Had to cheat with using fabric and glued ice creams, then spray painted.
working Lab with 3x 2x4 light boxes. 1 is under the table in the back corner. other 2 are in the chasis and accessed by the cargo flap doors.

The fabric part isn't really cheating. Legit Lego sets really did come with a fabric accessory that you would thread through rods/sticks through pre-sewn loops.
