Who banned them?

Someone should take a real close look at the person who banned Winnie the Pooh for "dubious sexuality." They're hiding something.

I wish they would tell us who said the quotes so we can have a trial in the court of public opinion.

"Captain Underpants" has been challenged pretty much every year since it came out. It's incredibly beloved, just imagine it being gone.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a professional librarian I'll give you an upvote!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Chatterley%27s_Lover - Clint Eastwood's family name probably comes from where the book was set.

I can see your reflection Op that's a sneaky selfie.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whatt! Lion the which and the wordrobe is seriously banned?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some thing something Hitler did it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If theyre banned, why are they in the library

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They're not actually banned now, but they've been challenged, meaning someone WANTS them banned. This is about awareness, what COULD be.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's where our free speech is headed.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, book bannings have always been a thing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was expecting like, Mein Kampf and The Turner Diaries.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mostly these are parents too lazy to educate their kids privately, so they object to the way the public school does it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck anyone who bans books.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

What about the anarchist cookbook?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I don't see mein kampf

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Loaned out to Trump?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They needed that space for the bible.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mississippi ruled it a good and insightful read. Therefore it wasn't banned.

I have sincere doubts that "not politically correct" was the reason for the ban on LW&W

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

That was a very good series. Am continually dissappointed that the movies never start with the first book though...

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

That's probs because LW&W was the first book in the series, not to mention more well known. Magician's Nephew came much later as a prequel.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Magician's Nephew was my shit. One of the best books I've ever read.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Usually more the religious undertones.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I think you mean blatantly obvious overtones

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I mean sure, but it's a kid's book. I never got the religious stuff in it as a kid cause I knew nothing about the bible.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From the thumbnail I thought 'Watermelon!'

9 years ago | Likes 289 Dislikes 0

You saw fried chicken?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

I thought weird glory hole

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I may be pretty fucked up but I still think it is...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THIS IS EDUCATIONAL!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They got books that they can't read - BUT I GOT WATERMELON TO TEACH ME ALL I NEED

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No wonder the bible is the most stolen book in the U.S.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The bible is challenged so often because it's an obvious counter-move when religious moralists try to ban other books.

That strikes me as extraordinarily unlikely and I can't find a source to substantiate it. All I can find it "most stolen book."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's also the most-printed book ever. And best-selling. And most widely distributed. So it's really no surprise...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The gideons couldn't give me a copy.

What's the difference to those people

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is this for real? i mean - are these books truly banned in public libraries? i can't even see these books being banned in school libraries.

9 years ago | Likes 230 Dislikes 16

Not really in public libraries (in the US), but books like this are occasionally banned in public school libraries.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure it's a statement.

9 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 2

At one point or another these books were challenged/banned in a school/library. Read more at www.ala.org/bbooks/about

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I picked the most extreme case listed and discovered that a town in Poland banned Pooh for exactly his "dubious sexuality" (see reply) ①

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Article also mentions Pooh being banned in Russia because of a random image of Pooh with a swastika ③

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When I went to highschool Harry Potter got banned in our library for all of a week before kids brought the books to school to share...but>

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> Im like 90% sure it was the librarians under handed way of getting kids to read more because like it spiked how many people were reading.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Banned Book Week is coming up, starts sept 27. Lots of libraries are trying to raise awareness about censorship around the world

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

ok ... this makes far more sense to me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

These books actually were banned/challenged at one point.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, there is more rape, murder, and incest in the bible than in Game of Thrones.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And neither should be banned.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But they both should stand in the Fantasy section.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

E D G E

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they once banned Where's Waldo, so i'm pretty sure they'll ban anything

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's because two pages in the original printing had unseen but implied female toplessness. Not very good for a kid book.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah and the image was smaller than a damn dime that's like banning The Rescuers because it had porn hidden in a window in one frame

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, Disney DID issue a recall of that film's on-shelf copies and reprinted the film with those frames absent.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you not read the writing in the first pic clearly showing this was making a statement about a few ruining things for all?

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2

clear as mud.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Crystal as mud.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Banned book lists are generally quite local. Which means there are so many lists that if grab any classic, you'll find it banned somewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

*In the US

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The US does not have a monopoly on banning books.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're right. But if you just look at democracies, there won't be many to find. Never heard of banned books in West European schools

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. They banned Harry potter at my high school library a few years ago.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What was their reason for banning it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paganism

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Witchcraft/magic, I think....its a small conservative town. Lol and now to think of it, I think that happened after our super religious 1/2
