I got this crazy idea that I wanted to be an author someday. As many do, I graduated from high school, went to college, had some adventures (and some kids), and I put that dream on the shelf. Last year, I finally sat down to start writing about some of the more interesting things I've seen, and I self-published my first book. (It probably would have been finished 6 months earlier if I didn't end up tumbling down the Imgur rabbit hole every time I sat down to write). Self-publishing was a fun, fulfilling experience, but today, everything changed...
This morning, I got an email from HarperCollins (a MASSIVE, global publishing company), saying that they've seen my writing, and they want to be involved with whatever I'm going to work on next! We have a call tomorrow morning to discuss the details of the deal, and while I don't know how this will all play out, I'm just blown away that this dream I've had for 15 years is finally becoming a reality!
It's time to celebrate. UPVOTES FOR EVERYONE!

Wow congrats. I've written 5 books and have tried to go the publisher route. Didn't have faith in self publishing. You've just inspired me!
RetirementNoirATaleOfPruneJuiceAndMurder
Good luck! As someone who's also on that path I am very jealous!

When you get rich and famous think back to your time spent in usersub and remember this +1 I'm giving you. I hope it becomes valuable.
Welcome2Nightvale
He's kinda already famous because he was the frontman of a metal band haha

Good luck future Kerouac. Time to buy a shitty car and drive across the country.
TheBluePowerRanger
Ooh, I did that for 10 years straight. Hence the "had some adventures" bit
fuzzymcbutterball

@op Your endeavor is to follow in the footsteps of the good doctor? You need mescaline. Tons of it.
ScalesClawsAndFuzzyPaws
You know, it's really good you took all of the knowledge from defeating Rita and putting it to something positive! Congrats!
Hahandfuckyou
It's almost sitcom material... Blue Power Ranger retires and writes christian fiction novels.
WhiteTrashTiger
But did you GRADUATE from college? Hahahahaha Hahaha Ha Ha
TheBluePowerRanger
Nooooope. Boy, I got kicked out of, not one, but TWO different colleges! Turns out, HarperCollins doesn't care. Hahahaha
SheDevilinaSnuggie
As a librarian: make friends with librarians. Give them copies - we will sell the shit out of your book, if we like it.
TheBluePowerRanger
Ok, we're friends now. There's nothing you can do to stop my friendship.

Clings on madly like kittens and cardigans.

Well, if you like Hunter S. Thompson; all you have to do is take fucktons of drugs and masturbate over a typewriter.
BenderIsGreatBENDERBENDERBENDER
So excited for you, I am about to embark on writing myself. Makes me happy to see someone living the dream!

Is it a Christian Inspired book per chance? Isn't that what Harper Collins typically publishes?
Lilithet
they publish everything.
SheDevilinaSnuggie
They publish all genres but this - from the Amazon link is Christian fiction.
TheBluePowerRanger
They publish everything, but I am a Christian, so that theme is heavy in the book--along with topics like metal concerts and French hookers.
TheBluePowerRanger
For those interested, the book I self-published is called "Lovely Things in Ugly Places." While you can buy it from most online/kindle (1/2

And?
Hahandfuckyou
I guess that's as far as I ever get with those. Bully to you if that's what you're into.

Kerouac is my favorite!
TheBluePowerRanger
He's up there for me. My all-time favorite writer is Khalil Gibran. Reading his book The Prophet was a life-defining moment for me.
citizenofhell
I'll check it out! On The Road changed my life. Gave me a passion for traveling. I'm now a flight attendant and get paid to travel ????
TheBluePowerRanger
That's so awesome! I once read On The Road while hitch-hiking across the country, then traded my copy to a guy on Venice Beach, selling 1/2
TheBluePowerRanger
A book he had written called "The Little White Trip." Adventures are good.
citizenofhell
Also, totally just creeped. You're in For Today? That's pretty damn rad.
TheBluePowerRanger
I was! Now I'm just a heavily tattooed guy, creeping out white people in Whole Foods.
citizenofhell
I'm a 27 yr old moderately tattooed female and I can't keep track of the dirty looks and the "you're too pretty to have tattoos" comments
TheBluePowerRanger
Hahaha. No one has ever told me I'm too pretty for them. They just tell their kids not to stare, and ask me if they hurt! Haha
