This is just what they do when hunting/fishing. It would've reached shore (47 sec mark it's obvious) in a few moments if they didn't chase it in the wrong direction.

I don’t know what is more beautiful, seeing the eagle fly free, or the angels who saved him.

Congratulations, you are being rescued. Please do not resist

Would love to know the what, why & how but.... it's healthy & free. That's enough.

I know eagles have resting bitch face, but I love how she looks *so* irritated with the whole situation. Bald eagles can swim, by the way; just being in the water doesn’t necessarily mean they’re injured. This one apparently was, and I’m glad these humans were there for her.

Do they have large talons

Fine, I'll be your baby for now.

Old baldy making it back home in one piece.

I am so jealous of that experience, so amazing. I am fascinated by large birds of prey.

He's not bald

And then a bunny swooped down and flew off with the eagle.

I had to scroll too far to find this

"Thanks big monkeys, see ya!"

Don't rescue eagles in the water. They routinely swim as part of their hunting strategy. Very often they'll latch onto a big fish they can't carry out of the water. So they swim to shore while still holding onto it. Don't interfere with a bald eagle that appears to be drowning. It knows what it's doing.

That poor eagle is going to have some weird memories that all don't line up. "What was that place? It was... unnatural."

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're much larger than I thought!

Great video! Shitty music. But we must appease the algorithm. All hail the algorithm.

Magnificent

I wish it said what was wrong with the bird; fractured wing? Just exhaustion?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's most likely that it fell into the water and couldn't get back out again. Some birds of prey can take off from the water again, but even for them, their feathers can quickly get waterlogged. Ospreys and Bald Eagles both do a lot of fishing, and can sometimes fall into the water and can't get back out again. They can "swim" with their wings, but if they're out in the middle of a lake they'll become exhausted quickly. It's not uncommon to see.

A quick google image search for "eagle stuck in water" will give you a ton of similar examples, if you're curious!

"Could you fucking not?"

Lol, you’re amazingly lucky that the eagle was exhausted. Otherwise, those talons would have shredded you, the beak would have blinded you. ALWAYS control the feet and keep the face away from your face. Hood the bird so it can’t see. Very lucky group of well meaning people.

Does it have large talons

Once saw an eagle floating on the water while fishing. We offered it a paddle off the edge of our boat. It dried off for 15mins then flew away. We were scared the whole time lol

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Chickens will do the same.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Fuck, can they run...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're absolutely correct. Obviously these people were not prepared but then again who goes canoeing and expects to have to rescue a raptor like that? Even knowing that I still chuckled seeing the gloves they had on while handling it.

There is a point in this video that if the bald eagle readies it's talons. You could almost hear his thoughts:

I have heard that eagles are strong enough to break human arm bones with their talons. These people are SO lucky! I'm glad everyone made it out safe and sound.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Idk much about boats, but if that was an inflatable raft the talons could've shredded it as well. Then they'd all be stuck in what I'm assuming is cold water based on their clothing.

I carried an adult eagle home in my mouth when I was six. Neither of us bit one another.

hahahaha, this is my favourite comment in days

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

I think you bit the eagle a little

I was an oral prodigy at that age.

Former professional photographer here from British Columbia who's observed Eagles in nature a lot. They swim extremely well because occasionally they will have to get out of the water because the fish they caught pulls them into the water. I once saw one doing the breaststroke your Horseshoe Bay in house sound in rough water and all it did when it got to the show was jump up on the Rock Shake itself off and then start flying away

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They do swim well, yeah, but this bird seemed too water logged to get back up

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, it happens a lot

Currently I live in Squamish the so called Eagle capital of the world. I've never heard of one being found drowned. Usually when they're dead it's quite often as a result of ingestion of lead pellets from carrion or some other thing like that. Irregularly got tangled up in fishing line here as well.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do you suppose this eagle didn't fly away?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They do get waterlogged, their feathers are oily to be water resistant but not waterproof. There's a ton of vids and pics online of rescued eagles and ospreys both--they get into this situation a lot

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(Do a google of "eagle rescued from water" for a ton of nice people helping them out)
