Daily reminder to wear a helmet

Apr 22, 2017 1:34 PM

Friendly and daily reminder to always wear a full faced helmet when riding a motorcycle and to dress for the slide, not for the ride. Don't risk your life because you think it won't happen to you. We're only as safe as the worst driver out there. Be safe, not sorry.

Check that you're not using data.

FP edit: Send pictures of damaged helmets that I can use for future days

Friendly because asphalt is usually not so at 60mph

As someone who's worked in an A&E (UK ER room), "dress for the slide not for the ride" is the best advice I've ever heard. Glad you're ok

That should buff right out

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Dude, you go through a lot of helmets. Maybe biking is just not for you

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And wear a full-face one with jaw protection! Something like 12% of head injuries hit the jaw and so many people wear open-face helmets.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, was actually using data. OP being the real MVP here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a MC rider AND I had my wifi turned off. Thank you!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that was downright helpful all around.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i told my buddy id teach him to ride under the circumstance he got a legitimate full face, preferrably DOT AND SNELL certified.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hate the states that don't require helmets. Always made me nervous when I ride.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That guy probably stopped riding

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You ran over a Lego, didn't you?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Might have hit a bunch of Logos.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too bad, if it had been Pathos he might have been able to power through.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the reminder. I have unlimited data. Also, this post is true. Stay safe.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for some insane reason, helmets are not legally required for motorcyclists in colorado. but splitting lanes is illegal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I keep the carbon fiber knuckle gloves that saved my fingers in a slide as a reminder. Gear up. Every time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you have no data left so you have to use wifi

That's been sanded away, not in an accident.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A sander accident.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

>:(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not if you go down, but when you go down. And personally I'd rather sweat in leathers than bleed in gauze.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sweat in leather than bleed in gauze. I like that saying, mind if I use that for an upcoming day? I'll credit you of course

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No problem :) thanks for asking.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ATGATT

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amen. I friend of mine was riding on the back of her boyfriend's bike when he hit sand. Life flight, etc. we were terrified for her.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the reminder. My internet was unplugged. Ride safe!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try not falling off your bike.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you kindly, another upvote for you.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and one to you, good sir

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what about half helmets

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is so important. I would like to add that even if you don't die, traumatic brain injuries are fucking terrible and can fuck up 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Families because of severe personality changes, loss of impulse control, aggression, etc. It seriously ruins lives, so wear a fuckinghelmet

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I've worked with kids who have TBIs. It's a fucking roller coaster.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wait, there's wifi on my motorcycle now? Sweet.

9 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 3

Don't do imgur while you drive

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That way you can watch Netflix while you ride.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Netflix and slide

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My buddy wired a charger and a mount on his bike so he can use GPS while riding.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I did that this weekend. If your phone supports it, use an induction charger to help regulate and voltage spikes from the battery

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

any*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only as safe as the worst driver? We're utterly fucked then

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well that´s the point

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I don't ride... I trust myself, but not other people

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

exactly.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Dress for the slide, not the ride"

9 years ago | Likes 253 Dislikes 4

"Check that you're not using data" best advice tbh

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Couldn't be more right. Losing meat hurts

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Have a missing patch of leather instead of elbow from being put down on the interstate by a hit and run pos...if it's 115° the jacket goes

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

"Skate fast..."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Today I saw someone riding a motorcycle and they had a helmet strapped to the rear seat instead of wearing it...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guy I work with always talks trash about "squids" yet wears shorts and the quarter-helmet skull cap when he rides.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did you inform him he is one? Lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helmets are also one time use, never re-use a helmet that has been involved in an accident before, effectiveness is vastly reduced otherwise

9 years ago | Likes 273 Dislikes 0

And car seats.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should, but the death certificate will still read "Blunt force injuries to extremities and abdomen".

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Never buy used helmets. What. so. ever.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Holds for bicycle helmets, too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never reuse a helmet that has fallen from any height higher than your waist is actually what DOT recommends.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man I need to replace my Caberg pretty badly 7 years old, its been dropped, kicked, slid set on fire etc.I can't imagine its in the best nick.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PS: Don't leave your helmet resting against your exhaust silencer :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Genuine question on UK racing licence test: If you damage your crash helmet, should you A) replace it, or B) place a sticker over the crack

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Obviously C) drill holes in it so that air can pass through and keep your head cool.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

or cut a channel so it doesnt mash your mohawk.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's right kids. Can't reuse a helmet like you do a condom

9 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 2

Yea you're right! you can't wash the damage off.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably why there's kid...

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

And probably there's more than one

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh honey...

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Also, just like condoms, it's safer if you wear two at the same time.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sure...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're compromised if dropped, too.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

Yep, I am super careful every time I put mine down

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's probably fine. Snell says so

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

This isn't a thing.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

if you say so. your melon, not mine.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband works at a motorcycle place and if the helmet is dropped they can't sell it I think.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

It's against the law that's why

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Makes sense, who knows what a simple drop could do to the interior.
